One of the reasons why I love my BlackBerry Bold is because of its amazing display. Though at times it's hidden behind icons, the top banner, and notifications. Don't you wish there was a way to maximize the display without losing access to your most used applications? Forums member Bluemax413 has come up with a solution to your wallpaper woes and developed a simple and minimalistic theme called Minimo. It takes full advantage of your screen's real estate to let your various backgrounds show through.

Minimo is currently available in two versions (one with a weather slot and the other without) for the Bold 99xx running OS 7.1 only. It does a great job of showcasing your wallpapers as well as keeping your screen clutter and icon free. It accomplishes this feat with screen hotspots that are accessible by tapping on the corners or on the notification area and determined by your applicatoin order.

Minimo w/weather slot

Minimo v1 - Weather Slot

  • Minimal custom theme for 99x0 series.
  • There is a weather slot that is first in the device app order.
  • The second app in the order has a hidden hotspot in the top right corner of the screen.
  • The third app in the order has a hidden hotspot in the middle of the screen.
  • The fourth app in the order has a hidden hotspot in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • The fifth app in the order has a hidden hotspot in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  • The notification area is a hotspot for Messages.
  • The date is a hotspot for Calendar.
  • The signal area is a hotspot for Manage Connections.
  • "S" is hotkeyed to Universal Search.
  • "Z" is hotkeyed to Profiles.
Minimo v2 - No Weather Slot

Minimo v2 - No Weather Slot

  • Minimal custom theme for 99x0 series.
  • The first app in the device app order has a hidden hotspot in the top left corner of the screen.
  • The second app in the order has a hidden hotspot in the top right of the screen.

Due to the lack of TB7, Bluemax413 warns of two issues. First is that the main app screen remains white at all times and second is that icons placed in folders are invisible, though can be accessed via Universal Search hotkeyed to "S". Bugs aside, it runs smoothly and gives your display a clean look.

Contest: We have 25 copies Minimo to give away courtesty of Bluemax413. Simply leave a comment to this post stating which version you prefer (weather slot/no weather slot). Contest ends this Sunday at midnight, one entry per person please.

Intriguing... If won, w/o weather slot, please (have BerryWeather for that). What I REALLY appreciate is the dev being very up front about potential bugs (w/explanations as to why, ala RIM's issues w/the ribbon and themes/themers). This theme is consummate BB: "Simple and useful is best."

I was just thinking I wish there was a way to free up the homescreen so my background can show off. This is a great idea. I hope it becomes available for the 9850 soon ;) also, on the homescreen, if there was a way to hide (or auto hide after X amount of seconds) the notification bar at the top and app bar at the bottom (just like you can hide the buttons in the picture viewer for full screen viewing, then tap the screen to bring them back), that would be swell. I've been wanting this feature for a while. Please make happen :) lol

I would love to win a copy with the weather slot! I hide the icons with 7.1 but to move the time & stuff from the top to show my wallpaper would be sweet!

That's awesome, I've always thought there should be an app for that. I'll take it without the weather slot, please!

The 9900 ppi is 287....iPad3 ppi is 264

The 9900 has a great screen. It looks like they gave it a higher ppi because the screen is smaller and text can be smaller and still legible!

Definitely I would go with the no weather one. I don't trust weather forecast so why know get it?

I have to say that this look is one of the cleanest ones that I saw so far for my 9900. Good job!

This is a nice and clean app for a beautiful and clean phone, in the 9900. Would love a copy with the weather slot

It would be very cool to have this (once I get my 9900) so this would be a push for me to finally get it !!! :) waiting..
