Sweet! Slacker Personal Radio is finally available for the BlackBerry Storm! The update and announcement were supposed to go live at 8am ET on Wednesday, but it looks like the Slacker folks are as eager as us device owners when it comes to the Storm and jumped releasing it a few hours early. Good timing too - this of course means all you Storm owners can now now legitimately enter the CrackBerry Slacker Contest we announced yesterday on the blogs!

I've been running Slacker on my Verizon Storm for the past couple of hours and man oh man am I loving it. Apps like this kick up the CrackBerry Addiction to a whole new level. You can download by visiting Slacker.com on your BlackBerry's browser (set your Browser Identification to "BlackBerry" (not IE or Firefox) to make sure you get the mobile site) or clicking the image above. More details in the press release below!

Slacker Announces Availability of Mobile Radio Application for the BlackBerry Storm Smartphone

Free Slacker Personal Radio Mobile Application Features Touch Screen Navigation and Station Caching

SAN DIEGO, CA - February 4, 2009 - Slacker, Inc. today announced the availability of the free Slacker Mobile application for the BlackBerry® Storm smartphone from Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM). BlackBerry Storm users* can now listen to their favorite Slacker radio stations anywhere they go, whether they are connected to a wireless network or not - a Slacker Mobile feature exclusive to BlackBerry® smartphones. The application, which is optimized for the handset's unique touch screen, is available as a free download by visiting Slacker.com from your BlackBerry Storm.

The Slacker Mobile application provides BlackBerry Storm smartphone users in the U.S. with a personalized music discovery and listening experience, pulling from over 100 expert-programmed Slacker stations, over 10,000 artist stations or a nearly unlimited number of the listener's own custom-created stations. Features include vertical as well as horizontal modes, an intuitive interface optimized for touch operation, as well as "peek ahead", allowing the listener to see a preview of the next artist and album in their stations' rotation.

Slacker station caching, an exclusive feature for BlackBerry smartphones, enables listeners to store favorite stations on a memory card, allowing the Slacker Mobile application to play without a network connection, reducing battery life consumption by up to 5 times that of streaming playback and enhancing application performance. In addition, BlackBerry smartphone enthusiasts can enjoy Slacker Personal Radio while doing other tasks such as emailing, instant messaging or web browsing.

The Slacker application for the BlackBerry Storm smartphone includes detailed artist bios and album reviews for each song, providing the ultimate resource for music discovery. The Slacker Mobile application works with the free Slacker Basic Radio service, along with Slacker Radio Plus and Slacker Premium Radio subscription offerings.

"The Slacker Mobile application for the BlackBerry Storm offers an engaging and intuitive mobile listening experience that takes full advantage of its unique features," said Dennis Mudd, CEO of Slacker. "With an intuitive touch screen interface as well as station caching, BlackBerry Storm owners can now easily enjoy their favorite music wherever they go."

Slacker Personal Radio, available online at www.Slacker.com, enables listeners to personalize over 100 professionally programmed stations or create, edit and share their own Personal Radio stations. Slacker listeners also have easy access to artist profiles, album reviews and cover art on the web, with the Slacker G2 portable and now on the BlackBerry Storm smartphone.

Slacker Mobile for the BlackBerry Storm offers:

  • Free music library featuring millions of songs
  • Optimized for Storm Touch Screen operation
  • Vertical and Horizontal modes

Is it normal for the sound to be so faint and tinny through the speaker? I haven't tried the ear buds yet

I had this issuse with flycast too... why is it only playing through the ear speaker and how do I fix it?

This could be the begining of a great friendship... nothing any better than being able to have access to such a great app!

as a music lover of stuff that can be hard to find and never plays on radio I love this app. I switch between Pandora and Slacker on my laptop but now that I have Slacker on my phone, and the program so far seems to be done excellently (word?), I think Slacker will be my primary for now.

I registered for slacker to listen on my laptop while at work but I just downloaded the app for my storm and I'm enjoying the jazz channel right now.

Kevin, you could do all us brits with our vodafone storms a masssssivvvveeee favour and ask when this will be out for us in the UK. I sent them an email but not had a reply.

You with all your crackberry mightyness might have more luck.. needless to say I think alot of brits are itching to get this one up and running. Had no joy whatsoever with flycast on the storm either.. installs... conects then when you try and get on a station it says it cant connect. So we are loosing out over the other side of the pond on 2 counts!

cheers ta

been waiting on my browser to load the site for like 20 minutes now ? its 99% loaded and doing nothing????????and yes i have refreshed and refreshed!!!!! any one else having this problem??????? i'm jonsing

Downloads and installs ok, but when I try to play any song in any channel I get "An error has occurred" and no music. I read somewhere that this can happen if some of the app permissions are on Deny so I changed them to Allow but no luck. Anyone else having this problem?

I tried to go to Slacker.com on my 9530 and it gave me an error saying this site is "forbidden". Any suggestions?

site started loading!!!!!!! got to about 98% and says please wait!!!!!! and i keep waiting!!!!!!!!!! omg been do this 1 hour now any suggestions

Does anyone know how to make it play through my Bluetooth headset. I have flycast on my storm and theirs an option with flycast to play through my bluetooth. Great app I just hope it has this capability. Or could it be one of the perks of getting the monthly subcripstion?

