AT&T Releases OS 4.6.0.304 for the BlackBerry Bold 9000 By Adam Zeis | 14 Nov 2009 12:56 |
Tips have been flying in and it looks like AT&T has released OS 4.6.0.304 for the BlackBerry Bold 9000. This isn't the grand 5.0 update we may have been waiting for, but an official OS update regardless. No word on the changes/updates in this version, but if you are still rocking an older OS version you may want to give it a go. Head over to the BlackBerry Software Download page to get going.

Perhaps I am missing something here, but hasn't this official OS been on AT&T's download page for quite some time (as in months)?
This has been out
How to upgrade this official OS?
No your prolly thinking of 517 this one just came out maybe 2 days ago .... boot time has noticable increased
and to upgrade go to
www.att.com/bbdownloads or throught desktop manager
I wish it would have been 5.0 upgrade, but it's still an upgrade I guess. I'm downloading it now. Anyone know what the changes are?
I updated a couple of days ago and had serious issues. I could not send e-mail or use any apps that required internet. It took an online session, 3 hours with AT&T support and finally Blackberry support to get it fixed. And I had to do 3 master wipes! And for what?
i've run into no problems with this update. i'll my apps seem to be working just fine. and i have a little bit more memory then the last ATT OS
Real old news
This was out on Thursday - at least it was on the BOLD forums.

I'm on .314...that's 5.0.0.314. :D 4.6 is dead.
bold sucks
Did you get a lemon? Mine is awesome.
I updated the software but could not see any changes, the bold is an awesome phone.
I always complete upgrades right away but I have no idea why I put myself through the process because I can never see any difference, as with this upgrade. What I do know is after every upgrade I have to spend literally hours and hours getting my applications to work again and restoring SplashId data since it appears Blackberry's desktop manager won't back up encrypted data. Why is it that after every load I have to re-input registration numbers for all the applications I have loaded. This is such a pain relative to how Apple upgrades their phones with a new OS release. After all these years I have the following questions:
1. Why are enhancements and bug fixes associated with a new OS release not published? It seems to be a mystery to everyone why we are upgrading
2. Why can't Blackberry desktop manager back up and restore ALL application data instead of just some. I.E. why can't it back up encrypted data? Bits are Bits aren't they?
3. Why does RIM make us spend hours re-entering application registration data and after the load of a new OS? Why isn't this data backed up and restored.
4. Why does RIM think everyone is a techie and can do this stuff. I can but most people who aren't technical would never figure all of this out.
Some things just never seem to change for RIM. I have been a dedicated Blackberry user for years and will continue to be in the future but sometimes ownership can be very very frustrating.
RIM, why can't you fix some of these things?
I agree. My biggest complaint is the profile settings, after each up date my profile settings vanish. The same with BerryBuzz and SmartAlerts. It is a massive pain in the you-know-what.
As to the encrypted data issue, I switched from SplashID to Ascendo DataVault and this is no longer an issue. Ascendo DataVault backs up and restore the data after an OS upgrade without a hitch. I had used SplashID for years but I came to the conclusion that they did not have much love for Blackberrys and made the switch, so far, so good. I have not tried v5 of SplashID and can't comment on whether this version has addressed UI issues as well as this backup issue.
Maybe some of that has to do with security RIM has built into the system. I know iPhones are easy to hack, and BlackBerrys are the most secure phones to have, which is why so many businesses issue them, as opposed to iPhones or other smartphones.
I've upgraded my Bold with no problem. It seemed a bit sketchy with archived apps when it first powered back up, but all is well now.
My phone is absolutely FLYING after the update.
it hit the wall, then it came to a complete stop....... I hate having to re-enter all of the registration codes........
Having BIS issues after the upgrade. Can't even log into BIS on my phone, keeps encountering a issue... I can do most data, but not all data. For instance, Browsers fine, connecting to anything using most apps, doesn't work. Can't use the CB App Mobile, App World, Facebook, IMs don't work either. TweetGenius works O.o
even version 5 doesn't bring as many features as we would like to see.
...another iteration of 4.6 is just that - RETARDED!
Common RIM! just get the V5 out the door.
I know it's too much asking for a Software Accomplishments Summary. Well, if not the SAS, at least a resolution list or some other form of changelog?
I think this update screwed up my phone. I stopped getting calls. the screen would show a missed call but it went straight to voicemail. I spent forever with Att thinking it was a system issue, i even erased all my apps and nothing so I went to the store and got another one, only for the same thing to happen again!! going again today for yet another phone but this time, I am NOT updating it. I think this has to be the issue...
My Bold seems to be running faster after this upgrade and my startup memory seems to be higher as well. Nice update but I am also awaiting the big OFFICIAL OS 5.0 update.
I did the update over the weekend and while the update went smooth, having to reinstall all my archived apps was slow! Some errored out, and I just moved on to the next app to reinstall and after a couple hours plus many many reboots I was back up and running like normal :)
my facebook app no longer works after i updated to this OS
After reading the frustration that many of post reveals, is there any word on the official OS 5 release?
My bold was one OS behind this one and it started getting the loading icon and freezing tonight while I was out and it started pissing me off so I came home and used the new Desktop manager 5 to install. After about 10 minutes my phone is back to exactly what it was before I plugged it into the computer and it doesn't leak memory like a mofo anymore. Lovin' it until a stable version of 5.0 comes out for the 9000 on AT&T! Thanks for teaching me everything about my berry!
