AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9700

AT&T is finally rolling out the BlackBerry Bold 9700 today. Only caveat at this time is that it's currently only available to business customers. The forums are filling up with users stating they have gotten emails from their business account reps announcing the availability. The device is now also showing up on their Premiere site for ordering.

If you have a consumer account, the wait is almost over as well. November 22nd is the general availability date for all non business purchases of the device and as we have seen you can expect to pay $199.99 for this beauty with a new 2 year contract.

Finally! I've been patiently waiting for it to officially drop on AT&T! I've been talking with various AT&T Rep's about it (who always seem to be clueless) because I've been wanting to test out the trackpad! I currently have the Curve 8900. Looking at all the specs of the Bold 9700, there isn't a lot of reasons to switch (because they're almost the same) but my girlfriends been wanting a BlackBerry so I'm gonna get the new Bold and give her my Curve! Thank you RIM & AT&T!!! :)

How can they offer this device for so cheap? When the 9000 came out, it was close to $300! Any reasoning for this?

By: cjford78 | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 10:52

It's a price match to T-Mobile's offering... they don't want customers to jump ship!

By: sk8er_tor | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 11:05

You guys in the US are lucky. This same device sells in Canada on the Rogers network for $499 on a 2-year contract and $299 on a 3-year contract.

By: alloutz | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 21:56

I got it when it first came out, and I paid $400+tax....

By: boostieboy | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 10:37

Mine's on the way :)

By: Propa | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 10:40

Thank God! Its about time! I've been waiting on this one for quite some time. I love my 9000 but I'm so ready for the 9700. I have an upgrade coming up soon so that's when I'll make the move. But at least I can have OS 5.0 til then :-)

By: TVMAN92 | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 10:41

Guess I'll just have to wait until the 22nd! Best Buy - WATCH OUT

By: trixnrice | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 10:41

weeeeeeeeee!

By: TrkStr | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 10:52

I'd love to get one of these now but the outright price to buy one was $749 on the site. Looks like I'm gonna have to keep waiting.

Call and talk to Premier CS. I just called and talked to them and they hooked me up with an early upgrade. Got my order processed and the phone will be here tomorrow.

By: Snipes | Date: Tue, 11/17/2009 - 13:10

Yea on the Premier site with my upgrade I'd only be paying $300.

By: kenguy | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 10:58

I just logged into my premier account and it shows that it will be $299. How do I get the $199 price?

By: moopenguin32 | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 11:03

I logged into my premier account and also see it listed for $299. Maybe they offer a $100 mail-in rebate and it just isn't showing up as such on the website.

By: ugahairydawgs | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 11:29

MIR

By: captobie | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 14:25

My Premier account shows $299 and no rebate available.

By: captobie | Date: Tue, 11/17/2009 - 09:31

Glad I didn't jump on the deal yesterday for $299. It shows as $174 this morning. Woo-hoo!

By: Big Dawg 23 | Date: Tue, 11/17/2009 - 12:33

Mine shows $299 with $100 MIR Card.

By: Dragondima | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 11:15

I just did a backflip at work. Ok maybe i didn't, but i'm really excited! I can't wait to get my hands on this. I've been contemplating this phone for a few weeks now. The major benefit is the battery life, size, camera, and trackpad. It has less onboard memory, and no wifi 802.11a. So it's nice, but is it really worth it?

By: magredvet | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 11:17

I just ordered through my Premier account as well and saw $299.00 I still bought it though. I remember somwhere there will be a $100 rebate??????

There seem to be a lot of internal issues abotu the pricing. Diffrent parts of the site say different prices, and different reps are giving diffrent prices. The range in 299-750.

So WAIT a few hours at least befor etrying order or you might get screwed.

