Slacker Radio

Slacker Radio got a little bump in versions recently. Version 2.0.91 is now available for download from the Slacker Radio website. Now would be a good time to get in on their Halloween music channel as well if you have never checked Slacker out before.

Sadly, no changelog is available at this time for what exactly the update corrects. From my checking of it, it appears to be some if not full support for OS 5.0. but if you notice anything else don't hesitate to drop us a note in the comments or in the CrackBerry forums of your findings.

Download link provided isn't for OTA install, but instead is for instructions on downloading. You need to point your BB Browser to http://www.slacker.com.

Also, I keep getting an error about incompatible modules already installed, and the download/install fails if I try to proceed. I'm going to try and remove my previous version, to see if that helps.

This is the first time I've had Slacker run without any problems whatsoever since I've been in 5.0....I also have Pandora running without a hitch.

The upgrade still doesn't support Windows 7 for Staion Cache-ing? Bummer

I've been station caching on Win 7 for months.

I wonder if this will fix the problem with the BB Curve 8330 resetting sporadically while playing Slacker radio. It's annoying because I really like the app, but I want my music to play continuously as much as possible.

Looks like they removed the ability to advance to the next song by pressing the on-screen next album art/song in queue (press for Storm, ball select for others). Think they added that option in one of the recent updates - not a big deal; it was kinda nice but not critical.

Wonder why they took that away? hmmm....

I can skip songs still by clicking the screen.

Which do you all like better, Slacker or Pandora??

Bottom line for ME...... Slacker for on the road, simply for the caching. I live in an EDGE area of AT&T (no 3G) and streaming of Pandora is weak. BUT on WiFi, PANDORA......
A WiFi refresh of the cache would be an improvement.

I have tried these out on my itouch and BB Tour, both tied into outside stereos.

BB Tour Slung through Jabra to radio:

Slacker Packs much more rich bass and over fill. To me I like my music to have some grunt aka Bass. Over all the one that sounds best to me

Pandora Lacks punch, ok it just does not hit low at all. Pandora would be nice for a cheaper stereo speakers and voice. Beings it does seem to have better highs then Slacker.

Both are great. I tend to use slacker for the fact it has real lows and I like that.

Itouch connected to home stereo:

Slacker hands down sounds better on my home stereo. Again it is about having fill. Slacker makes the subs work.

Pandora, same deal but really shows how lacking it is on the bass.

How much music can Slacker cache? Card space dependent I suppose.

I downloaded this app to my Curve 8310. The music that played was filled with static. The control bar was slow to react. I am trapped on the Edge Network via AT&T here in San Diego. That could be the problem. When I attempted to delete the programe the App goes away but the icon on the desktop will not. I am not a happy camper!

Since upgrading to 5.0 Slacker 2.0.49 wouldn't advance tracks and I couldn't shut down the application. Both of those problems are fixed with Slacker 2.0.91 on my Bold and it's running like a champ.

Seems like slacker is working closely with RIM and got a hold of some special API because you can now adjust the volume while Slacker is in the background. I can at least on my tour with OS 5.0. Anyone else?

By: davidnyc | Date: Sun, 11/01/2009 - 18:09

it's a new feature of OS 5.0 that apps can access the volume controls even while not in focus!

Ever so often, Slacker crashes

By: yureddiebear | Date: Thu, 01/14/2010 - 12:14

My Storm used to work perfectly with slacker and my winXP computer. Now I have a new win7 (64 bit) computer and I have no love. The station sync app won't run.

Someone said they were running on Win7. Did you do anything special to make it work? Was it 32 or 64 bit?

TIA
