If you're a Snapchat user, you may already know there's a third party BlackBerry 10 client in the works - Snap2Chat. Currently the app is available in beta and is improving with every update. This latest update brings us to v0.9 and adds some nice features. Snap2Chat aims to give you more function that the official Snapchat version. I'm beginning to use Snapchat more and more and it's really due to having this native BlackBerry 10 app. It's great to have the community help build a great app, just like iGrann.

Snap2Chat v0.9 changelog

  • ADDED - Video Recorder (You can now happily send videos)
  • ADDED - Video Editor (it's awesome, but video editor saves video in a higher size, sometimes your video snap will not be sent when you use this editor)
  • ADDED - Front Facing Flash
  • ADDED - 2 More recent snaps in active frame for z30
  • IMPROVED - Reduced RAM/Memory Usage Size - Before Up to 320MB
  • IMPROVED - Startup Time
  • ADDED - Jump to top and jump to bottom in lists
  • ADDED - 1 and 2 second snap time limit
  • CORRECTED - Friends Count in Friends Tab
  • REMOVED - Advanced Camera Settings
  • FIXED - About Page Close Button
  • FIXED - Mirroring on attached photos, shoutbox and in extended profile
  • FIXED - Shows Stories Count in Tab
  • ADDED - Space Bar Key to Capture and Start/Stop Recording
  • REMOVED - BB10 Camera

Remember, this is still in beta and the developer would love your feedback to help improve the app further and fix any issues. You can take a trip to the CrackBerry Forums where there is a very active thread on Snap2Chat.

I'm still digging the android version, but I'm curious to see the final version

I'm going down with the GrooGrux King

I can't get Google Play Services and the camera won't start for the android version for more me. This my only hope.

Love your signature btw ;)

Does this app come with the ability to have your account information leaked to the public by hackers because the folks at snapchat don't take the security of their customers information seriously? Because if it doesn't, I'm not even going to bother downloading this. The lack of this key feature would really be a deal breaker for me.

What information do you really put on snapchat that you are so scared for? Anything over the intent these days is not safe

It's the principle that I'm against. I don't use the app myself and I'm well aware of the accessibility of people's information on the internet. They and their users were lucky that it was white hats that pressured them to change and not people with more malicious agendas.

If you're worried about SnapChat, then you must be downright enraged and fuming over the NSA allegations.

Well if you're actually interested in my thoughts about it, I do find it disconcerting. I do feel like I have a right to privacy, and I don't think the government should be snooping on innocent citizens without probable cause. Is that so weird? You're just ok with that? You may be right though. I guess Big Brother does know what's best for all of us.

Privacy!!! In this day and age. Are you serious?

Addict for 10 years, but it may be time to get off this drug.

Not a tinfoil hatter. Snooping and data slurping is going too far.

iPhone for me? Scr... ahem Q that! (posted from the latter)

This app is epic. I'm done using the original Snapchat app and never going back. If you haven't downloaded it yet, do so ASAP!

I'm happy to see people having their first try at Snapchat through the use of this Native BB10 app, same for iGrann and Whine. Great to have so many awesome devs working for BlackBerry!

Thanks for the write up DJ! Glad to see you have a porche design in your arsenal ;)

Love this developer and the app, but needs a stability update before it should get released to BB World, runs great, doesn't crash, but just the odd bug like it'll show a message I sent 10 hours ago when I sent it a minute ago. Also needs to bring headless support. But all in all, this app is a billion times better than the android one.

I can assure you headless support is coming, we just have to wait for approval by BlackBerry to use it within Snap2Chat

Snap2chat has a plethora of features that the original Snapchat doesn't have. There's lots of customization that enhances the experience an Snap2chat.

Plus, the original snapchat doesn't not fully work on the z10. With the original Snapchat app, I cannot record and send videos and photos have this weird distorted effect towards the bottom edge when I add a caption.

Once this is fully featured and headless ima go all in on this app when it hits BlackBerry World

don't get me wrong, I can appreciate a developer's want to meet a demand and fill a void, but there are certain apps you just expect at a certain point to work on your platform of choice, and no subsitute will cut it, because in the back of your mind, you know it's just a substitute.

the developer knows it, you know it, there is no happy happy joy joy, click your heels together three times solution... the only remedy is a native app. We all know the kind of attention BB10 has garnered thus far. Enough to stick in a thimble, at best.

I encourage you all to convince BB to go Android or stop making hamfisted attempts to appeal to a larger audience beyond their capability to support. If they persist in shotgun anus-ing their way to glory, they are going to fail spectacularly. Go full 'droid or go home, seriously. This half-attempt is weak and devalues the brand.

Thanks for your opinion. Interesting to see those who actually want android on BB. I really feel that this attempt at creating a snapchat client/native app for BlackBerry is a success. Kudos to the Dev, he has put in countless hours of work that deserves the credit.

Awesome app. But doesn't work fully for me... have to keep switching between this and snapchat.....headless be great plus more stable.... far superior than snapchat but unfortunately snapchat it is for me until this awesome native app works fully on my z10.......

I had the same situation previously, I was switching back to the original snapchat just to post stories . But now with the recent Snap2chat update, we can create stories and send videos.

Have you tried the newest update? And if so, what keeps you switching back and forth between apps. I'm curious.
