Smart Watch Companion reaches version 2.0 and goes headless

As a Pebble owner and BlackBerry 10 user, the choices are limited when it comes to compatible applications. However, that doesn't mean the ones currently available don't deliver outstanding functionality for the platform.

One such application is Smart Watch Companion. For those following it's progress, this handy, jack of all trades, utility application has come a long way since it's original inception and now stands at version 2.0. The most important change in this version is that it is now offers headless, though that is not to say the new capabilities aren't welcome as well, especially the find my car feature.

This version brings quite a few enhancements and functionality to your BlackBerry 10 hardware in addition to sending these notifications to your Pebble smart watch. Feel free to browse the full change log listed below.

Smart Watch Companion Change Log v2.0

  • Headless Mode
  • French and German Localisation
  • Custom Alarm tones
  • Custom LED Colour
  • 3 and 7 day weather forecasts
  • NFC script activation
  • 'Find where I left my car' function
  • Geo Fenced Reminders
  • Minecraft server administration and chat functions (requires JSONAPI mod for Minecraft)
  • UI Enhancements
  • Misc Bug fixes
  • Key settings backup and restore feature

If you are not familiar already with Smart Watch Companion, it requires the installation of the BlackBerry pebble application Talk2WatchPro as well as the latest version of the Pebble software in order for script mode to function properly. Some of the features it offers is weather forecasts, Google and LastPass Authenticator Codes (as well as other sites), RSS News information for predefined sites, Bitcoin/Litecoin/Stock quotes, Alarms, Camera mode, Plex Media Controller, and other BlackBerry social features to make sure you get the most out of your Pebble for only $2.99.

Is the pebble a completely black and white device? It looks a long way off from some of the other watches

Pebble was one of the first affordable smartwatch on the marker, and uses e-ink technology, which draws a lot less power from the battery than other LCD or OLED color smartwatches. That's why.

8 days vs 8 hours battery life, I wouldn't say they are behind, but i guess it all boils down to what features are important to you.

I prefer the pebble steel as it looks much nicer, comes with 2 bands, has awesome battery life, works with multiple manufacturers, and sends me all my notifications.

Too bad that Talk2Watch Pro, which is a dependency, is not headless.

The developer has mentioned that he can't fit Talk2Watch into the size required of headless applications required by BB .. so we may be stuck with that until native support or a more "efficient" client gets developed.

find my car uses the default installed BlackBerry Maps. Press the marker in the location tab and you will get a 'balloon' with a button on it. Press the button and route guidance via BBMaps is invoked.

which language did you find was innacurate? The french is better than the German I admit which I supplemented with Google translate - not a perfect tool. Perhaps you want to help provide a better translation? You can feel free to volunteer, I've published on the SWC Channel that I'm willing to work with people. Hopefully at least everyone can see at least it was a reasonable attempt to be considerate of a Cosmopolitan audience

Crackberry y'all kinda late on dis one ain't it. I updated this a week or two ago. Come on wit it now.

Purchased it today. Used the find my car feature. Worked all right.
Set a RSS Feed. Worked well too. Took a picture remotely.....

That's one ugly watch, some people wearing this in public places? My Z10 and Tag Heuer watch more than enough for me.

Rolex would be nice, though.

For me doesn't matter how fancy shmancy companion software is available or not!!!I refuse to buy a smartwatch unless they come out with color screened versions, afterall where not in the 90's!?
