BlackBerry 7

Someone call the plumber, the leaks are flooding in this morning. This time around they come in the form of OS 7.0.0.187 for the unreleased BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900/9930, and the still unannounced BlackBerry Torch 9850/9860 and the BlackBerry Curve 9350/9370. Obviously, these don't do us common folk much good, but if you're one of the minority and happen to have one of these devices, you might be interested in downloading these and giving them a go. Do not go crazy and try to install them on your current device if you don't have the ones listed above! No they will not work on your PlayBook, Bold 9700, or Curve 8320.

Pssst... RIM, if you're reading this, why not just go ahead and announce the new Torch line and those Curves? They aren't really a secret anymore anyway.

*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

Although the BlackBerry Bold 9900 may be delayed for consumers that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of them out there. Even during BlackBerry World it wasn't all that rare to see plenty of folks making use of the device -- not as many as officially released devices mind you but if you were looking for a Bold 9900 they were easy to spot. This latest sighting comes to us from Vietnam, and also gives quite a reivew of the device itself. You'll have to hit Google Translate to read it but if you're just wanting to see more of the device you can jump on past the break for some nice photos.

BlackBerry Bold Touch!

Maybe it's just because I blog about BlackBerry so am continuously typing it out and worrying about post headlines and tagging articles and site organization and visitors easily finding information about the device they own quickly, but I'm finding it **really** annoying that RIM decided to abandon/ignore the unified naming convention on their upcoming touchscreen BlackBerry Bold to be both the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Bold 9930 without adding in an extra word to the name that encompasses both new models.

With the BlackBerry Curve 3G and BlackBerry Pearl 3G, RIM did the right thing in my opinion - they made it clear to owners that they had a uniquely different device from previous generations, and gave it a name that refers to multiple devices within that generation of device (the Curve 3G 9300/9330 and Pearl 3G 9100/9105). But for the new Bold now, everytime I want to talk about it in a manner that talks about both the GSM and CDMA variants of the device, I need to refer to both the Bold 9900 and Bold 9930 (If I just say 9900, I'm technically excluding the 9930... though I could say Bold 9900 Series... but that's not really an official name either).

Cutting short what I could turn into a really long rant, I just wish RIM would have called it the BlackBerry Bold Touch. Sure, the Bold Touch sounds like it could be the name of a porno movie or a Harlequin romance, but it would make my life soooo much easier and less annoying on a daily basis, and I'm sure most consumers would appreciate having a distinct name for their new Bold over a distinct number. If not Bold Touch, then maybe Touch Bold, or something unique.

Blue steel? Ferrari? Le Tigre? They're the same face!  Bold 9900? Bold 9930? For the majority of consumer purposes, it's the same device! I feel like I'm on crazy pills here! I want to refer to both under one name! If you're with me (or not), be sure to sound off in the comments. Not sure why I'm so ranty today... could be that I'm sick of waiting for my BlackBerry Bold 9900 / BlackBerry Bold 9930 and just have to vent. Notice how much easier that last sentence would have been if said I'm sick of waiting for the BlackBerry Bold Touch?

T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900

We like carrier road maps here at CrackBerry. They often give us a great perspective of what is up and coming for specific carriers. That said, road maps when leaked can often times be a little old and out of date so -- try and keep that in mind as we go through the following list of devices seemingly slated for T-Mobile.

No, this isn't the first time we've heard of these devices all being brought to T-Mobile. Previous rumors suggested all of them listed within similar time frames as well -- the problem we have with this listing is the fact the BlackBerry Bold Touch is already confirmed for T-Mobile while, the BlackBerry monza hasn't even received an official welcoming to the family from RIM. Sure, it's totally possible these dates are accurate but if you find the BlackBerry Bold 9900 on shelves before the monza, we'd not be surprised at all.

In any event, we'll just have to wait and see how this road map turns out. No matter how you look at it, we're just super stoked to see some actual dates at all for the next generation of BlackBerry smartphones.

T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900

With the announcement of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 comes confirmation from T-Mobile that they will indeed be making the device available to their customers. Sadly, no official date has been set as of yet or pricing terms but for some folks, just knowing T-Mobile is adding it to their line-up will be enough to hold them over. Of course, we expect other carriers to make their announcements as well so, stay tuned! Did we mention it was HSPA+ enabled? It is.

RIM outs the all new BlackBerry Bold Touch ahead of BlackBerry World

We're just mere days away from the RIM's BlackBerry World Conference and while we speculated that the new device they'd be showing off there would indeed be the all new BlackBerry Bold Touch, RIM has for lack of better words -- confirmed it via a slip up on the BlackBerry homepage. While the the images are now gone, this is a pretty big slip up to be making in the first place, considering it gives out the name of the device and even shows off the fact it will be running BlackBerry 7. One more pic of the BlackBerry Bold Touch can be found after the break. Oh right, yes -- that is Facebook on the BlackBerry PlayBook as well in the background. Thanks, for sending this in Joey!

BlackBerry Bold touch gets Wi-Fi Alliance certification

Considering pretty much everything else about the BlackBerry Bold touch has already been leaked, we figured we might as well really drive the information home and let you all know that the device -- the "BlackBerry Bold 9900" as it is designated within the Wi-Fi Alliance has now received their certification.

