Seesmic, one the larger provides of desktop applications for Twitter has moved into the mobile market. As of now, heading on over to the Seesmic website from your BlackBerry will enable you to download the all new BlackBerry Twitter client.
Features:
- All your timelines-Seesmic for BlackBerry groups all your Twitter timelines into one simple application. Whether you want to scroll through your friends timeline, check on a saved search, view a list or want to find a private conversation with a friend, everything is one click away from the main menu.
- Saved search and list support- Searches and lists saved on your Twitter account are automatically imported and made available inside the BlackBerry application – a first for a Twitter application the BlackBerry.
- URL Shortening -We integrated the same URL shortening capability than in our popular Desktop client. Just type a URL, press the shortening button and we’ll transform your long URL into a really small one so you have more space for your tweets.
- Background Notifications -While it is running in the background, Seesmic for BlackBerry will alert you to received Direct Messages and @Replies that require your attention. This is done using the familiar system-wide icon notification bar that alerts you to new mail, sms messages and voicemails.
Two versions are currently available while in beta and alpha stages v1.0 for BlackBerry devices running OS 4.6 and higher, and an alpha v1.0b for the Tour 9630 and Storm series devices. No support to be found for 4.5 or anything less then, but in all reality who would be running anything less then anyways? Give it a shot, let us know how it works in the comments.

I just came across this and posted it in the forums a little while ago too! :) Links to everything are there as well in the News & Rumors section along with a link to the Seesmic Support page to request new features and report bugs etc...

Very cool, running on my Tour now. Nice to see my lists. I have a feeling these guys will be updating this a lot.
TONYG2388 Nov 20, 2009 at 7:04 pm
the icon doesn't disappear
Tifoso Nov 20, 2009 at 7:28 pm
ditto. that freaky looking racoon is always in my notifications even after I exit.
miller7796 Nov 20, 2009 at 10:28 pm
I like the app for the most part, but if there's no way to get rid of that icon then back to Social Scope I go.

I love Seesmic on my desktop and was excited to try it on my Storm. Downloaded it and took one look and deleted. The font of the tweets is TINY and in a light gray. I need more contrast for my late 40s eyes. Tried to make the font bigger through the app but there is no option. (yes, I know I can change the total BB font/size but I don't want to change my whole phone for one app.)
The tweet is bigger and better if I open an individual tweet however I'm not going to do that with every tweet. I'm not a developer so I don't know if those are easy fixes, but until they are, I'm back to Open Beak.

