Hong Kong Association of Interactive Marketing (HKAIM) and Research In Motion (RIM) jointly hosted a briefing session on December 5, 2012. HKAIM and RIM introduced to developers the business opportunities that can be achieved with the BlackBerry 10 platform and participants were given the chance to see a live hands-on demo of this new and exciting platform.
The briefing received an overwhelming response with a number of developers attending the event enthusiastically. Among them were some of the most renowned in the industry as well as a host of young developers. The briefing successfully demonstrated the confidence of the application development industry in the BlackBerry 10 platform.
"The best aspects of building for BlackBerry are the huge BlackBerry user base and attractive monetization opportunities that are provided. Since we started in 2006, we have earnt more revenue from the BlackBerry platform than from any other platform. We have tried monetizing on other platforms but we found that it was not easy to do so." said Patrick Kosiol, CEO of S4BB Limited, a well-known app developer in Hong Kong.
According to a VisionMobile Survey (2012) only 2.3% of BlackBerry developers make no money from their applications, much less when compared to Android (9%), iOS (6.8%) and Windows Phone (8.1%) platforms. Together with the BlackBerry 10k Commitment, BlackBerry Dev Alpha Device Swap, the BlackBerry Dev Alpha program (announced by RIM earlier this year), and the easy-to-use development tools, developers are able to get considerable financial rewards from their applications.
To make sure that interested developers', development progress goes smoothly, a BlackBerry Application Development Workshop will be organized by HKAIM and RIM to provide technical support to developers, with testing units of the latest BlackBerry 10 handset also being available for testing onsite.
Schedule of BlackBerry Application Development Workshop:
Date: 15th & 17th December 2012
Time: 10:00am - 1:00pm
Venue: RIM Office@15/F, Cityplaza Three, 14 Tai Koo Wan Road, Hong Kong
