SmartSig Gives Your More Control Over Email Signatures By Adam Zeis | 21 Nov 2009 09:31 |
I just checked out SmartSig and I have to say it is very cool. One of my long running gripes with BIS email signatures is that they show up at the very bottom of an email, after all the text in the email - even reply or quoted text. With SmartSig you can change that and have your signatures show up right where they belong. The app lets you choose custom signatures for email and SMS, and you can create and edit them right on your device. You'll need to delete your BIS signature for SmartSig to work properly, but from there you're all set. SmartSig runs on all devices with OS 4.3 and higher and is available for $1.50 in the CrackBerry App Store.

This sounds cool. I'll wait for other reviews before I make a purchase.
I thought signatures go at the end of an email. When i send an email to myself my signature is right at the end of the body of the email on the far left.
I've been wanting a utility like this ever since I got my first BlackBerry. This does exactly what it says, how it says, the way it should be. Now I don't have to rely on autotext fillers for an email signature....and this seems to work well when replying to HTML emails as well.
Great app! Thanks for the heads up.
A lot of times when you reply or forward an email, the BIS puts your signature at the end of that you forward instead of at the end of what your reply is. If this program works like it says it does it will be great. For $1.50 I'm giving it a shot.....stand by for an update.
That is exactly what it does.
My email signatures seem to go at the end of my reply, not the body of the whole email, so I don't think this app is particularly useful to me, but I guess some people who are having that problem can use this app to fix it.
Can you use multiple signatures for one e-mail address? I've tried this app and it appears that you cannot enable or disable a particular signature if they are both on the same address. Is this app only good for someone with multiple e-mail addresses?
And how do you disable it completely? I disabled all signatures and it still attaches both signatures to the end of an e-mail?
Edit:
I just deleted this app. The "disable" feature does not work! It uses the sig whether it is enabled or disabled.
This has been fixed in version 1.0.37 which was just released. There's a few ways to get the update.
1: You can use the Check For Updates menu item in SmartSig to automatically be taken in your BlackBerry browser to the download page at http://www.swiftraven.com/.
2: The new version has also been posted to MobiHand so you can check there as well.
The update works fine now.
A nice feature, but not a demand item. I just put my signature as an autotext item. So, at the end of my email, I put "abc" (no quotes) for one signature, or "ac" for just my first name. Set up as many autotext signatures as you like. Works for email or texts.
Umm, you can already do this with BIS. just login to BIS and set your sig. As for text/sms message WHY? I hate when friends use sigs on the SMS you can only send 160 chrs, sometimes I get 2 txt msgs instead of 1 because these idiots wanted to include there sigs.
For email, I don't always want my signature going out on every message, which is why I do not have it set up in BIS. This is a welcome addition to the BB in my opinion. If you think it's dumb, don't buy it.
save your money and memory set an AutoText
more useless redundant apps. every new app seems like a repeat of something else, just different steps and a price-tag. don't use the free built in autotext, use my app that costs money and uses precious memory. up next, the $20 flashlight app.
"SmartSig Gives You*R* More Control..."
spell check?
Spell check won't flag this because it isn't spelled incorrectly. Only proof reading with catch a grammatical error.
This is a dumb app. We can store dozens of auto texts on the phone that do the exact same thing except for free and without hogging phone memory.
I'm requesting my little $1.50 back because at the end of the signature it says "Signature automatically added by SmartSig"! Seriously I don't want to advertise that crap to every person I send a SMS or Email to. So I'll be deleting this app ASAP and getting my $ back. I figured for a $1.50 why not but not now!
After you purchased this app, did you enter the "purchase code"? If not, go to settings and enter the purchase code where it says "License Key". After that you will not get the advertisement.
Enter in the freaking activation code... duh.
I wonder just how many people, like you, write a negative review just because they did not know how to properly utilize an application.
In your case, a simple reading and following of instructions is all that was needed to have saved you from having to "advertise that crap to every person I send a SMS or Email to."
I sincerely hope you got your $1.50 back.
Maybe one day you will come up with an application that we all can find useful!
Come on Lulu, read the instructions. You should post a follow up statement retracting your incorrect post. I can't live without this app now since I have 7 business email accounts on my device and use my BB more than my laptop for mail now.
I downloaded it and sent a few test emails and it works as advertised. Worth the $1.20 (I had a 20% off coupon from mobihand).
Just bought, downloaded, and tested this application.
So far it appears to work flawlessly, and I am now able to store and use all the different signatures I use in Outlook, right from my Berry - something I've been wanting to do for a long time.
In my opinion, one of the best $1.50's I've spent in a long time!
Would someone PLEASE tell me why BIS sometimes put the signature at the very bottom of the entire email and sometimes in the correct place at the bottom of the reply? It seems to be done at random. You are right Adam, this is one of the most long-running annoying thing about BIS and I don't understand why they don't/can't fix it.
Here is the Solution.
This is for BES 5.0 or Desktop Manager
1.) turn off your "auto signature" on your device.
2.) Log into your Blackberry Administration Service
3.) Go to MANAGE USERS > SEARCH > SELECT A USER
4.) Go to EDIT USER > DEFAULT CONFIGURATION
5.) Go to the "E-mail" tab
6.) Place your cursor inside of the "Auto Signature" box
7.) Hit the "enter" key 2 or 3 times depending on how much space you want after your e-mail
8.) proceed to write your signature just the way you want and save it.
9.) Turn your "auto signature" back on from your hand held and the information that you put on your pc should now show up there. Hit save on your hand held and there you go.
The key is to hit "enter" before you actually input your signature information. For some reason, when you input the info from the hand held, it gets funky and doesn't format properly. So the best way to do this is from you pc. It could either be a BES or the desktop manager. Either way you should be good. I hope I helped you out because you don't need to waste money on a program for this.
