BlackBerry Torch 9810 'coming soon' page arrives on the AT&T website

On AT&T and wondering when they would break silence on the yet to be official BlackBerry Torch 2 (9810)? Right now is as good a time as any, as you can see from the image above AT&T has gone ahead and made the device live on their site so that folks can sign up to find out more info closer to when the device is set to release. Needless to say, we're waiting on something official here from RIM given that AT&T just blew whatever cover the device had left.

For those you out there who scoff at the 4G branding that's bound to appear on some of these new BlackBerry 7 devices, keep in mind that carriers like AT&T get away with it by associating these types of statements/disclaimers:

*4G speeds delivered by HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul. Available in limited areas. Availability increasing with ongoing backhaul deployment. Learn more at att.com/network. 4G used in connection with the BlackBerry Torch 9810 product name refers to the fact that the Torch 9810 is capable of operating on AT&T's HSPA+ network with enhanced backhaul described herein.

If you like the form factor of the original Torch, the new Torch will keep the feel intact but torches the specs of the original 9800. Everything the original Torch was arguably lacking the new 9810 has: faster processor (1.2GHz, more memory, HD video recording and of course BlackBerry 7). There's no official pricing or release date info yet, but we're sure that's coming soon. In the meantime you can sign up for email updates on the AT&T website, or better yet, just keep it locked to CrackBerry and we'll fill you in on all the details as they emerge. More pics can be found after the break.

Telus Roadmap

If you're looking for one carrier who will be covering all bases BlackBerry, then Telus has this one wrapped up. Their latest leaked roadmap shows they'll soon be launching the whole 2011 line up from RIM. Although the images are rather blurry up there, here is what we can expect for devices and release dates:

  • BlackBerry Torch 2 / 9810 / Jennings - August 15th
  • BlackBerry Bold 9900 / Dakota - August 15th
  • BlackBerry Torch 9860 / Monza - August 22nd
  • BlackBerry Curve Apollo / 9360 - August 29th
  • BlackBerry Orlando / Curve Touch - October 1st
  • BlackBerry Bellagio / Bold 9790 - October 1st

That's quite a bit of BlackBerry devices all within a short span -- looks like RIM will be making up for lost time assuming these dates don't sway far from what they are now. Of course, roadmaps are guidelines and not official but either way -- it's nice to see all those dates listed.

BlackBerry Torch 2 9810 Rogers price card

If you're looking to get a BlackBerry Torch 2 9810 on Rogers up in Canada, it looks like your wish will be granted. Confirmation came today in the form of a price card for the device, confirming everything except the actual price, and a date for release. Specs are all listed as we've seen before, with the exception of that "4G" there. What Rogers is really saying is that it has HSPA+ not their LTE service.

BlackBerry Torch 2 hits the FCC

BlackBerry Torch 2 hits the FCC

With the BlackBerry Bold 9900 having already passed through the hands of the FCC, we now are seeing the BlackBerry Torch 2 9810 get put through its paces. No suprises within its filing though, unless of course you were looking for T-Mobile 3G which -- it doesn't have. The Torch 2 will support GSM 850 and 1900 bands, as well as WCDMA bands II and V making it ready for release on AT&T as expected.

Have we mentioned lately that this device hasn't even been officially announced by RIM? Because, it hasn't yet but we've probably seen as much of this device as we have the officially announced BlackBerry Bold 9900.

BlackBerry Bold 9900

Though still not officially announced, it's pretty clear that the BlackBerry Torch 9850/60, Torch 2 9810, and Curve 9360 are out there and will be available before you know it. We've been taunted with pictures of the devices, a leaked line-up from Bell, and all sorts of rumors and speculation, and today the folks over at MobileSyrup got even more news. Confirming what we saw in a picture a while back, it looks like TELUS is on board with these devices. According to an unnamed source, the following dates are tentatively scheduled:

  • BlackBerry Torch 9810 – August 19th
  • BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 – August 18 or 19th
  • BlackBerry Torch 9860 – August 26th
  • BlackBerry “Bellagio” (possibly Curve 9360) – TBD – Late September

"Bellagio" is a code name we haven't heard before, but as with all code names we see BlackBerry devices wear before launch, it doesn't necessarily indicate that's what it will be sold as. These dates are just a little over a month away, who's getting excited?!

BlackBerry Torch 2

For a while now we've been hearing that the BlackBerry Torch 2 9810 would likely arrive to carriers before the BlackBerry Bold 9900. While that remains to be seen, the evidence supporting that suggestion does keep adding up and the above image showing an August release does make sense.

That said; one thing that doesn't make sense in the grand scheme of things is the fact that the device is listed as being the BlackBerry Torch 4G. The BlackBerry Torch 2 has a max of HSPA 14.4Mbps as we've seen in many reviews and even the previously leaked spec sheet. If we had to take a wild guess here, and assuming it does arrive as the BlackBerry Torch 4G -- it's just more smoke being blown in our eyes by AT&T, just like every other carrier the labels HSPA+ as 4G.

BlackBerry Torch 2 device simulator

Two weeks ago we saw the device simulator for the BlackBerry Torch 9850 leak, and today we bring you the the BlackBerry Torch 2 9810 simulator! This is as close as you can get to actually having this device, unless of course, you somehow have this device in which case yay! Sometimes people find fun new stuff in these simulators, like new icons or what-have-you.

Since everyone always asks "What is this for?" when we post this kind of stuff -- it's a device simulator for BlackBerry developers to test their apps on. If you're not a developer or just generally have no interest in playing with a device you can't yet physically touch -- this isn't for you. Cool? Alright then, hit the link below to grab the install file.

