As reported earlier T-Mobile is now rolling out a new OS 10.1 update to users that includes Wi-Fi calling as well as a number of improvements and bug fixes. The update comes in at OS 10.1.0.4780 and is around 150MB so it shouldn't take long for most users to update. If you're on T-Mobile and haven't yet received the update you should be seeing it soon. You can always check manually by going to Settings > Software Updates.

After installing be sure to give your device a bit to kick in at it sometimes takes a while for the OS to get itself sorted.

T-Mobile now rolling out BlackBerry OS 10.1.0.4780

Why is the media and US carrier treating BBRY this way?

I heard there are government and huge cooperation doing this on purpose....

Conspiracy behind public eyes

Sexy White BlackBerry Z10

Guys, I have a question. How does this rollout square with reports of T-Mobile taking BB10 phones off the shelves? What am I missing?

Posted via CB10

They are still selling online, even if some stores are removing inventory. The phones haven't been discontinued.

Waiting for the update to complete. I'm looking forward to having WiFi calling back!

In the New York City area, TM is heavily advertising the Q10 along side the Z10.
Why would they remove a product from the stores if they advertise?
Sprint, one of TM's major competitors, is starting to roll out Q10.
Why would TM want to NOT provide a product that their competitor is adding to their line? Sprint has higher monthly cost.

A few days ago, some tech blogs had re-posted a forum post by a Crackberry member (ordinary folk like us, not CB staff). The post speculated removal from stores. The blogs got out of control on the rumor.

WiFi calling uses your voice minutes and messages from your plan. They are not a free add on.

According to the TM website :
BlackBerry OS 10.1.0.4780 (SW Release 10.1.0.4200) - Current version
Features
Adds Wi-Fi Calling functionality
Wi-Fi Calling allows you to send and receive calls and messages over a Wi-Fi connection.
Improvements
Improves device restarting during normal use
Resolves 4G displaying when switching access points

It's a free ad on for me and most T-Mobile BlackBerry users since we have free unlimited everything

Posted via CB10

1) It works if you travel international - free wifi calling
Call minutes get taken from contract calls - not international roaming rates.

2) It helps if you are in a TM roaming area, only have 'SOS' service, or have a bad TM network connection.

I can believe the rumor about T-Mobile pulling inventory. However, I would bet it's not all T-Mobile stores. It wouldn't surprise me if certain markets are not moving BlackBerry's at all, hence why they are sending inventory back.

I think the rumor is just being reported as a nationwide pulling of inventory rather than some stores and markets because it's not moving well there.

The info came from one manager in one store and one of those great analysts thought he would crap on BlackBerry, as they like to do, by trying to make the story bigger than it was.

I just bought my Q10 last week 06 Sept, from T-Mobile. I'd been to several T-Mobile places in NYC and most said they were not selling. Near Penn Station was told they don't sell anymore and they suggested I get another brand. In Chelsea they still had them out to see and play but said not selling anymore, by the manager. He then went on to tell me that many people had returned them because of rebooting. I told him yeah but that was early on when released and much of that had been fixed. He went on to say he and all he knew used to love Blackberry and used them but have switched...if I really wanted a keyboard I should switch. I still said no, I wanted a Q10 (upgrading from 9800). Another T-Mo rep flat out told me, they were being discontinued. Another in Chelsea (8th Ave/23rd) said that Blackberry was having problems with them and they were being recalled but they wanted to be hush about it. So I asked him then why are they still selling them online, and just suggested I get another phone. I said thank you and walked out.

But I knew where they had 1 just one left here near me in the Bronx from the day before and just hoped it was still there. So back I went and the rep remembered on Fordham. They still had it!
She set me up, was well versed...and when my phone pinged with a message the rep next to her asked it was her phone and she pulled out her personal phone which was a Q10.

She then went on to say, how she hadn't even used her G3 in weeks since getting the Q10 and texting and emailing was so much better and if I had any questions feel free to come back.

They still did however say they would not be restocking and I basically got the last BB10 phone!
Yaaaay...great bday gift to myself.

So later that day I walk out and get the update notice and to 10.1 I go.

Sorry for the long-winded example to get talking about 10.1. I'm just a happy camper and now looking at 10.2 what it will improve upon if I wait and don't try a leak since there are some things I would prefer to work now than later esp that pesky auto group text setting.

Same here, and now my Comcast email wont sync/connect. All my other emails (work, live, gmail) work fine though.

