Devcon Asia

A great presence in Asia is soon to become greater for RIM. Following the huge success of BlackBerry Developer Conference 2010 in San Francisco, our innovative friends in Waterloo, Canada are heading to Asia next; a first for the Orient. Prior to this, Asia was blessed with the BlackBerry Developer Day in Thailand, but this time, RIM intends to bring more to the table - beyond a couple of coffee breaks.

It's time folks! BlackBerry DevCon 2010 is now in full swing and the keynote is where we'll hear the big news. It's a developer conference so we're expecting lots of developer related news, but you know how it goes - what's good for developers is usually good for the end user.

DevCon10

The Crack team has arrived in San Francisco safe and sound, and we're excited for the week ahead! Adam, Bla1ze, Isaac, Dave Peckens (our CrackBerry Idol winner!) and myself are all on hand to bring back the BlackBerry news as it happens. It's shaping up to be a good DevCon so let's hope for some big news!

We'll be live blogging the General Session keynote, which takes place today (Monday) at 1pm PDT. Being a conference for developers we're expecting a lot of news for developers, but you never know - hopefully we'll see some of the DevCon rumors become reality and we'll finally find out RIM's plans for entering the tablet world. Be sure to check it out.

And when the official news ends, we'll be following up with loads more content in the days ahead - interviews with developers, RIM folk and more. We'll be firing up the CrackBerry.tv video camera every chance we get! And when Wednesday night rolls around, we'll cap off #DevCon10 with the CrackBerry App Awards party. For details and to RSVP, click here. We hope you enjoy the coverage. Stay tuned!!!

CrackBerry App Awards Party - RSVP Now!

Just a friendly reminder to anybody who is attending the BlackBerry Developer Conference or will be in San Francisco next Wednesday evening (Sept. 29th) to swing by the CrackBerry App Awards party. Hosted by our friends at xobni and sponsored by the BlackBerry Partners Fund (free booze!), the party will kick off at 7pm at xobni's headquarters (twitter's old offices). Shuttles will be running from the San Francisco Marriott Marquis hotel where DevCon is being hosted right to the party, so getting to the event will be easy. It'll be a good time, so commmmme on down! You can RSVP now by clicking on the image above or link at the bottom of this post.

The polling is over now for the 2010 CrackBerry App Awards and the votes have been tallied. Heck, we've even ordered up some Cracky trophies for the winners. All that's left to do now is get on stage and announce the winners at the CrackBerry Awards Party! If you're a developer and were nominated for an award, we especially hope to see you there!

DevCon

The BlackBerry Developers Conference is a mere 6 days away from now. Since we're getting ever so close, the common question asked is what will we be seeing come from from Research In Motion during that time? This year, Research In Motion has been rather giving in terms of the information being relayed about what to expect. Through videos and blog postings we now know that they'll certainly be showing off BlackBerry 6 on a number of devices including the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and the BlackBerry Pearl 3G (sure would be nice if they'd just release that already!). Check out the videos and info after the break to learn more about some of the stuff we're looking forward to seeing.

A few days ago, a few of the folks heading up this year BlackBerry Developers Conference got to sit down and discuss some of the events happening at DevCon this year. Those individuals, Chris Smith, Tyler Lessard, Tim Neil and Mike Kirkup  all appear in the above video and give us all some great insight regarding what to expect. A lot of questions were asked and a lot of good answers were relayed throughout the video. Of course, no striking details were revealed as we all know we'll have to wait for DevCon for more information. But, the excitement around DevCon is building and you better believe we'll be there to cover it. Stay tuned for more DevCon coverage! For more info on the event and to register, click here.

Calling all BlackBerry Developers... Need some motivation to take your apps to the next level? Get in on the BlackBerry Super Apps Challenge!

Over the past year or more we have seen a push from within Research In Motion to reach out to developers in an effort to create better, more compelling applications for the BlackBerry platform. Better tools, more API's and more education on what, exactly developers can do with the BlackBerry platform has been passed on. Events such as the BlackBerry Developers Conference and such initiatives as the BlackBerry Developers Challenge have led the way in increasing that awareness. But, with all that is going on in the "app" sector, do you all as end users feel that such things have offered assistance with making BlackBerry applications better? Let your be counted and of course, please feel free to explain why you voted how you did in the comments.
