As you all know by now, Facebook v2.0 was released yesterday for both BlackBerry smartphones and the BlackBerry PlayBook. If you were never signed up for the BlackBerry Beta Zone, this is likely your first time at seeing all the new features RIM has implemented in v2.0. The folks over at the Inside BlackBerry blog have gone ahead and done up a demo video for us all so that we can see all those features in action. It's pretty cool to see the new features and all but maybe using the BlackBerry Bold 9900 wasn't the best idea really. I was more focused on it then the actual walkthrough of Facebook. That reminds me, how about some release dates for the Bold 9900 RIM?

RIM demos new Facebook v2.0 features, teases us all by showing it on a BlackBerry Bold 9900

Bla1ze, I couldnt agree with you more. I was drawn to the phone like a moth to a flame! ;)
+1 except I'd have to use this simile:
"Like a crack addict to crack"
Release the phone already :o)
A huge update from the last version. I love the new UI and contrary to what a lot of people are saying, I think that there are several subtle differences in the interface that allows the BlackBerry app for Facebook to be very unique from the Android or iOS versions (I also have an iPod Touch and I like the app a lot better on my BlackBerry now compared to the iOS version).
Hi @00stryder,
Alex from RIM here. Glad you’re enjoying the new Facebook app. I’m also a huge fan of the new UI and features in this update – it feels like the navigation is quicker and smoother than ever! We also just launched the Facebook 2.0 app for PlayBook, which you can check out and download here: http://bbry.lv/rtDEpC.
Last but certainly not least, we love to hear about how BlackBerry users are putting our products to use. When you can, I’d love to hear a few examples – either here, on Twitter (@BlackBerry) or on Facebook (http://bbry.lv/bdmrXv).
Cheers,
Alex, RIM Social Media Team
so he works for blackberry but is actually holding what looks like an iPhone...or am i wrong :P
p.s. Iv had 2.0 beta for so long now, the only reason i came to watch was cause its beeing shown on a 9900 *drools
That's the 9900 with the "for official use only sticker". From the angle that it is held, it does look like the iPhone though.
RIM is such a Tease!! :-)
I'm shocked that RIM has gone so long without releasing a new handset. I thought for sure that the Bold 9900 would have been out by now. I'm just hoping that the rumors aren't true that AT&T won't be carrying the 9900 until November. Does anyone have any updates as to whether or not AT&T has started testing the 9900?
That 9900 is so damn fast, I want one like yesterday
Dang....that phone is FAST! Can't wait to get me one.
It seems sort of in bad taste to use the 9900 to preview fb 2.0
RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!!!!!!!!
Just seeing that gentleman on the left holding the device made me want it even more-- that phone is soooooooooooo thin. Then zipping around on the touch screen. Le sigh!
I can't wait for this phone to be released. It's just GORGEOUS SUPER FAST, AND VERY THIN. Does anyone knows anything about mobile hotspot on this?
i dont have a blackberyy anymore, i now have a WP7, but this looks GREAT..this might be one of the best facebook apps out there for any platform
Can't wait. But I'll have to. Lol.
anyone else been using this version of facebook for months from the beta zone if is that just me? haha
still doesn't look quick enough, everything was preloaded in this demo. too small, too much text.
Yeah it is definitely optimized for the newer phones. Hey here is an idea RIM, why don't you release the new phones so we have something better to run Facebook 2.0 on!!!
nice update to the FB app. I like it so far.
It is plenty fast on my 9700 with OS6. Will still upgrade to 9900 though. :)
Why do I keep tapping the screen of my 9700?
Release this phone already!!!
The facebook app runs slower on my Storm 1. Lol... Need one of those new devices. But seriously its good, its just not 9900 good.
BlackBerry has caught up with other platforms with their Facebook app, but still trails other manufacturers with their hardware.
Those are some handsome peeps lolz
Great application ! Much better than the last version . My problem with this application is that my virtual keyboard collapses on my BB torch 9800 any time I hit the 'enter key 'to send a chat message when on the Facebook chat.
And it slows me down a lot.
Been using FB v2 on my Tour for about 5 months, it's plenty quick and an upgrade from the previous version. I can imagine it will only be better on a faster phone too. My contract is up and I'm just waiting for this phone to be released already!
Question: They make the comment that the App can use Wifi. Is Wifi use dependent on the App? Not all Apps use Wifi if the phone is connected to a Wifi connection? I thought if the phone had a Wifi connection all data went through the Wifi and not data plan. Which is it?
I love the new app as well. I got in on the beta. I don't know about anyone else, but I continue to have notification issues! I still get the FB icon on my phone whenever someone posts a comment, I've turned notifications off, cleared cache, logged out, battery pull, blah blah blah, & I still get it. I went back to the beta .23 version where I didn't have this issue. Come on, RIM! When you turn off notifications in the app, they should actually TURN OFF!
Would someone please explain to me how to go from News Feeds to Status Updates? I'm sick of reading about Farmville and Egg hunting news feeds!!!!!!!!! And Cooking! I don't cook at home. Why do I care about your how many people you need to cook for and seat?!
