Backup Assistant Backup Assistant

Earlier this month Verizon pushed out its Backup Assistant to the Tour, and now it looks to be hitting Storm2 users as well. Over the last few days, users noticed the icon popping up in their devices. A quick click and it was installed and ready to go. The Backup Assitant is a no-frills app that backs up your contact data to Verizon's cloud. Its handy to have since you don't really have to think about it or do much at all to get it to work. I think the big advantage is for those users coming from a dumbphone toa BlackBerry, as it allows to easy contact transfer. If you're a Storm2 user you should see the icon on your homsecreen, but if not, you can try resending your service books or rebooting your device.

*Update: Looks like this may only be for the Tour as of now. More details as we find out. *

When it rains it pours. Verizon dropped both Push to Talk and an official Tour 9630 OS earlier today, and now it looks like they are pushing their Backup Assistant to devices as well. We heard a while back that the service was going to be heading to BlackBerry devices on Verizon, and although it didn't quite show up on schedule, its better late then never. Verizon users just need to take a look for the icon, and if its not showing sending the service books should do the trick. Once you have it up and running it will automatically backup your contacts and keep them safely in the cloud.

Backup Assistant

Verizon's Backup Assistant has long been the ideal app for backing up contacts from their devices. As far back as my old LG VX-8300, I can remember using the app to backup contacts for easy transfer between devices. Well the guys at BerryScoop have landed some intel and it looks like the service will finally be available for BlackBerry devices as well. While most "power users" will most likely stick to Desktop Manager, the Backup Assistant will surely help new users in backing up and getting their contacts off their old Verizon devices to a shiny new BlackBerry. Users will be able to both manually backup as well as set a backup schedule. From the looks of it, the app will be free for Verizon customers and should drop on March 9th. Head over to BerryScoop for some more images.