Excellent, I've been wondering when this would finally come out. Gonna give it a whirl!
CrackBerryV79 Nov 20, 2009 at 7:25 pm
Not bad... Runs quickly and smoothly. The icon doesn't reall 'fit' Twitter, nor does it ever go away. Also, no Trending topics or ability to see your followers or those you follow. (Still waiting on TG to offer that as well)
Still much work to be done, but already pretty decent.
sjkimberly Nov 20, 2009 at 8:01 pm
and it works well too on BlackBerry Curve 8330 with v 5.0
burzlurker Nov 20, 2009 at 8:40 pm
Not bad. Yeah that icon doesn't split, no trending comments. Not thrilled I can only set it to check every 60 mins at the most. Probably will kill the battery. But looks nice and runs fast.
devGOD Nov 20, 2009 at 8:46 pm
another twitter app? is that the only thing developer can think of creating? Its either a twitter app or an LED app
hudss Nov 20, 2009 at 9:00 pm
wouldn't worry..I hear they're making a flashlight and a stop tilt app..
zeromaru Nov 20, 2009 at 8:55 pm
it tells me there is no network connection
Seems like it doesnt work with bis, at least not in argentina. (I have no carrier apn)
atsalach Nov 20, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Why it doesn't work with the 8830 Verizon world edition?
When trying to download it say " This appl requires the following module, which is not installed: net_rim_bbapi_messagelist
Probably because the 8830 os is only 4.5
emumom90 Nov 20, 2009 at 10:24 pm
I get the same message on a curve 8330...
jeremy.schiefer Nov 20, 2009 at 10:10 pm
7012 emails? thats alot of emails lol
JustinD2473#IM Nov 21, 2009 at 1:01 am
I was gonna post the same thing haha !
rob15594 Nov 20, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Not bifocal friendly.
marvzz Nov 20, 2009 at 10:47 pm
I cannot make it work using BIS data. My carrier is Singtel (Singapore).
CrackBerryV79 Nov 20, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Can we cool it with the Twitter apps? Damn... there are other things some of these phones NEED addressed. I don't need 15 variations of the same app, designed to let me suffer through 2 million retarded kids drool-text and nut on themselves about "New Moon". Move on.
312 Nov 21, 2009 at 12:04 am
Love how they have UberTwitter installed. lol
Gnome Nov 21, 2009 at 5:29 am
and SocialScope! Why stick to one twitter client when you can have three?
Ramathorn Nov 21, 2009 at 12:18 am
No 4.5 support? I'm running 4.5 and my buddy hasn't even upgraded to that on his 8330. Not everyone can afford a brand new 5.0 device. Where's the love? Trend this topic.. #FAIL! LOL :)
mp5wes Nov 21, 2009 at 12:22 am
Is this worth deleting ubertwitter and putting this in?
TimJBart Nov 21, 2009 at 5:07 am
For me, this is better than ubertwitter. Seems a bit snappier
tony bag o donuts Nov 21, 2009 at 7:03 am
No support to be found for 4.5 or anything less then, but in all reality who would be running anything less then anyways? Give it a shot, let us know how it works in the comments.
I run 4.5 and am quite happy with it.....my curve serves me well thank you very much....
ulnek Nov 21, 2009 at 7:27 am
seems good. one thing that annoys me is that it constantly displays the icon in the message indicator area. it doesn't ever go away unlike all the other message icons. even ubertwitter wasn't like that. wonder why they thought it was a good idea to do that.
sedalia066 Nov 21, 2009 at 7:40 am
Love this one on my 9000. Fast and friendly. Already one of my favorite apps. We will see how this holds over time but today I am delighted.
bubbasixx Nov 21, 2009 at 8:21 am
...that all of these app developers could just come together and make ONE Twitter app that does everything! I downloaded Seesmic and am running it side-by-side with Ubertwitter to try to compare features and function.
Uber is great. I have been using this for months and I love all of the features it has.
And I like Seesmic as it looks real sharp and flows very well but it is missing a bunch of simple things as well.
I would think that if you are going to launch the 23rd version of a Twitter app you would want to make sure it contained EVERYTHING possible for Twitter. Something simple like being able to see your followers should be a no-brainer.
If Seesmic adds a bunch more features it will definitely be a winner but for now I am going to stick with Uber.
dallen50 Nov 21, 2009 at 9:08 am
Are you an idiot or just stupid? Quite a large base of pre-4.6 BB are still in use! Believe me, if a 4.6 or later OS was available for my 8320 (which is STILL being SOLD!) were available, I would switch, but it is not!
SoCaliTrojan Nov 21, 2009 at 12:20 pm
It could be that the toolset that they need are available on the 4.6 OS and later. The toolset that an operating system provide gives programmers a list of abilities. For example, it might give a "set time" command which will let programmers change the time on the device.
If they wanted to support 4.5, they'd have to program their client off an older OS, which would mean that they wouldn't be able to take advantage of added functionalities in 4.6 and later OSs.
To support 4.5 and 4.6+, they would have to make the client twice, possibly with the 4.5 client lacking certain features. Considering that this is just a beta version, why would they dish out a beta version for another os when the beta they made still has issues.
They can either choose to cater to the older generation phones, or they can try to cater for the current and future generation of phones. If you ran a business, which one would you pick? I think the future generation will make more money than the older generation that already has other clients available for it.

