Slacker Personal Radio Now Available for the Storm!! Posted in BlackBerry Apps on 04 Feb 2009 00:07 by Kevin Michaluk | Sweet! Slacker Personal Radio is finally available for the BlackBerry Storm! The update and announcement were supposed to go live at 8am ET on Wednesday, but it looks like the Slacker folks are as eager as us device owners when it comes to the Storm and jumped releasing it a few hours early. Good timing too - this of course means all you Storm owners can now now legitimately enter the CrackBerry Slacker Contest we announced yesterday on the blogs! I've been running Slacker on my Verizon Storm for the past couple of hours and man oh man am I loving it. Apps like this kick up the CrackBerry Addiction to a whole new level. You can download by visiting Slacker.com on your BlackBerry's browser (set your Browser Identification to "BlackBerry" (not IE or Firefox) to make sure you get the mobile site) or clicking the image above. More details in the press release below! Press Release Slacker Announces Availability of Mobile Radio Application for the BlackBerry Storm Smartphone Free Slacker Personal Radio Mobile Application Features Touch Screen Navigation and Station Caching SAN DIEGO, CA - February 4, 2009 - Slacker, Inc. today announced the availability of the free Slacker Mobile application for the BlackBerry® Storm smartphone from Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM). BlackBerry Storm users* can now listen to their favorite Slacker radio stations anywhere they go, whether they are connected to a wireless network or not - a Slacker Mobile feature exclusive to BlackBerry® smartphones. The application, which is optimized for the handset's unique touch screen, is available as a free download by visiting Slacker.com from your BlackBerry Storm. The Slacker Mobile application provides BlackBerry Storm smartphone users in the U.S. with a personalized music discovery and listening experience, pulling from over 100 expert-programmed Slacker stations, over 10,000 artist stations or a nearly unlimited number of the listener's own custom-created stations. Features include vertical as well as horizontal modes, an intuitive interface optimized for touch operation, as well as "peek ahead", allowing the listener to see a preview of the next artist and album in their stations' rotation. Slacker station caching, an exclusive feature for BlackBerry smartphones, enables listeners to store favorite stations on a memory card, allowing the Slacker Mobile application to play without a network connection, reducing battery life consumption by up to 5 times that of streaming playback and enhancing application performance. In addition, BlackBerry smartphone enthusiasts can enjoy Slacker Personal Radio while doing other tasks such as emailing, instant messaging or web browsing. The Slacker application for the BlackBerry Storm smartphone includes detailed artist bios and album reviews for each song, providing the ultimate resource for music discovery. The Slacker Mobile application works with the free Slacker Basic Radio service, along with Slacker Radio Plus and Slacker Premium Radio subscription offerings. "The Slacker Mobile application for the BlackBerry Storm offers an engaging and intuitive mobile listening experience that takes full advantage of its unique features," said Dennis Mudd, CEO of Slacker. "With an intuitive touch screen interface as well as station caching, BlackBerry Storm owners can now easily enjoy their favorite music wherever they go." Slacker Personal Radio, available online at www.Slacker.com, enables listeners to personalize over 100 professionally programmed stations or create, edit and share their own Personal Radio stations. Slacker listeners also have easy access to artist profiles, album reviews and cover art on the web, with the Slacker G2 portable and now on the BlackBerry Storm smartphone. Awesome! Very excited about this... DLing now!
Been using it for a few hours now, works great!
One of the best apps I believe on the Storm right now!
its about time but it was worth the wait!!!!!!!!!!
Gotta love the late night treats like this. Thanks Kevin!!
Me too, just luckily got on before I went to bed.
Just downloaded the app, its awesome. This security guard was just saved from infinite boredom.
Awesome app!
...to stay up late.
Thank You Crackberry!
I upgraded to the Storm specific version and it is Soooooooooo much better. Go and Get it!
good stuff!!
I had the old one on the storm just downloaded the new one and it ROCKS
Or do us Canadians get hosed?!?!
Is it normal for the sound to be so faint and tinny through the speaker? I haven't tried the ear buds yet
Amazing application, nuff said. Definitely a must have for the storm. So long MP3 player!
Runs great, sounds good and looks beautiful. Good app
I had this issuse with flycast too... why is it only playing through the ear speaker and how do I fix it?
This could be the begining of a great friendship... nothing any better than being able to have access to such a great app!
as a music lover of stuff that can be hard to find and never plays on radio I love this app. I switch between Pandora and Slacker on my laptop but now that I have Slacker on my phone, and the program so far seems to be done excellently (word?), I think Slacker will be my primary for now.
simply put, this app is off the chain, great job slacker
im glad its here for the storm now, im glad to have a version made for it.
does anyone know when this will be available in Canada???
very nice app, two thumbs up
I registered for slacker to listen on my laptop while at work but I just downloaded the app for my storm and I'm enjoying the jazz channel right now.
This is a must download if you really love music!
Sweetest. F-in'. App. Ever.
Or do we loose out again?!
Kevin, you could do all us brits with our vodafone storms a masssssivvvveeee favour and ask when this will be out for us in the UK. I sent them an email but not had a reply.
You with all your crackberry mightyness might have more luck.. needless to say I think alot of brits are itching to get this one up and running. Had no joy whatsoever with flycast on the storm either.. installs... conects then when you try and get on a station it says it cant connect. So we are loosing out over the other side of the pond on 2 counts!
cheers ta
Which is AWESOME!! Great program, thank you slacker!
been waiting on my browser to load the site for like 20 minutes now ? its 99% loaded and doing nothing????????and yes i have refreshed and refreshed!!!!! any one else having this problem??????? i'm jonsing

Yay!
Downloads and installs ok, but when I try to play any song in any channel I get "An error has occurred" and no music. I read somewhere that this can happen if some of the app permissions are on Deny so I changed them to Allow but no luck. Anyone else having this problem?
I tried to go to Slacker.com on my 9530 and it gave me an error saying this site is "forbidden". Any suggestions?
site started loading!!!!!!! got to about 98% and says please wait!!!!!! and i keep waiting!!!!!!!!!! omg been do this 1 hour now any suggestions
Anyone know how this application will affect battery life?
shame this server is not available in good old Europe :( alternatives are welcome :)
Does anyone know how to make it play through my Bluetooth headset. I have flycast on my storm and theirs an option with flycast to play through my bluetooth. Great app I just hope it has this capability. Or could it be one of the perks of getting the monthly subcripstion?
This is great news for BB Storm owners who love music! Excellent app!
wow! much faster than running the other version!
Isnt it funny that the Blackberry is produced in Canada and yet Slacker is not available to us? We can download it but it wont stream to us. Essentially making it useless for Canadians
i can get the site load all the way on my laptop!!!!! but only loads 99% on my storm why????????? PLEASE ANY 1
to Blackberry and you'll see the option for download.

i wish slacker would be available outside of the us...
I've been running Slacker for the past few weeks on my Storm. Is there a need to reinstall since this update?
Sounds good, looks good, but how hard is it on the battery?
