BerryReader Berry Reader

The folks at BellShare, winner of CrackBerry's 2010 BlackBerry App Developer of the Year award, have released an update to their popular Google Reader client for BlackBerry, aptly named BerryReader. Version 1.1 brings with it a number of changes, which include:

  • Added share via e-mail, Twitter and Facebook support
  • Added new visual UI for swiping article headers to toggle read/star on touchscreen devices
  • Now showing multiple article images inline, not just the first one
  • New image viewer for full size image viewing, with option to zoom and pan (supports pinch-to-zoom on touchscreens)
  • Added option to hide "all feeds"/"feeds not in folders" from feed selection popup
  • Feed selection popup now shows feeds below folders
  • Improved overall UI responsiveness
  • Many bug fixes and other improvements

Overall it's a great list of improvements. I personally love BerryReader. I installed it when it first came out and have been using it religiously ever since. It stays fully synced to my Google Reader account and you can still read stories even when you don't have a network coverage. It's definitely a nice app to have, especially if you're on a non-BlackBerry 6 operating system.

Save 50% on BerryReader Today Only: BellShare has set up a 50% off coupon code for BerryReader. Use coupon code berryreader11 at checkout from our Mobile App Store or App Store Client and you can get it for $4.97 vs. it's regular $9.95 price. Make sure you're seeing the discounted price before you complete checkout and note that the coupon code only works from our on-device stores.

Review: BerryMail for BlackBerry

berrymail

I swear - if I get one more email about me being an heir to some overseas dead relative’s fortune, I’m going to scream. It seems as though unwanted email messages sometimes find a way to sneak through the guarded borders of your precious inbox. What’s worse is when that email is pushed to your BlackBerry. There you are in a meeting, a theatre, or having a romantic evening-You are already fighting your BlackBerry addiction; trying to stay in the moment. Then you feel the vibrating alert of a new message. INCOMING!! You succumb once again and sneak a peek. Then anger begins to fester, as you realize you risked getting caught, only to find an email promising to help you enlarge a specific part of the human anatomy (some of you even more upset at being bothered, as you don’t even have the part to begin with!).

BerryMail provides its services which include being another filter and managing the emails that see the light of day on your BlackBerry. It makes sense to manage filters directly on your BlackBerry – seeing how you are on the go anyway.

Kevin dropped word earlier today about the new CrackBerry Wallpaper Changer app from ShaoSoft, and since then I have received word through the grapevine that Bellshare has released a new beta build of their popular application BerryWeather, with compatibility for the new build. Those that have downloaded either the free or paid versions of the new Wallpaper Changer can test out the new BerryWeather build from the OTA links below. Keep in mind that this is a beta build, so you may encounter the odd glitch or bug. You can report anything you find at the Bellshare forums thread here and help them out to make the app even better. Note - while the BerryWeather beta is available for 4.2.1 and 4.6, you need at least OS 4.7 for use of the CB Wallpaper Apps. Special thanks to Yester18 for the tip.

Review of BerryPopup for BlackBerry Smartphones

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

First off, BellShare does a great job at the applications that we all love, doesn't matter if we want the weather, a colored LED to notify us of a SMS, MMS or email account; BellShare has developed an application for that. They also have come up with some improvements with the Berry Popup application. While some don't feel the need for this app, others like myself have really enjoyed it and then are annoyed by little things that the app does. As with anything in life, nothing is ever perfect, just as maybe getting a newer OS seems cool doesn't mean that it necessarily going to be better, there is always something that people will complain about. Some of us are lazy and don't want to push the blackberry button to see which email we just received from which account and thanks to the kind people at Bellshare, they have an app for that. (sorry for the pun) I really do love using the Berry Popup for a quick glance to see if the email is spam or a call from that chick you just met. (could be the same thing)

BerryReader for BlackBerry BerryReader for Blackberry

Bellshare has been hard at work and have just released another great app. This time it comes in the form of an RSS reader with BerryReader. BerryReader is a great Google Reader client that has loads of features. I've been searching for a decent Google Reader app for ages and this one totally fits the bill. Features include:

  • Access your All Items, Starred Items, Shared Items, a single feed or a single folder for reading
  • Automatically update in the background every 15, 30, 45 minutes, 1 or 3 hours
  • Manage (add/remove) subscriptions from your device
  • Quickly toggle an article's Starred, Like, Unread and Shared labels or edit the article's tags for later filtering.
  • Read the current list even while offline, changes to labels and tags will be cached and automatically synced when network coverage is regained
  • Get notified whenever new articles are available (Includes custom LED color support through BerryBuzz)
  • Integrates into the device's messages list showing a BerryReader item whenever new articles are available

This app really has some great features and the updates will keep coming. BerryReader is available for $9.95 (a bit steep, but totally worth it for the sync and other features) and a 7-day trial is available. If you pick it up before Sunday using the code berryreader50 you can save 50% (this code only works in the mobile app store or Superstore client). You can grab it at the link below or via our recently-updated on-device CrackBerry App Superstore client.

Bellshare Releases Free Version Of BerryPopup

The good folks from Bellshare have just let us know they have launched a free version of their popular email/text popup application. BePopup Free aka BerryPopup will show popups for e-mails with basic sender and subject information as well as Bellshare.com and CrackBerry.com forum notification emails. The free version has just been listed in BlackBerry App World for users to download and as a special bonus, if you are looking to purchase the full version you can now get $2 off when using the coupon code "2offberrypopup" in the CrackBerry App Store.

Free BerryWeather Add-on: WeatherPeek

Bellshare has just released a pretty cool add on for their popular BerryWeather application. The newly released WeatherPeek allows you to access BerryWeather information at a glance by just simply setting a convenience key on your device.

When set, a pop up will show up and be displayed. Pressing the SPACE key will dismiss the popup and you'll be back to whatever it was you are doing. Pretty cool and nice integration. Although I can't see myself using it a lot since I personally have BerryWeather as my wallpaper, but for those that don't this could prove helpful.

BerryBuzz 3.0 BerryBuzz 3.0

BerryBuzz has received a major overhaul and is now available in the form of BerryBuzz 3.0. The new update has a load of action-packed features that make this the best version yet. I'm a big fan of this app, and the update adds a ton of welcome additions. BerryBuzz lets you totally customize your LED for messages, reminders, phone calls and now some 3rd party apps and contact alerts. Updates include:

  • Major rework of the user interface (Includes option to black out all screens)
  • Added support for more 3rd party apps like Twitter (RIM), TweetGenius, UberTwitter, SocialScope, OpenBeak, BeejiveIM, IM+, WhatsApp, Skype, MySpace, Viigo, ebay App, MeterBerry, instango
  • Added contact LEDs that let you assign LED colors to calls/SMS/e-mails from specific contacts
  • Added option to vibrate while ringing for all notifications
  • Added 4 new colors and 12 new LED disco colors
  • Added support for stacking 2 LED colors for even more color variations
  • Added option to vibrate/play sound when call connected/disconnected

The ability to now add alerts for contacts, dual-colors for alerts, 3rd party app support and a backup/restore feature for settings make this a great app to have. The downside is that current BerryBuzz owners will have to cough up another $1.99 to get the upgrade, while new users can get it fresh for $5.99.
