Double suhhhweeeet!!! Look who also launched their BlackBerry Tour website, guess they didn't want to be left out of the party. The two big CDMA carriers in the United States will be launching the much awaited BlackBerry Tour this summer!
The BlackBerry Tour will be available at Sprint stores, www.sprint.com and 1-800-Sprint1 later this summer for $199.99 with a new line of service or eligible upgrade, two-year service agreement and $50 instant rebate and $100 mail-in rebate. Additional savings may be available to business customers through their Sprint account manager.
As well as Sprint joining the party RIM themselves have set up their own BlackBerry Tour page which can be found at BlackBerry.com.
Good stuff. I know Jeff has been waiting for this to go with his Pre! Hehe.
This is great news
yep finally my smartphone team in reborn. Used to be iphone/bold now i left shitty ATT for sprint new team Palm pre and bb tour i can't wait already signed up for the email.
I think I'm the only one that think NY has great coverage. Never had less than full strength. You aren't the first to say that either.
Cool. Bout time they get something really good. Tour's going to be excellent!
So, the info link has them selling the Tour at $199 after all the rebates and such...will Verizon be the same? I hope so.
I knew good ol' sprint was gonna come thru...
well, I don't know if I want to wait for the driftwood now..
Great news!
It's about time!
signed up.. i was looking at AT&T (again) and thinking how nice it'd be to have the 8900 or the bold just last night.
this BB will tide me over big time (hopefully). i'm also eligible for the 1 year $75 discount too so that'd be nice.
cheers
SWEET!!!!
LoL!!
Great news! Now my 8830 can get some much deserved rest.
Anyone notice the July 12 date on the phone? I know it doesn't mean anything, but that would be a nice release date ;-)
It may happen if they get the FCC approval.
Well it def is July 12, 2009.. Phone says Sunday and just looking at the calendar on my wall and july 12th is infact a sunday :)
that was only in reference to the year.. no idea if that is when it will be released but it sounds about right... I don't know if the product placement team has enough common sense to actually slip that little hint in there of if it is completely coincidental
My Treo 700p workhorse has served me well and is ready to be replaced so I got the Palm Pre on Day One. I hate to admit this, but after a week of normal to heavy usage, I found that the Pre didn't work out for me so I returned it.
My heart was set on the Palm Pre and Sprint's little known new Blackberry replacement. After Palm announced the Pre's release date, I was so thrilled. I was second (out of about 40) in line for the Pre at my Sprint store.
I figured since the Pre was gonna be out before the BB replacement, I'd go with the Pre.
The Pre was nice. Not too snappy. I didn't like the rubbery feel of the keyboard, but was gonna learn to live with it. The screen, OS, GUI was all good. Two things didnt work for me. Battery life - was 1 day or less. My Pre also suffered from the "Blank Screen" syndrome. That was it for me.
During the same time I was waiting for the Pre, I was searching in vain for any rumor/information about any Blackberry replacement. I have to admit one thing though, Sprint does a great job of news blackout. Very little information was available about any Blackberry replacement. All the talk was usually about Verizon CDMA Blackberries. How envious I was....
Sprint's anouncement of the Tour minutes after Verizon made my day!
Thank you Sprint for stepping up. I can't wait!!
Seriously Maroot, I'm in the same boat as you. I also had the pre, was waiting for it anxiously (my roommate had a pre-dev version for about three months) but as a day to day phone it wasn't there yet for a seasoned crackberry adict. The OS is awesome, but the short battery life, laggy response while answering calls, lack of apps and keyboard (in that order) made me return my pre today and anxiously await what could be the best blackberry released yet (had the bold but was turned off by its poor build quality and most of all ATTs horrendous bay area network).
All I can say is, "F*CK YEAH!"
Verizon fanboyz will be ouuta their minds!!!!!!
that date on the screen may be "foreshadowing"
I cannot wait
AWESOME NEWS everyone!! When I click on the RIM site, it says the phone has Wi-Fi, but nowhere does the press release from Sprint say this. Any ideas???
Love my 8330, but it's time.
I know cowchip. I wanna be able to smell a new BlackBerry all over again!!!! This has made my day!
The last sentense in the press release, before the 'about' section, reads as follows.
"Customers also have the option of using a third-party SIM for international voice and data services."
Looks like the sprint tour will be unlocked!
Tour is a quad-band phone.. all the quad-band phones from CDMA carriers are unlocked GSM with the addition of a sim card. But you will not be able to use it on any US GSM networks i believe, it is the same thing with the 8830 world...
Sprint's 8830 is unlocked, verizon's is not. So an unlocked tour is not a given. The tour will work on edge in the US on GSM carriers.
Verizon will unlock it for free. Plus, you can use the Verizon on in more countries and use the data in more places.

Any ideas on when "later this summer" is? Haha!
Just because the official Blackberry site lists a fully loaded Tour 9630 with Wi-Fi: 802.11b/g & maybe unlocked 850/1900MHz GSM®/GPRS radio, we all hope and wish Sprint will choose to implement them. They might choose not to.
We need somebody to sniff out and report the official Sprint FCC filing on the 9630.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Will we be 7.1.15 or 5.0?
Will we be 4.7.15 or 5.0?
I just about peed in my pants when I saw this! Yay!
This is VERY exciting news for us Sprint peeps! Cannot WAIT to get this badboy!
I'm sure glad VZW and Sprint have provided "email signup" pages - that way we can learn of the product launch price and date about 16-24 hours *AFTER* launch has already occurred, aka Palm Pre, BB Storm, BB Curve(s), yada yada yada.
The only reason they do provide these is to barrage us with advertising emails for other products every few days. Not once, ONCE have I ever received an email that provided device launch details before the actual launch had already happened.
What a friggin' joke.
Of course, at least Sprint isn't still falsely advertising that they were the "first commercial provider of a 3G network" as VZW continues to do.
The fact is, VZW wasn't even CLOSE to being the first 3G provider!
yup youre right they wernt lol they were 5th would wide and second in the united states first one in the us was Monet Mobile Networks but they dont exist anymore so yeah verizon is the first now i guess.
About time, I am signed and ready to buy!
I'm so glad that Sprint came though for us on this one! I only wish that we had a better idea of what late summer means! I'm ready for my new phone now!
Late Summer means late August-sept.
The Blackberry Tour goes on sale for verizon this Sunday both online and at Verizon Wireless stores according to Verizon's Blackberry Tour site.
