We all know that having the latest and greatest tech is something that most of us strive to achieve. But we need to be real sometimes; we just can’t always afford the cost of the upgrade, and this is where TELUS plans to help you with their new trade-up program. The new program will allow you to trade in your old smartphone, whether it is a TELUS, Bell, or Rogers device, and get a credit toward upgrading to that latest BlackBerry (or any smartphone). In my opinion this is actually really good timing seeing the launch of BlackBerry 10 is right around the corner.

Of course there are a few details to note in the program, like your phone needs to be in working condition and the screen needs to power on. But if there’s a small scratch or two you should still be able to receive that credit. TELUS also let us know that they will be implementing a limit to the number of handsets that you will be allowed to turn in, and the magic number will be three. So if you have a box of BlackBerry smartphones you can only trade in three, but if you have a few accounts and will be upgrading them all to BlackBerry 10 feel free to bring them in. A little part of the program that I wanted to toss in is that TELUS will be refurbishing the phones you hand in and reselling them to developing countries. But for those devices that have a zero dollar value TELUS will be planting a tree for you, and starting something new to rebuild our planet. The full press release on the new program can be found after the break.

Take advantage of the new BlackBerry Upgrade Promotion and get cash back when you purchase a new BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 or Curve 9350/9360/9370!

BlackBerry Upgrade Promotion

Yes you read that right .. you can indeed get paid if you upgrade to a new BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 or Curve 9350/9360/9370. RIM has had their BlackBerry Trade Up program in place for a while now, but according to some emails sent out to eligible T-Mobile customers (and a bit of our own recon), there is also a BlackBerry Upgrade Promotion that could net you some quick cash just for purchasing a new BlackBerry. RIM's Upgrade Promotion gets you cash back in the form of a shiny Visa gift card when you purchase a new Bold 9900/9930 or Curve 9350/60/70. The promo applies to US customers only, and you'll get $100 for a Bold or $50 for a Curve. Pretty sweet deal right? Well it doesn't stop there. If you want to go all Extreme Couponing you can get pretty creative and end up with quite a bit of cash in your pocket by combining some promos.

Take this situation - This weekend T-Mobile is offering all of their 4G smartphones up for free - so if you are eligible for an upgrade or just want a new line - you can grab a BlackBerry Bold 9900 on Friday or Saturday and you'll get a $250 rebate (of the mail-in variety) off the bat from T-Mobile, knocking the purchase price of your device down to $0. Add that to the $100 you'll receive from the Upgrade Promotion and you're at $100 cash in pocket. Not enough? Well say you have a BlackBerry Bold 9780 from which you're upgrading -- you can take advantage of the Trade Up Program as well and you'll get an additional $80 back (according to the quote I received). So overall you're looking at $180 in your pocket just for grabbing a brand new BlackBerry Bold 9900 from T-Mobile and sending off your old device. So yes, you're getting paid to get a new phone and unload your old one. Even if you keep your old device you still end up on top with $100. Pretty sweet deal right??

A Step-by-Step Guide Through How the Trade Up Process Works

BlackBerry Trade Up Logo

Like most, I've seen the RIM announcement that was posted here on CrackBerry about the launch of the device Trade Up program earlier this year. Soon after that we reported that the program had been extended to Canada as well and the truth is, I didn't really spend too much time thinking about this new program.

I soon really started thinking about it when I bought my wife and I our shiny new BlackBerry Bold 9900s. I began pondering  what am I going to do with our 9800s? Did I really want to deal with Craigslist and all the ridiculous emails from people who can't read a frak'n ad with the price listed asking me how much it is? What condition is it in? How much has it been used? Are there any scratches? Will I trade a bag of marbles for it? Will I ship it to Nigeria if they paid an extra $100? I didn't want the hassles, so I wondered how the Trade Up program works.
