uZard Web Browser For BlackBerry Shows Some Promise

As BlackBerry users, the choices for browsers on our devices really are not that broad. Sure we have Opera Mini, we have Bolt and we have the built in BlackBerry browser. We could have had Skyfire but they suffered from failure to launch syndrom and have since moved on. While we know Webkit is in the works for our beloved devices we still have no indication as to when that may actually arrive. Many folks enjoy the options that are available and others simply just are looking for more.

As one of our forums moderators, Shao128 pointed out. We seemed to of have passed over another option. uZard is seemingly a beta browser for BlackBerry that offers a lot according to their website. Fast, desktop like experience with uploads and downloads of files included in the feature set. As well as on device conversion of flash videos. Having only tested it for a little while on my 9700 I can say it shows some promise but it may not meet the needs of all users. But, that's not to say it shouldn't be considered. Currently the site indicates it's available for the BlackBerry Bold 9000 but it does indeed run on other devices. Download, install and let us know what you think. It appears to have some issues on Storm devices so please, keep that in mind.

Bolt Browser 2.0 Arriving Tomorrow; Bringing Tabbed Browsing To BlackBerry

*UPDATE - The link for BOLT ver. 2.0 is now available, download here*

Kevin is currently in Las Vegas attending CTIA 2010 and sent us all off this little piece of information from the Showstoppers event there. What you see above in the pic is an early glimpse of what is to be BOLT 2.0. Releasing early tomorrow the new BOLT browser has many other upgrades coming with it aside from just tabbed browsing. Some new features have been added and plenty of upgrades have happened server side to enhance the browsing experience for users.

“Each new version of BOLT becomes more exciting to announce,” said Anna Magliocco-Chagnon, president and CEO of Bitstream.  “We are closely listening to our end-users through our user forum, our Twitter and Facebook pages, and their comments on blog posts and articles, and they are guiding our development roadmap in important ways.  It is this close relationship we are building with our users to which we attribute our stunning growth. BOLT added 1 million new users in the last five weeks alone.”

BOLT has upped the ante here for those looking for a better browsing experience on the BlackBerry platform. As most users are awaiting the webkit browser from Research In Motion, BOLT is offering that experience in one way or another right now. I certainly cannot wait to see how this latest version looks. Hit the jump for the full list of additional features added to version 2.0 of BOLT. We'll let you all know tomorrow when the 2.0 version goes live.

Opera Mini 5 No Longer Running Beta, Final Version Released

While we all sit and wait to see what Research In Motion is going to bring with its WebKit browser, the folks at Opera Software are going full steam ahead. Long the chosen alternative over the built in BlackBerry browser, Opera Software has finally taken Opera Mini 5 out of beta. As noted in the press release:

Today’s release puts the finishing touches on the Opera mobile-browsing duo. The focus is on delivering the best Internet experience on nearly any mobile phone, along with a unified look and feel and innovative favorite features, such as Speed Dial, password manager and tabbed browsing.

Keeping in mind the needs and wants of our 50+ million users, we have emphasized speed, desktop-like functionality and data savings in our mobile browsers. Today, we have made it even easier for everyone to surf, search and socialize on the Web,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software.

It may be quite some time yet before we see the WebKit browser from RIM. In the meantime, rather then suffering through the horrific browsing experience the BlackBerry offers, you can check out Opera Mini 5.
