BBC iPlayer

Currently you can watch programmes and radio shows on the BBC iPlayer by going to the iPlayer website from your BlackBerry. Now you have a weblink that allows you to launch the iPlayer website direct from your Home folder. Yes, you read that right, it’s not a dedicated app it’s more of a launcher that takes you to the iPlayer website. It makes it convenient if nothing else. Though I’m not sure if it would be any use to Torch owners as you can put a bookmark shortcuts on the Home screen that would effectively do the same thing. If you want to catch up on any BBC programmes or radio shows from the last 7 days then give it a try. It’s free and is already available from App World. However, do note that it is only available to users in the UK.

Dr. Who Rocks A Debranded BlackBerry Storm

The brand new Doctor Who series began the other day and while the eleventh Doctor, played by Matt Smith may or may not be a fan favorite across the board he's alright with us here at CrackBerry. Sure it could be his witty charm and wacky approach to things that made us like him but we're going with the fact that he's a BlackBerry user that won us over.

That's right, Dr. Who was spotted using a BlackBerry Storm during the episode, a debranded one no less. Ok, so maybe it was branded as a "BBC" but that's a fine line, in either case we all know it was a earth saving, multimedia messaging BlackBerry Storm. I just have to know what OS he was running or was he making use of some Dr. Who built hybrid? I mean, he did save the world with it.

BBC Content Going Mobile And Headed To BlackBerry

Yesterday, as Mobile World Congress was winding down Erik Huggers, BBC Director of Future Media & Technology held a keynote speech declaring the BBC was taking it's content to the smartphone market. Indicating that BBC users were also smartphone users and the BBC was dedicated to providing those users with the content they wanted on their mobile devices. Starting with the iPhone, the BBC will be releasing multiple applications including BBC News and BBC Sport among others.

The demo shown off was for the iPhone and will arrive in early April with the BlackBerry and Android versions to come later in the year. Huggers also sated that the BBC was also working on dedicated iPlayer applications as well which could deliver great video content but also made metnion that the iPlayer services are currently available now in a mobile optimized fashion of which, the BlackBerry 9700 and Storm 2 are supported for those in the UK. Great to see the BBC recognize the simple fact that mobile subscribers is massive I just hope they also realize that market lives beyond the UK and considers widespread releases.
