BlackBerry Style coming to Boost Mobile

Have an urge to try out the BlackBerry Style 9670, but not looking to start up a new contract at Sprint? According to the picture above, Boost Mobile will be getting this device in soon, so you can explore your clamshell curiosities without commitment. For all the jokes I hear about the Style and its unique look, the word from people that actually own one is that it's a great device. I had doubts before it was released, but I took a trip to a Sprint store with Bla1ze one day and decided the design isn't bad at all. And it sure beats the BlackBerry Pearl Flip

According to the screenshot, you'll be able to pick the BlackBerry Style up for $199, though apparently the rumor is Best Buy will have them for $280, so I suppose we'll see when it comes out. Personally I think this is a good move. Summer is underway, but it's never to early to think about back-to-school, and I think flip phones are a good choice for tweens and teens, especially prepaid. Go ahead, make it a BlackBerry!

Leaked OS 6.0.0.413 For The BlackBerry Style 9670

It's like a cat and mouse game here with the BlackBerry Style OS' it seems. .407 leaked then became official, now .413 is here, will it go official as well? Not likely just yet but, that's the joy of a leak. You get to mess around with it ahead of time. Be sure to back up your data before load it up folks, it's a leak and as such it remains untested for the masses.

*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

BlackBerry Style 9670 now available from TELUS

TELUS users who've been waiting for the BlackBerry Style to arrive can now get their hands on one. TELUS has listed the deivce on their website for $79.99 on a new 3-year contract. Although, Future Shop still has their pricing set at $49.99 with a new 3-year as well. No matter where you go to grab one, the fact that it's still priced under that $100 mark is pretty sweet for one of the latest BlackBerry devices out there.

TELUS BlackBerry Style priced at $49.99 according to Future Shop ad

Chalk this one up as another case of big box outlets outing carrier device prices even before the carriers get a chance to announce them. Future Shop, has posted the BlackBerry Style 9670 pricing for TELUS on their website. As was mentioned previously, BlackBerry Style dummy units have already arrived at TELUS. With this information now being posted up, it's pretty safe to assume that we'll get to see an "in time for the holidays" launch of the BlackBerry Style for TELUS' remaining CDMA users. Just remember folks, this is a CDMA only device it cannot be unlock for use on Rogers or any other GSM carrier and that's $49.99 with a 3-year contract.

BlackBerry Style dummy units now arriving at TELUS

TELUS was quick to confirm they'd also be releasing the BlackBerry Style 9670 shortly after the initial Sprint announcement but no official date was actually set at that time. But, given that the dummy unit devices are now showing up at retail locations launch surely cannot be far off. There is a suggested price of $399.99 outright being put out there but of course, that's all subject to change at any point. Be sure to check out our full BlackBerry Style break down for specs, videos and pics. Anyone on TELUS going to be grabbing one up once released?

Sprint BlackBerry Style 9670 review

A Hands-On Review of the Sprint BlackBerry Style 9670

BlackBerry Style 9670 Sprint

At first the idea of a flip style BlackBerry actually appealed to me because I work with children and my phone is usually in my pocket the majority of my day. The first few pictures released of the rumored device were UGLY and I couldn't possibly see me owning one. Then a few more pictures leaked out showing a sleeker looking Style and I began to reconsider. When CrackBerry announced that Sprint was allowing reservations of the device at the same time I was eligible for an upgrade, I thought I'd try it out. Worst case scenario, I use the Sprint 30 day guarantee and return the device if I absolutely hate it. I can now say the Style has won me over, and will be joining the rest of the BlackBerry devices in my collection. Read on to see the rest of my review.

BlackBerry Style 9670 and red BlackBerry Torch 9800 headed to Bell

Just in case all the talk of the BlackBerry Bold 9780 releasing in Canada was driving you crazy because what you really want is red BlackBerry Torch or BlackBerry Style then this news may be more to your liking. It seems as though both the red Torch and BlackBerry Style will be shipped off to Bell locations across Canada starting on November 15th with device purchasing going live on November 23rd.