I am using 10.2. Do you guys know if they still gonna send me the update? and am i going to be able to do it from 10.2 to 10.1.0.4200?

Thats simple. The one i have was a leak with a few bugs with wificallin, and i think this new one is not supost to have the same kind of problem. By the way, i can always go back if i dont like it.

Since you are on 10.2, just go into BlackBerry World, look under T-Mobile Top Picks and download the "Wi-Fi. Calling app. Be sure to update your address under 911. Just call T-Mobile and have them add it (if you don't have one listed) it's much faster. Presto! Wi-Fi calling on 10.2.

Posted one-handed via BlackBerry Z10

Since you have a higher version you most likely won't get the update notification. You can downgrade from 10.2 but you won't be able to reload your setting from a 10.2 back up. You will get an 'incompatibility' error message.

Be sure to give the reboot process about 10 minutes. Mine sat on the "BlackBerry" Screen fro about 7 or more minutes before it finally booted up. Wifi calling feature is there and pretty cool. Enjoy! Thank you T-Mobile!

Cool to know. Because I am about to lose my mind staring at my Z10 doing nothing after the upgrade.

If you are on 10.2 you will not get the update. You have to do it manually. You can do it through the Blackberry Site, that is the most successful way I have had resetting my phone to carrier OS.

That is one of my questions. I am not sure if they kowing that i am on 10.2 they going still send me this update. I just checked, and no update so far

A little birdy told me 10.2 may be announced on the 12th, so I wonder how long the carriers are going to take to roll that out to us. Can't remember how long ago we got something like this as a leak.

BlackBerry Z10 | Verizon | 10.2.0.1371 | In Squircle We Trust

BlackBerry stated that 10.1MR wouldn't be out till end of summer in the US, and they had a staggered release globally for it. So it is obvious that the US carriers are getting release candidates later than other regions. They need to get their stuff together with future updates and devices and due true global releases like the big boys do!

Wtf... there's a notification to turn on wifi to use wifi calling and I can't get rid of it. it pops back up every few minutes no matter if the wifi is off, or on but not connected to a network.

I can't be on wifi at work because they block Gmail so I don't get any emails... how do I get rid of it???

Posted via CB10

I'd like to know how to turn the notification off as well. It alerts you when you are in range of a wifi network, when you leave that network, and when you connect to a network. JOY.

Under network connections, Wifi, saved connections click on advanced. At the top you can switch of the notification.

Posted via CB10 from my Awesome Hub enabled Z10

Thank you. This seems to have worked. At first it didn't stop the notifications, but then it started preventing them from popping up. It took a couple of minutes to sync up I guess.

Click on the home screen WiFi calling icon(that is the 'app' icon - not the one in the upper right corner of the screen)
Set options "WiFi calling" to OFF
all other options should dis-appear.
On the Desktop - upper right corner, the 'WiFi calling icon' will be gone until you reset the option.

Tmobile is actually a dutch or Germany company. They bought out a couple cell carriers in the us to start Tmo USA.

Hope SaskTel gets this update or when 10.2 comes out they won't take 2 months to bring it out. Dam you Socialist SaskTel

I hated wifi calling on my bold. Every time i left the house it would drop my call. If this is the only update I'll wait and easy into that pain when 10.2 comes out

Posted via CB10

Let me fix that up. Instead of switching to my network the call would just drop. It happened every time it was so annoying especially when in on an important and I have to leave my house. If i took the wifi off it still drop the call if I'm in the middle of it.

Posted via CB10

That was a limitation in The 9900 hardware. It didn't allow for UMA so you could only go from carrier to WiFi not Wifi to carrier. Don't know if this is the same. My guess is yes as they are not calling it UMA but Wifi calling.

Posted via CB10

That's exactly how software based WiFi calling is supposed to work. Hand-offs between WiFi and carrier networks happen only on hardware based WiFi calling aka UMA. UMA sadly seems to be a disappearing feature. AFAIK, the 9780 was the last phone with UMA, and all OS7 phones had WiFi calling (if that.)

WiFi calling had that limitation. It was software based and didn't have the ability to hand off a WiFi call to the cell network and vice versa. Only UMA had this ability and many of the older BB phones had it. I believe the 9900 was the first BB to use WiFi calling and while it worked well it wasn't able to hand off calls. Anyway, I need this feature since I'm in a dead zone (Rogers!) and when I head up north I only have WiFi and no cell reception.