By: bertd1 | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 11:24

what is the price supposed to be?? im seeing $299 on the website

By: six2one | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 11:44

no commit is SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS!

that is batshit insane for this phone

however 200 subsidized price is reasonable (i hate rebates though)

*edit* i dont think it qualifies for rebate if you buy it through business unless it says it has a mail in rebate as per this:

By: phenyx923 | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 11:45

soooo exciting! i hope CS will give me an early upgrade!!

By: Bob G | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 11:51

For a few months, I've been considering which phone will replace my Curve 8310. It was a hard choice between the Storm 2, HTC Imagio, HTC Tilt, iPhone, and Bold 2. I tried out a Storm 1 and an HTC Pure, but in the end, I opted for the superior functionality of the keyboard (especially shortcuts) over the beauty of the large touch screen. The 9700 has the most features in the lightest package, and I don't have to give up my AT&T rollover minutes.

I'm excited to start using it.

By: jonholmes | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 12:13

I can't wait till the 22nd, it's going to be like Christmas morning!

By: eolthoff | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 12:35

So I just called at&t to se if they would price match the 9700 with T-mobile's $199 deal and the lady on the phone told me they don't price-match. I also asked about the mail-in-rebate and she told me that unless it shows up for your phone in the cart when you go to check out it won't be there (supposedly it will print out with your reciept). Not sure what do next, might have to wait till next week.

By: mwender | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 12:58

I did the same thing, and the guy I talked to at AT&T said he couldn't even see the 9700 in his system to check on a rebate for me. So I guess I'll wait to see what happens, next week, but this might be where I get on the T-Mo bandwagon.

By: mwender | Date: Tue, 11/17/2009 - 10:00

The $100 mail-in rebate started showing up on my Premier site, last night. (I had been checking it periodically, waiting for Premier to specifically state "$299 - $100 MIR") Picked it up for $317.99 up-front. Here is the rebate language:

$100 Mail-in Rebate via AT&T Promotion Card for BlackBerry® Bold(TM) 9700 with 2 year agreement and qualified voice and data plans. Additional restrictions apply.
Requires a 2 year service agreement with activation on an AT&T voice plan with a Monthly Service Charge (MSC) of $39.99 or higher plus either (i) a Blackberry Personal Plan with MSC of $30 or higher; (ii) a Blackberry Enterprise plan with MSC of $45 or higher; or (iii) BlackBerry International plan of $64.99/mo. or higher. See Phones & Devices link above (under Premier Store tab) for device pricing. Offer cannot be combined with any other equipment promotion, discount or other offer. FamilyTalk Add-a-Line and Secondary lines are not eligible for discounts. Subject to availability limitations. Sales tax calculated based on price of unactivated equipment. Limited time offer. Offer runs until Saturday, November 21, 2009 11:59pm PST.
AT&T Promotion Card may only be used in the US and is valid for 120 days after issuance date. The card may be used to pay wireless bills. It is not redeemable for cash and cannot be used for cash withdrawal at ATMs, nor can it be used to purchase gas at automated gas pumps. Complete and mail the Mail-in Rebate form along with the additional requested materials to receive your rebate. Allow 60 days for fulfillment. Card request must be postmarked by 12/21/09 and you must be active on service for a minimum of 30 consecutive days and until the rebate is processed to receive card.

Typical AT&T. Do they ever do anything in a professional way?

By: BB_Newbie50 | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 12:55

Spoke to a premier rep, the rebate department, and the store. Unless your premier website shows the rebate you will not be eligible and can't use the form in the store either. Premier pricing is different and that's why even the non upgrade price is $749.99.

By: eolthoff | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 13:08

I ended up ordering it online anyway. The upgrade came to about $334 dollars. It is not as big as a deal for me since my company is paying for the upgrade. I just wanted to let the know people who can order early, what to expect.
Thanks for everyone's input.

By: beforewespark | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 13:26

My At&t rep sent me some pricing. There will be promo pricing running soon that the device will be $175 (same as the 9000).

Then when the promo is over (1/31/10) the price will be $199.