Screen Resolution

For developers, updating their applications to new devices can be easy but when new screen resolutions are introduced that task does indeed become a little bit harder. A prime example of this is when we were at BlackBerry World, Kevin, Adam and I tested out Angry Farm on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 to see if it would play any better with the new processor. Given that Angry Farm was not optimized for the Bold 9900 some portions of the game didn't fit the screen. The of course was because the BlackBerry Bold 9900 had a larger screen resolution then what the game was set to display.

So in short, developers will need to update their apps in order to make sure they work on the 9360, 9810, 9850, 9900 and 9930. Wait -- what? 9360, 9810, 9850? Yeah, Research In Motion just inadvertently outed the new BlackBerry Curve, Torch 2 and Torch 9850 via their own BlackBerry Developers blog. Although to their credit they are still listed as simulator models. However, we already know what they are due to all the previous leaks so I guess the real question here is -- when are you going to officially announce these devices RIM? You know, since even the simulators are now available and all.

BlackBerry Torch 2 gets previewed yet again, still not official

I'm sure this will come as no surprise to anyone out there but the still unofficial, unannounced BlackBerry Torch 2 has one again received some hands-on love. At this point, there is very little information remaining to be said about the BlackBerry Torch 2.

Aside from a release date and official announcement of carriers we're baffled as to why RIM isn't just shipping this device already -- they've had plenty of time to be working on it and they're well aware they need a new in-market device so, what exactly is the hold up? Specs call for AT&T on this one, we're wondering if it's carrier approval or if BlackBerry 7 is still being optimized for the new hardware we're seeing here.

  • Processor: 1.2 GHz processor
  • Radio: Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE ; Tri-band HSPA 14.4Mbps

  • Memory: 8GB storage + 768MB RAM + up to 32GB MicroSD
  • Connectivity: WiFi + Bluetooth + NFC

No surprise here but, the BlackBerry Torch 2 leaks are continuing. First was some low lighted images then came the higher res ones and now -- a video. Although it's not the first time we've seen the BlackBerry Torch 2 on video, it does give us one of the better walkthroughs of the hardware and software from a pre-release perspective. Revisiting the specs on the BlackBerry Torch 2:

  • Processor: 1.2 GHz processor
  • Radio: Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE ; Tri-band HSPA 14.4Mbps
  • Display: 3.2" VGA - 480 x 640 capacitive touchscreen display
  • Memory: 8GB storage + 768MB RAM + up to 32GB MicroSD
  • Connectivity: WiFi + Bluetooth + NFC
  • Camera: 5 MP
  • Battery: 1300MAh battery
  • Dimension: 14.6mm thick
  • Sensors: magnetometer

By now, this thing has leaked onto the web so many times we're really starting to wonder when RIM will actually put the official stamp on it and announce it. Previous Torch owners, after having watched the video will be upgrading to the BlackBerry Torch 2 or will you be holding out for something better? Sound off in the comments and let us know.

BlackBerry Torch 2

Although it was only just the other day we saw some new images of the BlackBerry Torch 2 turn up, it has now once again appeared in some new images. This time around we get some better lighting to go ahead and shine on the device to help show it off. We also get a look at the OS running on the device which is now showing as BlackBerry 7 as opposed to the previous leaks which showed off BlackBerry 6.1.

New images to look at but sadly, it's still rocking that battery door we also saw from previous leaks. I for one, hope they decide to swap that out before an actual release. Not really fond of all that shine that is going on there, anyone else? Few more images can be found after the break, you can also hit up the source link for their full gallery.

BlackBerry Torch 2

We haven't seen much of the upcoming BlackBerry Torch 2 in the last few weeks, but the guys at TechnoBuffalo tossed up a few images in case you're in withdrawal. Nothing really new here from these shots, but we do get to see more of my least favorite battery door to date (I think it looks Bedazzled!). Also we can tell from the icons that this guy is running OS 7 as expected. A quick recap of the BlackBerry Torch 2 specs:

BlackBerry Torch 2 Key Specs:

  • Processor: 1.2 GHz processor
  • Radio: Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE ; Tri-band HSPA 14.4Mbps
  • Display: 3.2" VGA - 480 x 640 capacitive touchscreen display
  • Memory: 8GB storage + 768MB RAM + up to 32GB MicroSD
  • Connectivity: WiFi + Bluetooth + NFC
  • Camera: 5 MP
  • Battery: 1300MAh battery
  • Dimension: 14.6mm thick
  • Sensors: magnetometer

If all goes according to plan, the Torch 2 should be launching sometime after the Bold 9900/9930 (which we still have no official launch date for). It may be the next in line or mixed in with one of the other rumored 2011 devices we should see before the end of the year. One more image after the break.

Just in case the BlackBerry Touch wasn't enough or you prefer the BlackBerry Torch style a little more, the same folks who posted up the BlackBerry Touch video have also gone hands-on with the BlackBerry Torch 2. Another device we expect to hear more about come time for BlackBerry World but for now we've got videos to hold us over.

Discuss the video in the CrackBerry Forums

BlackBerry Torch 2

On top of the bevy of spec sheets leaked today, the BlackBerry Torch 2 has been getting lots of camera time as well. We'd really like to say we're excited for this device as a whole but really, the other devices such as the BlackBerry Bold Touch and BlackBerry Touch excite us a tad bit more -- again, they're new designs and new hardware so they certainly have the lead advantage. No matter, personal preferences aside, check out these newer images of the BlackBerry Torch 2. A couple more can be found after the break.

BlackBerry Torch 2 spec sheet leaked

While the other two specs sheets leaked today were a little more important than this one as they came from new designs rather then a revamped one that doesn't mean they don't contain some nice info as well. We've seen plenty of the Torch 2 already to get a feel for it but now, we also know the codename associated to it. Jennings it is, with the numerical association as mentiond being 9810. Read on for the full specs plus, some new pictures are coming up as well shortly.
