It’s safe to say that the more moving parts there are on a BlackBerry smartphone, the greater the chance you have of dropping it. Think about it; say you’re running to a meeting-You have your bag or coffee in one hand, and your BlackBerry in another. Suddenly, you get an urgent email from your boss. Unable to focus on the virtual keyboard, you attempt to slide your BlackBerry Torch 9810 or 9800 open to use the physical one. The next thing you know, you’re watching your Torch slip out of your hand and hit the ground. If only you had more protection on it.

Now a while back, I tried out the Seidio Innocase Active for the BlackBerry Torch 9810 and 9800. I was quite impressed with their CONVERT combo, so I wanted to check out something a little less portly. With a thickness of just over 2 millimetres, what kind of protection can it offer?

I am not a big fan of cables – I try to avoid them when I can. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard, I have a Bluetooth speaker phone in my car and I have a stereo Bluetooth headset for when I’m taking the heel-toe express. The one cable that seems to keep me tied down is my BlackBerry charger. I know, it seems petty, but it’s not so much when I’m half asleep, in the dark, fumbling with the charger and charging port. Anyone with extremely active kids knows that the less time you take to plug in your phone, the less time they have to do things they’re not supposed to do (like playing hockey IN the house).

That’s why I like a wireless charging system from the good folks at Powermat. No wires, just power and convenience. While not available for the BlackBerry Bold 9900, it is available for other BlackBerry smartphones, including the BlackBerry Torch 9800 and 9810. For simple charging in a not so simple lifestyle, Powermat is a must have.

If you're looking to get in on the latest official OS for the BlackBerry Torch 9800, Vodafone New Zealand has what you're looking for. Since this one never managed to leak before release, how well it works is still unknown so give it a go. If you're not on Vodafone NZ then make sure you delete the vendor.xml before load this one up.

To be honest, I'm brutal on my BlackBerrys. They've been dropped in the street and bounced off all kinds of floors. Needless to say I've gone through quite a few since owning the Torch 9800 probably because I am a chronic klutz and hate using pocketbooks. it's a horrible combination but I prefer having my device holstered on my hip then packed away in a bag. While it makes my load lighter it increases the chance of serious injury to my BB. So I went for the case/holster combo.

Wow - that's a lot of 6's. While we're not the biggest fan of the numbering on this OS - a new OS is a new OS, right?. SmarTone-Vodafone has released OS 6.0.0.666 for the BlackBerry Bold 9700, Bold 9780, Torch 9800 and Curve 9300. Nothing in yet on what's new with this one, but if you're rolling with one of these devices then give it a go and let us know. Be sure to drop a comment in the forums with your findings. As always, use caution when installing new software on your device.

As Joseph pointed out not long ago, the virtual keyboard on the BlackBerry PlayBook is a little harder for some people to get accustomed to using, in part due to a different layout than that of the BlackBerry Torch/Storm virtual keyboard. As seen in a picture posted in the forums, the virtual keyboard of the Torch 2 9810 (and presumably the Torch 9850/60) will be getting an update with BB7, and will now look a lot more like that of the PlayBook.

Out with the old and in with the new. That's likely what is happening here now that Rogers has decided to officially discontiue the White BlackBerry Torch 9800. While there is still some stock available, you'll find that you'll be hard pressed to get your hands on White BlackBerry Torch 9800 from Rogers. With the supposed 7 new BlackBerry devices set to be released soon, we've got a hunch Rogers will be replacing much of their current BlackBerry line-up with RIM's new offerings.

Though we've seen this OS before in leak and official versions for the BlackBerry Torch 9800,  we thought we should go ahead and let you guys know that AT&T has officially released it as well. I'm sure there may be a small group of you out there waiting for this from AT&T so if that's you, then here you go! If you installed the leak or the official version from Vodafone DE last month, no need to re-install this, as they are all the same OS. As with any OS, be sure to do a backup of your device before installing.

Torch users are a unique bunch. They love the large touchscreen but also take time to remember the full QWERTY keyboard tucked away underneath. When it comes to accessories the Torch may seem a bit lacking, but there are some really great ones that every BlackBerry Torch owner should have. Obviously one of my favorites is the BlackBerry Charging Pod (which I have for all my devices). It is definitely a great accessory and useful in the home or office. Next up would be a great hard case or maybe a leather pocket pouch if that's more your fancy.