Yeah, the UMA feature on my 8900, 9700 and 9780 were great. My 9900 though only offered the Software wifi calling. It still works great though. I found it handy for travling to say Scotland and using the feature while near wifi to call family and friends without having to worry about international roaming. Still works and as long as you know the limitations it still a great feature to have.

Well, I have tried this new TMOBILE app, and to my surprise while talking on Wifi calling, one you leave your Wifi source it automatically switches over to 4G without dropping the call like the previous UMA calling... I like it!

Posted via CB10

Let me clarify, not sure what the system was officially called on the 9900, but it sucked. Would always drop your call or would notify you by an annoying beep if your Internet signal got weak. This new app does not do that, in fact, you can now send and receive text messages through this app! This will be great traveling abroad.

Posted via CB10

Mine sat on the boot screen for well over 20 min, did a battery pull to see if it will fix it and nope it did the same.
So don't panic if the screen is taking long to boot to the UI. Wifi calling is finally here

After updating my Z10...the phone recognizes the SIM Card...after several minutes now the phone does not recognize the SIM - removing and inserting the SIM Card will make work again, but the problem will come up shortly after.

Does it say anything about a MEP lock? If so, reboot your phone a couple of times, and that doesn't work, contact customer service.

Got the notification a few minutes ago and it has downloaded and is installing. Really been missing the WiFi calling as am sometimes in areas/rooms with great WiFi and NO cell coverage (any carrier) and really like being the only person in the room with a working cellphone. Have converted some business associates to T-Mobile just on this selling point. There are times when WiFi calling is a HUGE benefit.

I ran that os as a leak and had no issues. Loved Wifi calling but the pros to 10.2 are better for me.

Posted via CB10

I'm having the same problem, I can not text.. I downloaded the wi-fi app!!! I'm on, 10.2.0.1371

Posted via CB10

I had the same problem. I I took the battery out and force a hard restart and my SMS texting returned.

Please help me with a couple of questions:

1. When did you guys at T-mobile get the previous update (10.1.0.4181)? I'd like to estimate when this new release will be available for thee SEA region.

2. Has anyone experienced missing sms/text messages upon this upgrade as some have with the 10.1.0.4181?

Thank you!

Posted via CB10

Well, i got my q10 month ago from tmobile and it came with 10.1.0.4181 preinstalled out the box, I heard all q10s were released with 10.1.0.4181, I never had any issues with texts, and did this new update today, so far had zero problems.

I have had no issues other than the calendar changing from white print on black background to black print on white background which I really don't like and can't figure out how to change back

TMOBILE is awesome! Finally my WIFI calling is back! I travel internationally an awful lot on vacation and this definitely shines over others. When I am out of he country and someone calls me, they always say that I sound very clear and not 10,000 miles away! I'm good...

Posted via CB10

Loaded and looks good. Finally get to use WiFi calling...EXCEPT...it does not work. Gives me an error REG99. WTH!? running a Z10 that was on build 2006, no leaks loaded, no side loaded apps.

Tried on two different WiFi connections; one which is a secure work WiFi and another one that just requires logging in via an html page. It had better work at home, otherwise TMO is out the door. WiFi calling was one of the major factors in my selection of TMO. Been waiting all summer, with weak to no cell coverage at home, just for this feature.

Posted via CB10

Me too. I was getting error ER02, DNS error when it was turned on, and now I get REG99, cannot connect, after having tried to place a call.

Posted via CB10

If you do not have a E911 address on file, you cannot use wifi calling. You can call customer service to fix it, or update it online.

yes I received a notification for os update, but it is not 10.1.0.4780, what I received is 10.1.0.4181..why is that the update I received is different version?

Posted via CB10

I actually Just got 10.1.0.4200 and it was advertised as "new and updated with wifi calling". It was 162 MB.

This is on T-Mobile (US)

T Mobile USA here in Arizona sent out a Notifications.
I am on 10.2 so when you check Software Update it tells you "Your have the latest software."

Posted via CB10

I have 10.2.0.1047 and Wifi calling working, but I didn't have the Wificalling app yet. I just downloaded the app but it doesn't turn off or on the wificalling.

Loaded update and running great. I made my first ever WiFi call already! Thanks T-Mo! Extra glad that Sprint bailed on me now.

Z10 on T-Mobile, 32 GB PlayBook - Posted via CrackBerry 10

If i could get the WIFI calling notification to stop alerting me even though my WIFI is off, I would say this update had no issues.

Posted via CB10

I am currently on T-Mobile Z10 with a leaked version of (10.2.0.210)

So in order for me to get this tmobile roll out what should I do. I checked for updates and it says I have the latest version.

