Symple ID is a username and password storage app that we reviewed back in August. It makes use of the NFC feature of BlackBerry devices. A simple tap on your NFC tag will log you into your accounts. I have continued to use Symple ID as my main password app on my BlackBerry 10 smartphone. I still use Lastpass as I always have but I didn't renew my license to be able to use the mobile app as I thought I would just Symple ID since I have a license for the service. I like that it uses NFC too.

Symple ID has just received an update to v1.4.2.1, with a couple of new features:

  • Enhancements to initial launch functionality. Upon initial launch a check for a live connection (mobile or Wi-Fi) is performed and the user is notified if none is present.
  • Offline access to stored accounts has been added to allow user to "tap to show" or "tap to copy" stored credentials even in the event that live data connection isn't available.

Offline access is definitely useful and I look forward to seeing more new things come about. If you haven't seen the app in action yet and may be interested in the service you can head over to our hands-on review of Symple ID. It is available for all BlackBerry 10 smartphones and is free to download. However, to use the app you do need a license which is charged annually.
