My personal favorite BlackBerry 10 YouTube app, SuperTube, has been updated this week and with it brings a bunch of enhancements as well as a few wee fixes. Although the new additions to the app are not huge, it's another perfect example of an app developer striving to make the 'Built for BlackBerry' app as awesome as possible.

With no native YouTube application for BlackBerry 10 (although the browser does a great job), SuperTube offers that native BlackBerry 10 feel with the option for a beautiful dark theme - which I love. The app is available for all BlackBerry 10 devices and is free to download for the basic features. Give it a go if you haven't already and let us know what you think?

  • Added a new handy way to list author and related videos inside the video player. Added buttons for video info, related and author channel videos within the video player that lets the user choose which to play. The current video player list is not modified by the chosen video.
  • Categories are now listed on the bottom left menu
  • Replaced stars value for video with green/red percentage bar for likes/dislikes
  • Added possibility to open author channel from comments
  • Recent featured, trending, top rated and top favorites YouTube specification now point to Most Popular
  • Unlisted videos are now available in user uploads (not private)
  • Fixed listings of private playlists
  • Some fixes in the dark UI theme
  • Fixed request for author channel link within playlist, favorites and watch later lists

Yes super tube allows for music to loop in active frame and be able to preload 50mb of videos or one video if it is greater than 50mb (I preloaded a 300mb in HD once and watched it on the train on my way home)

Now fast tube just updated to include music playing in active frame probably due to losing users to super tube. Though fast tube does have a neater UI

Even the free version is great. Just the 50MB pre-load limit is a bit low.

Does the paid one have a higher one?

Zzzzwiped from a Zedevice....

Paid version allows you to go into the settings and reserve up to 8000Mb of memory for preloading.

I don't think Crackberry is bad for it if they practice this, but I don't think ANY publication is above a little favoritism or showing some more spotlight to products whose developers... persuaded them.

Crackberry has mentioned FastTube a lot in the past, just because they don't cover every app update doesn't mean they're biased. That's like saying that I ate a salad yesterday and a steak today, so now I don't like vegetables.

I have both apps (Fast and Stereo, both paid versions), and both are very close to each other in functionality.

I find Fasttube a bit easier to use and better looking (stereo has one of the worst icons and splash screens I've seen). But stereotube has just a smidgen more functions.

It's really close. You'd be happy with either.

Nice to seem StereoTube still gets mentioned. I'll update the app very soon with new icon, splashscreen and some improvements. For listening music on YouTube, nothing beats StereoTube :)

You put SuperTube in the wrong category. Should be in Apps, you put it in Accessories.

I used my Q10 to create this CrackBerry madness!

SuperTube is the best hands down. I swear by it and the paid version is worth being able to sign in to your account. It's worth noting that SuperTube bypasses video restrictions on videos not set up for mobile devices. Developer communication is outstanding and he really looks out for Q10 users too. Buy it!

I'm also a Super tube pro user and I like it. But I was playing with my friend's Nexus 5 and the latest Youtube app was also very cool, specially the gestures and minimized videos. I didn't try to side load it but I hope it works.
I also had a great experience with their support.

I love debs who give BB10 users a choice of which theme they will use, instead of going along with the mistake that was "Light only for Z10, dark for everyone else" mentality... It's not overly difficult to do.

When can we see this as a choice in CB10?

SuperTube is also my favorite YouTube app. Great functionality and ease of use. I tried FastTube and didn't like it. StereoTube didn't offer a free version and I was too uncertain to gamble on buying it so, I cannot speak for StereoTube outside of saying I have head mixed reviews (mostly good though).

I used the free version of SuperTube for the longest and loved it before making the purchase. I love it even more and the developer is good for taking feedback and making updates accordingly. There have been multiple updates since the last CrackBerry write up about it.

FastTube, really had a better interface. For the rest, it is the same. I like FastTube. And by way, is it me or does bbworld had more than 1 good app for YouTube? Wow, there's choice! Good for us.

Have a nice day

I may be a bit dense, but not having much success getting the video to play horizontally on my Z30. If anyone has figured this out please let me know. Thanks.

On the phones home screen swipe down from the top bezel which will drop the Quick Menu and make sure Rotation Lock is off.

I used the full FastTube app for a long time. It's cleaner than SuperTube but lacks some features.

I didn't like the clutter of SuperTube at first but then saw how many features it had and decided to buy it. The next day this update came out which added some nice bits.

They are both super nice apps in my view and I'll be swapping my YouTube usage between them over them months !

I still like fasttube more, it just looks cleaner. Both work perfectly for my needs but I've been using fasttube for a while now and I couldn't get over how cheesy the Supertube icon and specially the splash screen looked.

Nice to see he changed the UI per my suggestions, the Dev actually asked me questions of what should change and that he had not received any input on how he should make the app look better, he said he was going to change it to how I said and BAM! Its cool to see.

In the left menu there is a "Local video" entry. Just long tap on a video, share it choosing the native YouTube upload app.