IMO I wouldn't have wasted the space on the home page on this app. Ran it since everyone got hot and bothered about it yesterday afternoon. Let it run all night and, despite having it set to check for new tweets every 60, and my tweets set to 200, all I got for my trouble was the silly icon that affixed itself to my banner and refused to vacate. The good news is it doesn't leak. The bad news it that it's so utterly lacking in even the most basic features that for me it's unusable. Uninstalled and restarting now. Guess it's back to TG for me until I get a SS invite (right.)
Nology Nov 21, 2009 at 9:19 am
How does this compare to uber twitter?
youagain Nov 21, 2009 at 10:55 am
I do like the interface. It seems to lag a bit when composing a tweet and hitting the space bar twice wont get you a fullstop. Most annoying is that the icon wont go away. I'll stick to Twixtreme for now.
absolutelyamazin1 Nov 21, 2009 at 10:31 pm
I agree with you. The double space is a killer for me as well as the icon never going away.
mediabb Nov 21, 2009 at 11:34 am
Congrats Seemsic! Does anyone know if app is harsh on battery life.
mike340t Nov 21, 2009 at 11:54 am
Too many twitter apps.... Twixtreme.. does it all for me and it's always running with zero impact on my battery..
SoCaliTrojan Nov 21, 2009 at 12:10 pm
I'm giving this client a try for the weekend, and then I'm going back to twixtreme. Twixtreme works great for me, except when I re-tweet, it sometimes drops half of what I'm quoting.
The Seesmic client has these issues:
- No blackberry navigation (ie: pressing T to go to the top)
- No blackberry auto-correct (you have to capitalize your own words, etc)
- If someone mentions another user's name, you can't click on it to get their profile or to follow that user. You have to memorize the user's name and run back and "search twitter" to find a tweet from the user.
- The notification icon stays on even if there are 0 updates.
- It doesn't have a feature that Twixtreme has: Twixtreme lets me find tweets nearby based on city or the tweet's geotag. I like following local users: I tend to find out tidbits about special events happening close to where I am.
- It makes the text smaller so it can fit more tweets on the screen. It's slightly harder to read, but I guess it is a step-up from Twixtreme making everything look pretty.
I do like the Seesmic client in that it seems to be extremely fast for me. It looks clean and seems to have more menu options.
The only problem is that it seems to be a client that is designed to keep you updated when you're away from your primary tweeting device: your computer. However, most users only use the computer to register on Twitter, and then they switch to their mobile devices to tweet regularly. The ONLY time I ever log into Twitter on a computer is to see a list of people I'm following and people who are following me. I only do this once every 2 or 3 months.
mookish Nov 21, 2009 at 2:39 pm
yea more twitter apps! why release an app that doesn't even top what's already available? Pick my app even tho there's better apps already out there! what's next? more flashlight apps?
Diggs31 Nov 21, 2009 at 4:33 pm
I would be running something less...pardon me if I'm not comfortable with the idea of having my berry get bricked up because of some leaked OS. I will stick with 4.5...and once Seismic makes a version for 4.5 I will gladly try it...until then, sticking with Ubertwitter.
INKGUY79 Nov 21, 2009 at 6:54 pm
this application dosen't work on my blackberry strom will not let me tweet or reply to tweets or DM anyone...
absolutelyamazin1 Nov 21, 2009 at 10:20 pm
I like this App. Very nice.
moshpit21 Nov 22, 2009 at 3:53 pm
Tried on my VZW Tour 9630 with OS 4.7.1.61 didn't work. It won't login. Anyone have the same problem?
reddmann1976 Nov 22, 2009 at 4:01 pm
I still don't think it's better then UberTwitter...
First of all, if you want to add a picture from your SD card to your Tweet you can't preview the photos.
Second... On UberTwitter your mentions are highlighted on the public timeline.
If Seesmic can add those small features and they can have the icon removed when the application is closed it would be cool.
So for the time being, I'm gonna delete it from my phone :|
samgbx Nov 22, 2009 at 7:00 pm
wont even come up with my friends timeline or anything on mine! sucks :(
StudioDraven Nov 22, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Same here. Doesn't show me a thing. Back to Ubertwitter for me.
deezythekid Nov 23, 2009 at 12:13 pm
when i downloaded this on my storm 9350 i LOVED it. I seriously almost deleted ubertwitter for it. BUT after one day of use it will no longer let me post new tweets, @replys, or direct messages. Theres some features that should be added as well. like the ability to follow people from the app. when they get all these issues worked out i mite try it again. i already deleted it from my device and tried reinstalling it to see if it would fix these issues. but it didn't. i'm stickin with ubertwitter. its the best twitter app i've found for bb so far. and i've tried alot of apps.
Linsey Nov 23, 2009 at 1:29 pm
I like it better than my TwitterBerry except for the new message icon not going away. Back to TwitterBerry until that gets fixed and then I'll definately switch.
sunrisepromo#CB Dec 10, 2009 at 1:07 pm
I think I'm deleting UberTwitter - what with the banner ads and the length of time I have to wait when it's grabbing new tweets, I like Seesmic a lot better.
I'd still trade them all in for a client that allows posting to both Twitter and Facebook at the same time. TweetDeck for BlackBerry would be ideal....