You can downgrade to a lower version using the autoloader method and then you will be prompted to update to the latest official OS during the initial phone setup.

Read my reply on page one. All you're really missing from 10.2 is Wi-Fi calling.

Posted one-handed via BlackBerry Z10

Well, not exactly. When I use the leaked version My mobile hotspot stopped working. So my hope was to install the official update so the hotspot would work again. Not exactly sure how to downgrade.

It showed as 170MB and took maybe 45 mins total on my 50Mb wi-fi. You might want to call TMo.

Posted via CB10

I also have a Q10 on the older 10.1, so that might be the reason for the size difference.

Posted via CB10

Just got my update installed, I noticed WiFi calling and tutorial app. Any other hidden gems/features?

Posted via CB10

Started downloading 10.1.4200 144MB T-Mobile USA

Update:

It's running good so far; I should mention a few things I noticed.

1. Make sure (for some) to reboot after update restarts and runs for a few minutes. A couple things did not function properly until second reboot. I usually do this regardless after any update.

2. Email accounts had to be updated

3. Wi-Fi calling works good, I tried it twice.

4. New tutorial app icon.

5. Boot time shows again.

6. Hub seems a bit snappier.

7. When on a phone call and minimizing or scrolling through app grids, that damn jitter/lag happens. This was verified by a friend who noticed this as well; guess we will see after a couple days...

Good to see an update though! Of course there are always OS leaks which I'm sure many us have tried already.

Hooray, just turned off the WIFI setting on Home screen and I stop receiving the WIFI notifications, Thanks!

Posted via CB10

Anyone out there know if it is possible to somehow get the Wi-Fi calling feature activated on 10.2.0.1443 leak?

Loving the latest 10.2 update. Hate that I would have to "downgrade" to 10.1 update just to get the Wi-Fi calling activated...

So i updated the OS, i see the wifi calling option but its greyed out too.
Am wondering if everyone had to contact tmobile to enable this feature.

Good: I can now get more than 90 days of Gmail e-mail (Forever is now an option).

Bad: Most saved photos are not appearing. I think it has something to do with my media card encryption. I will try restarting and turning off encryption.

Update completed. I think start-up is way faster (though after the progress bar stopped, the phone seemed to hang...maybe due to upgrade tasks completing?), but the hub takes forever to load (maybe was due to email accounts needing to be reauthenticated, but I'll see going forward).

Wi-fi calling icon is alive and well. Haven't really tested yet, but definitely glad to have it back! RIP UMA, but I'll take what I can get.

Posted via CB10

Did not have to activate wi-fi calling by the way. It was turned on and operational once the phone booted.

Posted via CB10

Just updated, took me only 30 min, runs smooth, love the change to black theme in the hub settings. Update was easy, Thanks tMobile!

Nice packaging. The best I have seen for BB although not premium as iPhone and S4. People in Waterloo still need to travel more to other parts of the world - the sky is definitely larger than the well top.

Can someone advise what additional features were in the software update.
I had to call Tm to get the wifi feature turned on that gives one undmeterederred calling.

Also, getting mixed response on free international calling. Some say yes, others no. I placed a call to UK from US and it does not show up in log

Alffidler@yahoo.com

Would be much appreciated. Alf

Posted via CB10

I have an add on that will not reduce my minutes when calling over wifi. This was confirmed with two reps with T-Mobile.

I'm guessing if T-Mobile removes the z10 from stores it would most likely be in areas where sales are minimal

Posted via CB10

I just updated and so far it works pretty well with the WiFi calling. What I have noticed though that annoys the hell out of me is on my notifications I've noticed that several apps will notify me with the red star and will not go away even after opening the app...so far has only been CB10 and my Score. Urg!

Posted via CB10

Did anybody else have the calendar change from what on black to black on white with this update? My q10 did and I can't figure out how to change it back? Any help?

Posted via CB10

Updated about an hour ago. Maybe it's just me, but the screen seems much clearer/sharper now.

Posted via CB10

BlackBerry icon in the top right corner of the screen not showing up...BIS I guess is what it is. won't send my bbm messages unless Connected to wifi...i have full bars on LTE. Won't recognize my headphones when I try to make a call so the sound comes thru the handset not the headphones. ... BUT i do have wifi calling. I'm in near DC anyone know of any outages or anyone having Any bugs?

