If you're a Scotiabank customer, you may be pleased to know they've now become the first bank in Canada to offer a mobile wallet for credit and debit cards on both Android and BlackBerry devices. Announced earlier this week, Scotiabank unveiled a series of enhancements to its mobile payment service, My Mobile Wallet.
The announced enhancements will allow any customer with an eligible Android or BlackBerry smartphone from Rogers, Bell, Virgin Mobile, TELUS or Koodo Mobile to simply tap their mobile phone to pay for debit and credit purchases at all Interac Flash or Visa payWave enabled terminals. Additionally, customers will continue to be able to store and use their SCENE loyalty card to earn and redeem SCENE points at Cineplex Entertainment theaters and a growing number of SCENE partners.
For BlackBerry, the announcement goes beyond the Scotiabank app supporting a number of BlackBerry 10 devices such as the BlackBerry Z10, BlackBerry Q10, BlackBerry Q5, BlackBerry Z30 and the BlackBerry Classic, that support was already in place. It also takes advantage of their three-year deal with EnStream for secure financial transactions as Scotiabank will be using BlackBerry-powered EnStream to power the secure payment capabilities through the My Mobile Wallet app.
As outlined on the Inside BlackBerry Biz Blog, EnStream counts on the BlackBerry infrastructure to accomplish the following:
- Manage customer credentials, connect SIM cards and phones to carrier's customer information, and dynamically manage card data; and
- Encrypts personal information and credit card information, ensuring it can safely be transmitted to mobile devices;.
The combined efforts of Scotiabank, EnStream, BlackBerry and Canadian mobile operators means customers can use their NFC-enabled smartphones for pay-by-tap at their favorite stores and restaurants in a fast, reliable and secure manner.
