Powermat Wireless Charging System for the BlackBerry Torch 9810 and 9800

I am not a big fan of cables – I try to avoid them when I can. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard, I have a Bluetooth speaker phone in my car and I have a stereo Bluetooth headset for when I’m taking the heel-toe express. The one cable that seems to keep me tied down is my BlackBerry charger. I know, it seems petty, but it’s not so much when I’m half asleep, in the dark, fumbling with the charger and charging port. Anyone with extremely active kids knows that the less time you take to plug in your phone, the less time they have to do things they’re not supposed to do (like playing hockey IN the house).

That’s why I like a wireless charging system from the good folks at Powermat. No wires, just power and convenience. While not available for the BlackBerry Bold 9900, it is available for other BlackBerry smartphones, including the BlackBerry Torch 9800 and 9810. For simple charging in a not so simple lifestyle, Powermat is a must have.

To be honest, I'm brutal on my BlackBerrys. They've been dropped in the street and bounced off all kinds of floors. Needless to say I've gone through quite a few since owning the Torch 9800 probably because I am a chronic klutz and hate using pocketbooks. it's a horrible combination but I prefer having my device holstered on my hip then packed away in a bag. While it makes my load lighter it increases the chance of serious injury to my BB. So I went for the case/holster combo.

Trident Aegis Series Cases for BlackBerry Torch 9800

The Trident Aegis Case for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 offers complete protection with creative design to keep your Torch safe and unharmed without compromising its advanced functionality. Unlike Trident's other series of cases, with the Aegis the silicone layer is on the inside - in direct contact with the BlackBerry Torch 9800, with a hard polycarbonate shell on outside. This design gives the case a unique look and feel while maintaining incredible protectiveness.

The Aegis comes with a scratch and smudge-resistant screen protector- keeping the screen safe without sacrificing responsiveness. The four corners of double-thick silicone insulate your device from everything including light bumps to violent drops with a unique shock-absorbing design.

This case also features a multi coated rubberized finish which lavishes the Aegis with a velvet touch and a sleek look.

Features:

  • Fully encapsulated protection
  • Distinctive construction
  • Drop protection system
  • Anti-Skid design

Torch keyboard comparison

As Joseph pointed out not long ago, the virtual keyboard on the BlackBerry PlayBook is a little harder for some people to get accustomed to using, in part due to a different layout than that of the BlackBerry Torch/Storm virtual keyboard. As seen in a picture posted in the forums, the virtual keyboard of the Torch 2 9810 (and presumably the Torch 9850/60) will be getting an update with BB7, and will now look a lot more like that of the PlayBook.

What's your opinion on the change? If you're a current user of the on-screen keyboard, will this totally throw off your typing, or is it a welcome adjustment? If you don't currently use it, will the change encourage you to give it another try? Let us know in the comments.

Rogers officially discontinues the White BlackBerry Torch 9800

Out with the old and in with the new. That's likely what is happening here now that Rogers has decided to officially discontiue the White BlackBerry Torch 9800. While there is still some stock available, you'll find that you'll be hard pressed to get your hands on White BlackBerry Torch 9800 from Rogers. With the supposed 7 new BlackBerry devices set to be released soon, we've got a hunch Rogers will be replacing much of their current BlackBerry line-up with RIM's new offerings.

Though we've seen this OS before in leak and official versions for the BlackBerry Torch 9800,  we thought we should go ahead and let you guys know that AT&T has officially released it as well. I'm sure there may be a small group of you out there waiting for this from AT&T so if that's you, then here you go! If you installed the leak or the official version from Vodafone DE last month, no need to re-install this, as they are all the same OS. As with any OS, be sure to do a backup of your device before installing.

Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

Fancy an official OS on your BlackBerry, instead of a leak? Well owners of both the Blackberry Torch 9800 and BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300, if that's you, you may now feel free to install OS 6.0.0.600 on your device, as it has been officially released by Vodafone DE. This isn't a new OS, exactly, as both of these devices as well as the BlackBerry Bold 9700 all saw it as a leak earlier this month. If Vodafone DE isn't your carrier, you can still install this OS, just be sure to have a quick read about that pesky Vendor.xml file before you do. If you do install, be sure to hit the forums and let us know what you find. As always, use caution when installing this or any OS.

BlackBerry Torch 9800

Torch users are a unique bunch. They love the large touchscreen but also take time to remember the full QWERTY keyboard tucked away underneath. When it comes to accessories the Torch may seem a bit lacking, but there are some really great ones that every BlackBerry Torch owner should have. Obviously one of my favorites is the BlackBerry Charging Pod (which I have for all my devices). It is definitely a great accessory and useful in the home or office. Next up would be a great hard case or maybe a leather pocket pouch if that's more your fancy. If you plan to hit the road you can check out the great iGrip charging dock and take it along for the ride. Keep reading for more great accessories and your chance to win!

PowerMat BlackBerry Torch 9800

Now wirelessly charging your Torch is as simple as setting it down! Using the PowerMat for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 is easier than ever! Powermat Complete solutions are pre-packaged bundles pairing a Powermat one position wireless charging mat and a wireless charging receiver to provide a seamless upgrade to wireless charging.

The Powermat 1X Wireless Charging Mat is the perfect solution for wirelessly charging in multiple locations in the home and office. Its small footprint fits almost any corner or even the smallest of nightstands. A magnetic attraction between every Receiver and each access point on every Mat assures that alignment is precise and the most efficient charging will occur. A unique sound tells you that a solid connection has been made and your device is charging. A second, similar sound is heard when the device is removed.

Communication between the Mat and the Receiver (via RFID) allows the mat to deliver an exact amount of power for the proper length of time so that the transfer of power is safe and efficient and no energy is wasted. When a device reaches full charge, power is shut off to that device, which avoids overcharging of the device's battery as well as saves energy.

Features:

  • 1 Powermat 1X wireless charging mat
  • 1 Receiver Battery Door for BlackBerry Torch 9800
  • 1 Power Supply (100-240VAC) with built-in cord management
  • Auto Shut Off
  • Full Charge Check
