LiNK seems like a great system and would be great for me, however, I wouldn't buy it because of the necessary subscription.

Same here, drop the subscription and I would be more then happy to buy the entire system for my vacation home.

subscription is def major turn off.

arent we just all tired of having all these bills creep up every month. its not like they're not payable.. its just inconvenient sometimes and you get that feeling sometimes that you wish you paid once and got done with it.
isnt there an app for that? ;-)

Give me 2 options, 1 time fee, or monthly subscription,

Kinda like Serious Radio did for a while

I really do want one,

I would think twice about buying one.
As a locksmith.. these deadbolts are made for parts of the country that have stable temps in the winter and summer.
If you live in the North-East part of the country where temps bet below freezing your out of luck. unless your in an apartment complex, but then again they might not let you intall it. You must also be in a "Paging" service area to get the service.

The Functional Operating temp for these locks are 5F / 140F

I also don't think it will catch on. A subscription service... after dropping a few hundred bucks..

My cost to install one would be around $350.00. that includes the lock and the install.

The subscription fee is going to always be a major turn-off for a majority of people... especially people educated enough to know there are a lot of other alternatives out there that cost you nothing more than an internet connection monthly once the hardware and installation is done.

I've done work with friends of mine who are in the business of setting up security for business and homes, and I'd bet dollars to donuts with a few hundred dollars to play with, they could set up a higher-quality, transparent, more robust "all-access" system that would last longer and require no monthly additional subscription fee to do what this system does and more.

But hey, I'll give Schlage a hand clap for trying to build a cash-portal - albeit coming to the wireless home security/internet link party a decade or so late.
