RIM UK & Ireland appoint Rob Orr as new Managing Director

By James Richardson on 20 Aug 2012 09:27 am EDT

Research in Motion are having a little leadership change around in the UK and Europe. Rob Orr has been appointed as the new Managing Director for RIM UK & Ireland and will take up the new position on September 1st. Rob is currently the Vice President for Product Management in Europe, Middle East and the Africa region and has been with RIM for six years.

Stephen Bates, the current MD has a newly created position within the company - as Regional Managing Director for Europe and will be responsible for customer engagement, market responsiveness and employee focus across the Europe.

The changes are all part of RIM's plans to ensure Europe is structured to be fully focused on selling BlackBerry 7 devices and BlackBerry Mobile Fusion as well as being prepared for the launch of BlackBerry 10.

Loved Bobby Orr when he was with the Bruins!

Probably a good move since Rim is always playing defense!

Bobby Orr -- great on offense too. Usually finished in the top 10 in point scoring. The BBs (Boston Bruins) were a great team. A marketing ploy for RIM -- give ten Boston Bruins the new BlackBerry and PlayBook, and call them The BB10.

i wonder who is the product manager for Indonesia market?

How come they used a black and white picture that looks like for for a eulogy?

Just wonder who has been responsible for Pan-European strategy until now. In my country BB brand awareness is quite low and BB devices sales unfortunately correspond with brand awareness. I wish new regional MD for Europe/current UK MD good luck and I hope that things can only get better.

Congrats to Rob Orr :)

Happy to see someone new! :)