By: zee921 | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 13:40

Mine will be here tomorrow.

By: tnewton3 | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 13:41

I was able to order the phone and didn't becuase if you don't wait until the 22nd they don't have a rebate attached. The girl I talked to was very knowledgeable and only saw the rebate attached to the 9000 not the 9700. You may be able to complain loud enough and get taken care of but I may just wait to upgrade in store and get the rebate.

By: ugahairydawgs | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 14:23

If they try to stiff me on the rebate I will just take it into the store, return it, and turn around and re-purchase it.

By: ipodlover77 | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 14:23

Wow 750 non contract. Forget that bs.

By: Florida Phil | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 14:30

I don't know how ATT runs...no one there knows anything about the 9700 and Premiers system is down. If it wasnt for the fact we have 2 Iphones on our Account I would be over at T-mobile in a heartbeat....I actually hate ATT.

By: kwues | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 14:50

Ordered from Premier this morning, $299 - $100/Loyalty Advantage Discount Instant - $100 Rebate Instant/applied to acct. = $99 , should arrive Wed. FedEx tracking good to go, no complaints here :)

By: DearFloyd | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 15:13

My premier account is showing $299 as well. I'm not seeing the $700+ that everyone else is seeing. Ill think it over before ordering though.

By: sundevils99 | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 22:10

How did you get the Loyalty Advantage Discount? Did you order online or via phone? If phone, what number did you call?

Thanks.

By: Burzlurker | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 14:54

does that mean that RIM/ATT is going to release 5.0 for the rest of us who cant afford to get the new bold right now? That seems to be what verizon did. as soon as the storm 2 came out the storm users could upgrade to os5. does that mean all us 9000 users will be able to upgrade our os on sunday?

By: Kaptain75329 | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 15:28

Not sure why you would think this. Verizon and AT&T are two completely separate companies and review OS versions for their devices according to their own unique testing methods.

I wish we could get 5.0 official for the 9000 soon, but it's just not looking that way. It's looking more and more like we'll see the update later on. I keep hearing January, but that's a rumor like any other with no basis in hard facts. That the latest leak for the 9000 hosed AT&T devices is not an especially good sign that we'll be seeing builds with compatible platforms for AT&T's network any time soon, but one can hope. :)

Right there with you though, OS 5 looks sweet, and I think it can't get here soon enough. But it'll take time. Whatever AT&T's faults, they approve solid builds for their BBs.

By: boiseit | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 16:19

Two 9700's on upgrade qualified out of contract lines on our business accout. I called in and got a price of $174.99 out the door with overnight shipping. No MIR.

By: kenguy | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 17:00

Chatting with ATT now...still quoting me the $299 price.

By: ugahairydawgs | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 17:11

Guy I talked to on the phone said the rebate will be in the box with the phone.

By: kenguy | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 17:22

Lady I talked to said the business price was $330 (which makes little sense) and the corp sponsored price was $299 and has been all day, so I guess I'm waiting.

I'm not sure I trust that the rebate form will be in the box...maybe I'll wait to see if anyone else gets a form.

By: jzarowitz | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 17:28

order placed... 299$ + 14.95 shipping... i didnt have access to an upgrade, and i dont get a rebate... not a bad price. she also offered it to me for $385 (45% off $700 as part of my business discount)

By: gbeebe | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 19:29

When I first looked at the site, it said $749.99 on the page with all of the phones.

Once clicking on it, it showed up as $299.99 with no upgrade. That's where I stopped, because I still want to check the in-store price.

Think they have any in-store phones for business users?

On another note... At least AT&T used the correct picture for the phone lol.

By: trixnrice | Date: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 20:13

i have a premier account and i talked to a cs rep, as he stated that i am still eligible for mail-in rebates. this is the way it should be anyways. there's no way att would stiff premier customers. as most premier accounts state they would honor the best available deal, whether its the specific % discount off equipment or the best promo at the time. dont worry about it ppl.