Isnt it funny that the Blackberry is produced in Canada and yet Slacker is not available to us? We can download it but it wont stream to us. Essentially making it useless for Canadians

I have been using the non-Storm version for a while but this is easier to use! Imagine how many great Storm apps are going to be released when the App Center opens!

can someone be so kind as to post the direct OTA link? Kevin usually provides this, but didnt this time. ;) keep up the great work BTW.

Is there any way to play music from more than one station? For example I like Rock, Hard Rock, and Metal. Can I make it randomly play a song from each of the stations?

i been tryin to access it through the site but it loads up to like 95% and than stops. lol. im pretty sure the servers are getting hammered. thx

I think you can create your own station by adding your favorite artists at the top of the station list. I'm going to try it. I want to see if I can limit it to BritRock from the 60's, 70's, & 80's.

im havin the exact same problem. I went to slacker.com as directed. But when i got there it did not direct me to another site it only says "Loading Slacker Radio Please Wait!"

Great app! I used the old version and turned off compatibility mode. This one is amazing, works smooth, fast, songs dont cut off at the end. Highly recommended!

This app is so awesome. I'm so lovin my Storm. Aerosmith is rockin this is sweet. Please stay free!!!!!!!!!!

Great app probably the best so far. Sounds great, very excited about this. Lovin my Storm. Stay free please.

whee is the bluetooth option?

I like the app just need to connect to bluetooth.

For us guys looking for spiritual music we did not have a whole lot of options...so thanks slaker!

Works well but everytime I get an email it stops the music playback and i have to start the song over again, it doesnt pause it

OK been using it for about an hour or so now works Excellent!!!! Not sure what adding a profile id is all about though on the slacker website?????

Hello...This is my first time, my first blackberry and my first comment. i just would like to say that this app is HOT! i just downloaded it over the website using my storm broswer and wow was that quick..the app works like a charm. looking forward to more new apps..

It's not giving me the option to play back through the headphones.. what gives? Anyone try this? Have the same problem?

Downloaded perfectly, (must use blackberry browser) but after about an house amount of use, got a call from Verizon reminding me about my DATA usage, Dont download unless you have unlimited data usage or you will have a really high bill next month. Luckily enough i have unlimited.

...but, is there anyway to have it come out of the speakerphone rather than just the earpiece/headphones?

I plugged in my headphones and when i disconnected them, I no longer had the issue. :-P

Hopefully this helps if anyone else has a similar issue.

I like this streaming music app over all the other ones, the sound quality is far superior with slacker. The only thing I noticed is that the song changes when you turn up the volume using the blackberry premium headphones adapter.

The Slacker.com forums said that before starting Slacker, plug in your headphones. This was quoted from a user who commented and said it fixed the problem:

"You need to ensure that the BB slacker app is totally shut down, and then plug your headphones, or bluetooth connection. Once your headphones are connected, start up the slacker app and it should work. It doesnt sense plugging in headphones, or starting up a bluetooth connection once the app is running."

I tried this myself and it resolved the issue.

ETA: I thought it did, but when I tried this, my phone was on Silent. If you have sounds enabled, music playback is interrupted by MMS or Email alerts. Make sure your profile is on Silent and then relaunch Slacker. This, for sure, resolved my issue. Been getting emails and texts all morning with no interruption in music anymore.

With the install of slacker radio I believe I have what I was looking for in the storm when I got it in early December. After OS upgrades, home page icon reduction, unused app deletion, Quicklaunch install,.99 beta install, and Slacker install, I now enjoy my storm, instead of wanting to throw it at the wall eevery time I felt the need to do a battery pull. The ability to cache stations to save battery power is awesome(though it does take a significant amount of time to upload per station). Sound quality is descent, an occasional glitch or skip, but nothing more than you would hear on a normal radio while driving(it is free, complian when you actually pay for it). Over all this app is the coolest thing for storm yet, and its free!!!! Build a station, cache stations, even edit stations so that a song or artist are "banned". If the only 3rd party app you have for your storm is Slacker Radio, it will double the coolness of you storm!

This version thats now compatible with the storm is SO MUCH BETTER. The difference is amazing. I was so frustrated by the previous version I uninstalled the app. I have to tip my hat to the developer. I love having this one on my storm.

Tried switching my browser to BlackBerry in settings and its not an option for some reason. Any ideas. I'm running a 9530 on verizon with .99. I'd love to hook that app up. Thanks for the help.

im also running on .99 and so far its working perfect.. try setting your browser to blackberry...then do a batter pull and hopefully that works =)

So ever since I have been listening on my laptop, I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival for the Storm. Just installed 3 minutes ago and love it already.

I understand that i need to switch my browser to blackberry in order to get the OTA download to work but that is not an option on my device for some reason. Is there something i need to change to get that option to show up? I go into advanced options and select browser and there are no options available in the pull down menu other than internet browser. This sucks. Anyone know what's up with that? Thanks for the help. desperately wanna download!

OMG I just downloaded slacker to my phone and i am immediately in love with it....My brother has the iphone and always brags about his Pandora radio..well well, look out Pandora, Slacker is IT!!! THANKS AGAIN CRACKBERRY FOR UR INFO!!

I'm new to the BB scene so please forgive the dumb question. Are you charged any airtime through your cell or is it unlimited use through the BB data plan?
