Verizon and Sprint will pay 58 million to settle FCC billing complaint charges

Verizon Wireless and Sprint will pay a combined total of $158 million to settle billing complaint charges filed by the Federal Communications Commission. Under the terms of the settlement, Verizon will pay $90 million, while Sprint will have to spend $68 million, for a total of $158 million. At least $120 million of the total amount will go to reimbursing consumers hit with the charges.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has announced that the city has reached a deal with Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile to bring 4G LTE from all four carriers to the Chicago Transit Authority's subway system. After announcing a promotion Tuesday that would cut the bills of AT&T's and Verizon's customers in half if they switch to Sprint, the wireless carrier admitted that the net savings is only closer to 20 percent rather than the 50 percent that it is marketing. Sprint has signed agreements with 12 carriers to expand the LTE footprint of everybody involved. The dozen carriers, all smaller regional and rural networks, cover 34 million Americans not touched by Sprint's fledgling LTE network. The roaming agreements will expand Sprint's LTE coverage into those areas, as well as giving those carriers access to Sprint's network.
