Blaq

If you own a BlackBerry PlayBook and use Twitter on it, odds are that you have already heard of, if not already own Blaq. For those unfamiliar with Blaq it is a feature loaded, and beautifully designed Twitter application for the PlayBook that offers a great experience. While the application was built in only 30 days originally, a lot of time and effort has gone into it, and they are back again with another update, bumping it up to version 1.7.1. In this release they have:

  • Timeline position is held if new tweets are loaded while scrolled (instead of jumping to top)
  • Reduced application size
  • Reduced memory footprint
  • Big performance improvements
  • Improved scrolling
  • New splash screen
  • E-mail Tweet
  • Font appearance preview

In addition they have implimented a fix for the streaming issues Twitter caused on Monday, long URL's no longer flow into the tweet beneath them, and a few other fixes as well. If you haven't already done so be sure to hop into App World and update today, and if you have been waiting to purchase, there is no better time than now!

Blaq for PlayBook

When the review for the BlackBird Twitter app for the BlackBerry PlayBook went up, someone made a comment that they wanted to see a Blaq review. Up until that point, I had only seen Blaq on BlackBerry smartphones, and thought it was a decent Twitter application. To be honest, I was already bouncing back and forth between Twitter for BlackBerry and another Twitter client and didn’t feel the need to pick up a third. Had I actually done so, I think that Blaq would have been installed on my BlackBerry PlayBook the moment the app was made available. As I had mentioned in the BlackBird review, accessing Twitter from the PlayBook was (at the time) limited to a basic mobile view – making it painful to use. Even with a new beefed up mobile site, I’ve quickly taken to Blaq to help me keep connected to Twitter. Kisai labs has recently updated Blaq with a slew of new features and fixes, making in (in my opinion) the most functional (and sexy) PlayBook Twitter client yet.

With Notifications, paused timelines and multiple account access, Blaq may have you saying “Holy Tweet!” As lame as that just sounded, let’s hope you keep reading.

Blaq for PlayBook

Since the v.1.1 update of Blaq for the PlayBook Kisai labs has been rather quiet about further updates or so it would seem. Truth is, Kisai labs has been beta testing release after release for a while now with each version getting significantly better. Now, the time has come for Blaq for PlayBook v1.5 to finally be released to BlackBerry App World and ultimately to the masses.

The update is huge and brings along with it plenty of changes and bug fixes. Seriously -- the change log is so big we have to put it past the break for you because if we don't itl will the whole front page. Jump on past to see the full change log or you can just head over to BlackBerry App World right now and grab the latest Blaq for PlayBook v1.5 update.
