Much in the same fashion as Staples business customers, Rogers employees can now grab a BlackBerry PlayBook at a pretty sweet discount. Emails were sent out earlier to employees letting them know that they can now grab a new PlayBook for as little as $249.99 for the 16GB version. The 32GB and 64GB versions are $349 and $399 respectively. If you work for Rogers and don't have a PlayBook, this is really too good of a deal to pass up. Unfortunately is doesn't look like the average Joe can grab one at this price (that we can see anyway), but here's to hoping we seem some other discounts/sales soon for those looking to pickup a new PlayBook.

I don't understand why everyone is dissing on the playbook. My friend has it and loves the thing, but I guess it's personal prefrance.

Agreed, a good friend of mine has a 9900 and a Playbook and it never leaves his side, two of my relatives have ipads and they think my touchpad is junk. Its all very 'personal preference', and really comes down to what your want and 'need' your tablet to do.

My 17 year old daughter can't stand the iPad and loves the PlayBook. I guess there is hope for the next generation .....

only an "iDiot" would diss this device.. i just love the sharing feature of playbook where you can drag and drop files to its folders over the network.

Anyone who works at Rogers that would be willing to hock me up at that awesome price please PM me. I will pay for all costs and shipping. Please please PM if you can.

Beware: I want to get one too but after seeing this I doubt its credible..........

Same for me

Anyone who works at Rogers that would be willing to hock me up at that awesome price please PM me. I will pay for all costs and shipping. Please please PM if you can! :)

Wow... Kind of annoys me that I paid 500 for mine, have had it for almost 5 months of uselessness, and these people are gonna buy it for half price + a 100 gift card... All just in time for v2.0 (what the pb SHOULD have been from the start)...

this is what RIM should have done back in April, flood the Market with Playbooks, word of mouth is the best marketing. I had mine since April and no regrets, just hate typing on the screen!

I got the same deal through my friend's Telus account. So I picked up a PlayBook and now maybe a 9900 for $5. :-)
See, RIM should just go for volume and then later bring out a new LTE version for example and put that at the regular price. It'll sell like hotcakes and you get the numbers back.... and the branding back in the positive.

hey do you think you can hook the deal up? you can keep the gift card for your troubles.

let me know. Thanks

If any Rogers employee's are interested, I'd be interested in purchasing a 16gb PB through them and as a thanks, they're welcome to keep the included prepaid MC. PM me if you're interested.

hey JaieJT,

if you can hook up that deal with me I'd like to buy two of the 16gigs. your friend as well as yourself can keep the two gift MC that come with it.

let me know if you can hook it up.

Thanks

The 16 GBs are actually out of stock as of today :( send me your email. I don't know how to 'PM'

Hey JaieJT,

I sent you a PM yesterday, but I see by your comment that you don't know how to access them.

http://forums.crackberry.com/private.php

If you follow the link above, that will take you to your PM's. If you could please help me out with a Playbook 64GB, I would be very greatful. I put some more details in the PM, but I would pay the shipping and you can keep the Mastercard.

Thanks!

I would like to purchase one with the employee discount, if an employee is out there and I can use your discount pm me. I will pay for all the cost. Lmk.

Contact your manager, apparently not all employees get the email. I had to ask my manager to forward the link and I just bought 3 PB :D

I work for o2 in the UK and this is very similar to what they did with the Samsung Galaxy Tab right before we discontinued it in around 70% of the stores, staff got a really good deal. We then limited the stores which sold the product because of poor sales.

Might be a similar to whats happening here. I think the playbook is doing quite well in the UK because of the bundled deals some stores like Phones 4 U are doing, where you get a 9300 and the playbook free on a £37 a month tariff.

o2 aren't selling the playbook until full calendar and e-mail support is integrated.

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried to buy one at these employee prices and claimed the $100 Mastercard Giftcard from RIM? I didn't notice on the RIM website anything stated that a employee of a third party (Rogers, Telus, Futureshop, what have you) company selling the Playbook not being able to take advantage of this deal.

To give out discounts to a retailer's employees makes a lot of sense.

Think about it, no one knows how to use a PlayBook, you can ask a sales rep to demonstrate how to use the PlayBook and he/she will be completely clueless.

But providing a price cut to these employees would make the PlayBook somewhat more appealing, after that people start talking about the pros, developers begin developing applications and the device begins slowly selling more.

Basically the sales strategy, get the device to the hands of the retailers, have them play with it, not as a device out on loan, or training but as a personal device. It gives them hands on experience and the ability to market the device properly.

If any employee of Rogers in Ottawa would be willing to purchase this for me (16gig) I'd really appreciate it.. PM me and we can work it out.

Thanks a lot

I have the Blackberry Playbook 16gig from Telus. It is brand new and if you want it you only have to pay what I paid for it which is $340, but I get to keep the gift card. Please let me know if you are interested. PM me.

Thanks

Just got my playbook delivered today! sweeeeeeeeet! I grabbed the 16GB! now me, the wife and Dad all have a playbook, i grabbed 3 units for the cost of 1 Ipad.... screw you apple LOL!

If anyone out there is still able to get the deal, I am very interested. I am looking for a 64GB ideally, but I will take what I can get.

Please PM me.

I ordered one Sept 19 and it STILL hasn't arrived. I get an email every second day stating "Your Rogers Hardware Order Is On Back Order."

Sure, it's nice that I was able to get one for such a low price, but it's somewhat of an annoyance to have to wait so long for your purchase. Typical Rogers service.