Although the documentation is rather short on any finer details, it does indeed confirm the BlackBerry Bold touch has 2.4GHz & 5GHz Wi-Fi bands on board. Something that came up in the spec sheets leaks previously but is now no longer in question at all.

How many days is it until BlackBerry World? Let's just hope RIM comes up with a different way to introduce it rather then showing us a video we've already seen and you know, gives us a launch date since that really is the only thing left remaining to leak out or be confirmed at this point.

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900

If you're tired of hearing about the BlackBerry PlayBook (though really how can you be?) here are some new pictures of the upcoming BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900. Every time I see this device, I want it more and more. Not only will it feature that awesome Bold keyboard, but it also has a touchscreen and the new 6.1 OS. I really hope this BlackBerry gets announced at BlackBerry World Conference, which is just about 3 weeks away. Are you waiting for the BlackBerry Bold Touch, or are you more interested in one of the other new devices that we've seen lately, like the Torch 2 or one of the new Curves?  Check out more pictures of the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 after the break.

From there, we move into a long discussion on the BlackBerry PlayBook. I've had my unit for over a week. Adam has had his for about 12 hours. And Bla1ze, Craig and Joseph had lots of questions and comments as we walked through it all, starting with the hardware and diving into the software. The show nearly stretches out to 2 hours... but it's one you'll want to listen to if you're thinking about becoming a BlackBerry PlayBook Addict. Enjoy the show!

BlackBerry Bold Touch promo video leaks out

Of all things remaining that could have possibly leaked for this device -- this pretty much takes the cake in our opinion. In any event, the bove video is what is reported to be the promo video for the yet-to-be announced BlackBerry Bold Touch. Enjoy it while you can folks, we're guessing this one won't last very long on YouTube. Of course, by all means -- drop some comments on what you think about the direction RIM took with it.

Been waiting to see more of the BlackBerry Bold Touch? Check out the video above that has now popped up. Seems as though all of these upcoming devices are just a little further along in production then intially thought, although -- with BlackBerry World coming up that doesn't really surprise us much since we're expecting to get some sort of official announcement there. Although the video is just a brief walkthrough it certainly shows off how nice and responsive the touch screen is and needless to say -- we can't wait to get up close and personal with a Bold Touch of our own. Drop your thoughts in the comments folks, and remember this is the CDMA version not GSM.

BlackBerry Bold Touch Dakota full spec sheet leaked

We've had glimpses of the specs for the BlackBerry Bold Touch before but, the finer details of it all were not found within any of that information. Now, the full line up of specs has been leaked online for everyone to get a good look at -- although, we do have to remind everyone that this information is of course subject to change. That said, have a look at the specs as they are listed now, they are pretty impressive and totally what we have been asking for from RIM for a while. Snapdragon processor? Yeah, RIM finally got moved into the Qualcomm msm8655. Jump on past the break for more.

The recent leak of OS 6.1.0.44 seems to be full of goodies. First some extracted apps, then a peak at some new icons, and then earlier today the entire icon set. Now we get a couple of tutorial videos for the hardware, homescreen, placing a call, SIM insertion, and some basics. This is also gives us a nice 360 degree view of the device itself in (simulated) action. I don't know about you all but I'm pretty stoked for this device. Jump on past the break for all the videos.

BlackBerry Bold Touch
Bold 9700 (left) vs. the new BlackBerry Bold Touch (right)

Gotta love it when a plan comes together! Following up on the 2011 BlackBerry Smartphone Roadmap leaks of January, we're starting to see these devices take shape for REALZ in February. We saw the monaco/Storm 3 show up on video yesterday, and now today we're looking at live photos of the BlackBerry Bold Touch, which currently goes by the codename dakota. As you can tell, the newest Bold (pictured above on the right) looks more like the original Bold 9000 from the front than the smaller Bold 9700/9780 we're currently used to. I can't wait to pound out emails and BBMs on the Bold Touch's keyboard... that is the Cadillac of smartphone keyboards right there. As for what the Bold Touch is packing inside, here's the specs as they have been rumored to date:

  • Dimensions: 115 x 66 x 10.5mm
  • Radio: Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE; Tri Band UMTS
  • Display: 2.8" diagonol - VGA 640 x 480, resolution 287dpi
  • Camera: 5mp - Flash - Image Stabilization - HD Recording (720p)
  • Navigation: Capacitive Touch, Optical Trackpad
  • Keypad: Wide QWERTY - Physical Send, End, Escape, Menu, Right Side Convenience Key, Volume Control
  • Memory: 8GB - 768MB RAM - up to 32GB MicroSd Card
  • WiFi: 2.4 GHZ b/g/n - 5GHz a/n - Mobile Hotspot
  • Connectivity: Micro USB - Bluetooth - NFC
  • Sensors: Magnetometer - Accelerometer - Proximity

Lots more photos after the break, so check them out! Looks like we'll need to see some new Bold Touch cases for this one too. You don't want to miss the one where you see that the trim around the Bold Touch's keypad LIGHTS UP!!! Who's waiting on this one?? I know I am!