Posted via CB10

Installed it. Now -
1. Can't get rid of the notification that I received a message (even after reading it)
2. Previous Messages deleted
3. Can't send any messages now
4. Wifi calling notification that won't go away

Edit: *UPDATE*

Give it a few minutes and everything works fine now *I did nothing besides watch some tutorial*. :D

Any fixes?

My update went very smooth. Calling and texting via wifi calling work like a champ.

I like the fact that my free storage changes from 9.1 gb before update to 9.7 gb after.

Cheers

Posted via CB10

Battery pull to complete the uninstall, reinstalled, on off is still grayed. Anybody have any suggestions? Really HATE to do a factory restore...sigh.

How do I turn off the 'wifi calling' notification? It's no where in the settings menu.

Posted via CB10

So much for "wifi working like a champ". My wifi calling dropped off even though wifi is still working on computer and playbook. WTH T-Mobile??

Posted via CB10

Wow. Hub compiles in less than a minute after a reboot, now. This is compared to about 5 minutes before the update.

Posted via CB10

I keep getting the wifi calling notification as well as unread sms (all messages have been read, even deleted them). Already done 2 battery pulls.

Also, why did I get the .4200 release?!

T-Mobile update keeps stalling the opening of my text messages. - slightly irritated lol

Posted via CB10

So I've done a battery pull, app delete/install and a complete factory restore and I'm still receiving the error DNS code (oh I also spent two hours on the phone with T-Mobile and BlackBerry tech support). Any suggestions?

Posted via CB10

So far update is awesome with no bugs to report. Can't wait for the official 10.2.

Posted via CB10

The DNS error may be based on your own access point that you are connecting to. Have you tried to reset the router, or are you trying on a corporate connection? I've seen those be a little unstable in the past.

I got the crappy 4200 update. Wifi notification still irritating and text messages are buggy - I'll give it a week till I loose it and bite the forbidden fruit. Just received my replacement phone yesterday. Prior to my replacement phone, I was dealing with resets whenever I'd place my phone on my desk.... Smh

Posted via CB10

Theres barely any reviews on q10 at tmobile site- I think some of us who has Tmobile q10 should spread the word and write some reviews at Tmobile.com ... It doesn't requare registration- Just leave your good/ bad honest review- spread the word!!!

Wifi calling ! battery life when wifi calling turned on and network and data turn off dropped 20% in one hours time.

Mine was 4200? Oh and it took two and a half hours for my phone to restart. Took 15 minutes first and just froze at 100% for about another 15 and then I held down the power button, it restarted and took literally two hours to turn back on. I WENT TO DINNER AND CAME BACK AND IT STILL WAS ONLY ON 70%. Once it turned on, hub took another abnormally long time to turn on. Oh and then I had to re enter all my passwords and delete and re ad my email accounts off my vps.

Posted via CB10

the Q10 is an amazing phone and truly the only real one handed phone out there today.to get rid of the icon in the top right corner ( for wifi calling), hit the icon for wifi calling on your home screen, you will see the on and off setting there.

Anyone else experience quicker battery drain since the update?? I currently have WiFi calling set to Cellular Preferred. I even tried turning wifi calling completely off. Battery seems to be going down much faster than before the update - no other changes in settings or use. Please advise.

No battery drain here. I am experiencing great battery compared to the previous version. Text is quicker than before. Finding a few changes that are welcome. I will list them later. No time right now. Enjoying my Z10.

Posted via CB10

Thanks. Everything is fine now... experienced battery drain and heating up for the first day. Did a bttery pull the next day and all is fine. All good with my Z10!!

I am on Tmobile, i did not receive any uptade, my current OS is 10.1.0.4181, i checked for update i was told that i ve the latest sofware. Please how can i get the update?

Posted via CB10

I can't wait for the 10.2 and this cross platform to kick off. Man are they taking forever!!!!!!! For these releases

Posted via CB10

Hi, I attempted to update my Z10 and on the install it has not moved past 33 MB. It has been 24 hours since trying to upgrade to release 10.1.0.4200. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I need to do to remedy this? I can make calls but I can't open any apps or email. Please help, I'm facilitating a conference call on Sunday and I can't access my notes or contacts.

I have been running the update since the release day and have to disable And re enable my wireless connection to start getting data again. Did not have this problem prior to update.

Posted via CB10

I big dated mine but i have this super annoying alert/notification telling me to connect to a network to use wifi when the radio is off or one of my saved networks is not within range. Super annoying

Anyone now how can I get 10.1.0.4200 in my unlock z10. I am a Tmobile US customer but since my z10 is unlock I don't get the upgrade.
