SmartBCalendar Icon Shows Actual Day and Date

I stumbled across this one this morning and thought it was pretty cool. SmartBCalendar simply replaces your stock calendar icon with a new one (that looks exactly the same) but this one is amped up. The icon shows the actual date, and when highlighted the application name displays as the day - very cool. When you click the icon it takes you right to the native calendar app. I know that we shouldn't have to pay for something like this that should be in the OS already, but at only $0.99 its worth checking out.

what is the first icon for? like a briefcase?
jayhammy Oct 1, 2009 at 9:09 am
I think that's for enterprise activation. You only get this if you're on your company's exchange or other server.

App seems cool and only .99 cents. I'm in for it!

when reading this i got really excited for it as it seems like a very useful application. I then realized its not going to look right when used with themes as its going to keep the default look and stick out pretty badly.

This program is not usable in it's present state. If you have a relatively large font set as your preference, the numbers bleed right out of the calendar frame and look aweful. Additionally, if you use a hidden "today" theme, (the type where appointments show up if you highlight the calendar icon) none of the appointments show up. It's a great idea, but in it's present form it just doesn't cut it. It needs upgrading right out of the box to fix those issues.

works great on my default theme. I'm not a chick, so I don't need all kinds of bling bling for my theme.
TallyHo Oct 1, 2009 at 9:59 am
BTW.....RIM should definitely implement this into the OS as a standard.

Neat idea but should be an industry standard.

I was in the process of purchasing this app when I looked at the different screen shots and realized that it doesn't change to match different themes and it only imitates the Precision theme. Since I despise the Precision theme and think it's one of the worst themes ever, I never use it and therefore this app would not look good for me.

I bought it and didnt realize my hidden today wouldnt work
cannonballgsu Oct 1, 2009 at 10:32 am
Couldn't you just look at the top banner and save 99 cents
bgrounds01 Oct 1, 2009 at 10:39 am
Doesn't work - waste of $.99...
hls811 Oct 1, 2009 at 10:40 am
Since its a replacement App, it doesn't work with the Hidden Today screens. :( Oh well, it was a .99 trial and error. If its ever updated so that it can work, I'd definitely use this!

I put it on my Storm, today is Oct.1 and mine says 31, Help?

Hi,
SmartBCalendar doesn't replace the calendar icon, it is installed in your Downloads folder. You can move SmartBCalendar to your Home Screen using
following approach:
- Locate SmartBCalendar in your "Downloads" folder, press Menu button and
choose "Move To Folder" option, and select "Home screen".
After that you will have two similar icons on your Home Screen -
SmartBCalendar, which will show the actual date and the standard calendar
icon, which will show 31.
If you like to remove the standard calendar icon:
- Select Calendar icon, hit Menu buton and choose Hide. The icon will
disappear, you can bring it back by choosing Menu - Show All
- Select Calendar icon, hit Menu buton and choose Move or Move to Folder.
This way you can move it to whatever position on the HomeScreen you choose

This SmartBCalendar would work great with custom themes that exclude the date at the top.

Did a battery pull right away and did not fix it!! Any other suggestions?? Still Says "31"
zaqer Oct 1, 2009 at 3:55 pm
...unless an update is in the works to make it activate hidden today.
codito Oct 1, 2009 at 8:10 pm
The home screen already shows the day and date! What's the point of this if it's not free?
cputoys Oct 1, 2009 at 8:19 pm
I spent the buck just to satisfy my suspicion that it wouldn't work with hidden today themes. Yep... would be a worthwhile upgrade if it can be done. I'd go another buck (at least) to get it!

Hi,
SmartBCalendar is not supposed to remove the standard calendar icon.

Very nice app...Granted I second what the original article states that this should be included within the OS but what are ya gonna do? One drawback for this app that I found is that it doesn't display the Today events when rolling over. This may not matter to some who don't use the feature with their theme, however I was a little thrown off after I bought it and noticed it.
c0rinne Oct 2, 2009 at 2:23 pm
I like it. Simple but nice.
My criticisms would be:
1. The icon is boring.
2. The calendar is slow when opening.
redrabbit07 Oct 2, 2009 at 2:26 pm
Blends seamlessly with the original icons!
