BBSAK

The ever so helpful BlackBerry utility BBSAK has received an update today which bumped it up to v1.9.2. While you may think the bump from v1.9.1 to 1.9.2 would be a minor one, it was actually a rather large update.  The first major feature addition was BlackBerry 7 support, so now you can utilize all the great BBSAK features on your new devices as well. Beyond adding BlackBerry 7 support they have rewritten the application to enhance speed and performance. The rewrite allowed them to remove sluggish code and replace it with more efficient and quicker ways to get things done. BBSAK is now available as a free download and, if you wish to support the developer and their cause, you can do so by donating to them on their site.

BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife

BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife (BBSAK) is a tool; just as a hammer and a thermonuclear reactor are tools. Placed in the wrong hands, they can cause destruction. Similarly, using BBSAK can render your BlackBerry inoperable. That being said, BBSAK is also a tool for fixing that. If you carefully - and I cannot stress that enough - follow instructions, it should always work properly for you. If you do not feel comfortable in poking and prodding the innermost guts of your BlackBerry, then BBSAK is not for you.

BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife is a Windows application (sorry Mac users) for controlling your device when BlackBerry Desktop Manager just isn't enough. It comes jam-packed with features designed to let you modify your BlackBerry in ways that the DM just wasn't created to do. Backup third-party apps, load alternate OS builds without the hassle of uninstalling and installing them from your computer, screen captures, and more. BBSAK really is an all-in-one tool; and it's completely free.

BBSAK version 1.9

If you haven't used BBSAK, it's desktop software used to perform a wide variety of tasks for your BlackBerry, replacing the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. With BBSAK you can wipe your device, backup/restore your applications, load new or old OSs (without uninstalling OS from your computer), and install and remove CODs. The application is one of the most handy if you install OSs frequently, and is very easy to use.

One of the biggest requests at BBSAK, was support for multiple languages. Now with version 1.9, you get support for 8 languages including English, Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Indonesian, and Spanish. They are also looking to expand to vietnamese, russian, and italian. So if you speak any of these languages, head over to their thread in our forums. This version of BBSAK also fixed a couple of minor bugs, including the collapse button bug. Their new website has also launched, since the last time we posted on them, and includes a button for direct download, no more mirrors :)

BBSAK v1.8

After a fairly long break from development, BBSAK (BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife) has been updated to version 1.8. The update brings with it some fixes as well as a few new features. If you aren't familiar with BBSAK, it is a desktop utility that allows you to do a ton of stuff for your BlackBerry like wipe, load a new OS, install CODs from your desktop, take screenshots and much more. In my use I have to say it's one of the best ways to salvage your device from the dreaded 507 error. Features include:

  • Wipe Blackberry leaving a 507 error
  • Reset Blackberry to factory state removing any IT Policy.
  • Take Screenshots of your Blackberry (Screenshots stored in My Pictures\BBScreenies)
  • Auto-Detects if phone is plugged in first
  • Displays PIN so you know your connected
  • Will not let you do any actions until phone detected
  • Load OS will auto delete Vendor.xml and start Loader.exe. (BBDM is needed for this)
  • Backup 3rd Party Apps
  • Restore 3rd Party Apps

Before installing v1.8 you'll need to remove any previous versions of the app. BBSAK is available free from the link below.
