Get set - Get up! for the BlackBerry PlayBook

Whenever I have an early start I have to set an alarm to wake me up, as I’m sure quite a lot of you do. I am also one for snoozing in the morning once I hear the alarm go off. Usually, I’ll snooze for about half an hour before I know I really should wiggle my toes, shake my legs and get up before I end up being late. Normally I’ll just use my BlackBerry alarm to do this but now I use Get set, Get up! for the BlackBerry PlayBook. Join me after the break to see how I rise and shine in the morning to this app.

Learn Chinese for the BlackBerry PlayBook

I’ve always been fascinated with certain languages, more so no that I’m older. Learning in school was boring and trying learn as an adult is a bit challenging, though I don’t think it needs to be. In the past I’ve picked up some of those books with CDs, those can be quite fun as takes you away from the boring, mundane business of learning grammar rules that you get taught in schools. Looking back at how I learned to understand and speak my parents native language (tagalog), I never had to write things down or learn grammar rules. Simply by listening to them have conversations or even speak to me, I would slowly pick up what certain words meant. At the beginning I didn’t necessarily know what the whole sentence meant word for word but I did understand what they were telling me. And I eventually learnt how to answer them back in tagalog as opposed to english. That takes me to the Learn series from S4BB. A few months ago I took a look at Learn French, this time I’ve been learning Chinese. Keep reading to take a closer look at the app.

"This app is very easy, I use it all the time. Photo Editor Extreme is one of the best photo apps out there for BB. Love it!" - Johaira1379 App World Review

Photo Editor Extreme app

I use my BlackBerry often to snap pictures day to day. I wouldn't call myself a photographer but I like to snap photos of my cats and anything interesting that catches my eye. I also like to try out photo editing apps. Whlie there are many to be found within App World, only a few stay on my device. One photo editing app I have found to be a favourite of mine is the popular photo editing app from Pepper.pk. The Photo Editor app has updated recently and has been improved to given a new name too. The update brings us to version 3 and is now called Photo Editor Extreme. It brings with it a few new features including Doodle and BBM integration.

I hate to say it, but I was never a big fan of the selection of the radio station back in my home town. There was probably one station that I actually liked. Everybody has a favourite station, but I think it was the lack of variety that made me feel as though I had to choose. I used to see what I could listen to online, and found a station in Vancouver that I liked, the Beat 94.5. After moving across the country a few years ago to the West Coast, I could then access it much more easily. Now of course I want to have even greater access, but without carrying too many devices. I want to be able to go out for a walk or jog and only have to carry my BlackBerry. Of course we all know about the many radio applications that are available.

While listening to the Beat, I learned of another option, the CHUM Radio application. It’s an interesting twist, as you have access to a selection of CHUM Radio stations, rather than being presented with potentially thousands of stations from around the world. Let’s tune in shall we?

Is time always on our side? Sadly, no. This is especially true when your daily routine is thrown a curveball by life itself. Some take these detours in stride, while others, not so much. Not everyone can handle life’s little, while managing their professional and personal schedules or appointments. The next thing you know, important events are forgotten and you begin to stress, as you strain to keep everything organized. Of course the first question to be asked is – why the heck haven’t you been using your BlackBerry to help you out?!

The BlackBerry calendar has done a fantastic job so far by reminding me of important appointments and such; though my wife tells me that I should use it more often. Don’t tell her, but I think she may be right. The problem I have, is that I typically input entries with such haste, that I tend to leave out information that I could make use of. The reason is because, as great as it is, I don’t necessarily see the native calendar set up to work how I would like it to be. The solution may be the Calendar Pro application. Let’s see if this “powerful time management system” is the answer.

Speed, thy name is BlackBerry. Whenever you want to go online, BAM, you’re there. Whenever you want to email someone, KA-POW, it’s sent. Whenever you want to make a phone call, ZOOM, you’re connected. Whenever you watch the 1960s Batman series, you’ll probably see BAM, KA-POW and ZOOM there as well. It’s understood that speed is addictive, as is your BlackBerry. For both addictions, the need for speed drives you to achieve even greater velocity. You want to find ways to get what you need with less effort and less time. You want to accelerate any processes in order to become more efficient, but don’t really want to put in any more work than you need to. Well what steps do you need to take to make things easier to access? What kind of shortcuts can you take? Let’s think about it for a second – what’s one of the first things you do when you want to make items easier to access on your computer? Create a desktop shortcut, right!

Iconify, is an amazing application that allows you to create quick access icons to websites and contacts that are easily found on your BlackBerrys home screen. Check out the review after the THWAP!
