So I am guessing you are American. Everywhere else outside of America calls your game American Football to distinguish it from football - only calling it Soccer if wanting to avoid confusion with Americans. You see, in football it is about the skill of controlling the ball with your foot. How the American game got the word foot in there I will never know. Then again, the full name of Rugby is Rugby Football - AF is a mutated version of Rugby so I suppose that could be it.