The red Torch is suggested to cost $179.99 with a 3-year contract while the BlackBerry Style retail price is said to be $399.99. The contract pricing for the Style at this point was not available. Which would drop the cost to something a little more realistic with contract terms but I'm sure that will pop up soon enough.

What's next from BlackBerry?
Any bets on what kind of BlackBerry we'll see next from Research In Motion?!

On the last RIM earnings call, Co-CEO Jim Balsillie said we'd see some "acceleration" from RIM towards the end of the calendar year. After what was an extremely quiet start of 2010 on the new BlackBerry front, over the last few months RIM has pushed out and/or announced a bunch of new devices onto the market. Along with BlackBerry 6, we saw the Pearl 3G and Bold 9650 get announced at WES. The Curve 3Gs followed suit as did the BlackBerry Torch. And now in what felt like rapid succession, the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet got announced as did the BlackBerry Style and BlackBerry Bold 9780. With all of the above now announced and/or out on the market, our CrackBerry minds can't help but wonder What's Next??

BlackBerry Style 9670

Anyone who picked up a brand new BlackBerry Style will tell you the OS that it released with was 6.0.0.248 but, there is now already a later version available for users in the form of a leak. OS 6.0.0.286 is what has just become available and if you're willing to try it out then by all means, do so. Just remember, not an official OS folks.

Happy Halloween!!! October 31st is here, and in addition to all the trick of treating that will be taking place today it also means that the BlackBerry Style from Sprint is now on sale! We called around to a few Sprint stores yesterday and it looks like most have it in stock and ready to buy TODAY. If you're getting one, drop us a comment and be sure to let us know how it goes and what your first impressions are.

You can check out my video first impressions and overview video of the Style above. My full review will be coming this week. I've actually been rocking the Style all weekend in Las Vegas (been getting a few weird glances though - maybe I should have grabbed the Steel Grey one instead of Royal Purple) but all in all have been really liking the phone. BlackBerry 6 is snappy on it, the camera has been taking good photos and the battery has been getting me through the day ok. If you're a flip phone fan the Style is a no brainer -- especially at Sprint's attractive $99/2year contract pricing -- and I could even see some non-flip phone fans getting won over by it too. It's a nice little addition to the BlackBerry lineup.

If you're looking for more info on the Style, check out the press release here and head to your local Sprint store!

We'll be following up shortly with our full BlackBerry Style 9670 review, but in the meantime figured we'd throw up our initial hands-on video impressions to ease the wait for all the flip phone lovers out there. The BlackBerry Style will be available from Sprint starting this halloween, October 31st for $99.99 on a 2 year contract (see announcement). It's an attractive price for what really is a solid little BlackBerry. If you're a fan of flip phones, you'll definitely want to head into a Sprint store and put yours hands on one. I'm not sure photos or even video quite do the Style justice.

To be honest, my expectations for the BlackBerry Style were set pretty low. The pre-release photos that leaked out onto the net didn't show off the 9670 in the best of light, and heck, we even ran a poll on CrackBerry here asking readers whether the Style was Hot or Not, and a full 81% of respondents said Not and that RIM should just skip the 9670 and move on to the next device. Ouch. Painful. But after using the Style I can definitely see why Sprint wanted this phone and why RIM built it. With 512MB flash memory, BlackBerry 6, 5 megapixel camera and a decently sized screen, the Style has solid specs and serves up pretty snappy performance. There is a big user base of people out there who simply love the flip phone form factor and who want a full physical keyboard. The BlackBerry Style fills that void. Check out the video above to see the Royal Purple BlackBerry Style in action, and stay tuned for the full review!

BlackBerry Style

Now that the BlackBerry Style is all official, Research In Motion and Sprint have been taking the device on the road and showing it to folks even before it gets into stores. Probably something that should have been done at DevCon but, hey we're not judging here. The fine folks over at Engadget had a NYC meetup and had the chance to get a little close with the BlackBerry Style. Of course, we'll be giving the device a full run through shortly here on CrackBerry but the lighting in the above picture does show off the device rather nicely. Be sure to check out the full spec sheet, image gallery and press release we previously posted if the 9670 is your Style.
