I'm not gonna lie. I might get me one of these when they come out.

I just don't see the need for another device. For RIM's sake, I hope this is successful but I have no desire to own one, even as a gift. Well, OK I'll take one as a gift, but who's going to drop that kind of cash on me?

I'm sure there's a market for these things but so far I'm not a part of those demographics.

:)

Love to see this thing when it comes out. Could be a nice travel companion for business users if they have the right set of features and functions.

According to the screen-shot from the manufacturer of your source (Apple Daily), the tablet will be amazingly Android-based!!!

November? That's my Birthday. I'll also take one...as a gift.Lol. Hopefully RIM pulls through with this one. I doubt it....I think everyone has already bought an iPad. Come on RIM....stop playing catch up.

Posted by dmann96 Monday, Aug 09, 2010 655 days ago

That's a little pricey don't ya think there RIM. You won't have a 3G version limiting yourself most liely to those that already have a BlackBerry. I just don't know how wise a move that price point is unless the specs beat Apple and HP for that matter. The iPad makes since because the developers are already on board.

Lots of concern on this... Also, the better have Flash ready for this as well.

No one mentioned that the pic is obviously photoshopped. Soo not real. Can't wait to see REAL pic of the BB tablet.

Posted by coreyk86 Tuesday, Aug 10, 2010 654 days ago

I was just gonna say, that thing looks a little big, even for a tablet

Posted by chirmer Tuesday, Aug 10, 2010 654 days ago

Haha yeah, it's a really bad photoshop job :/ there's no shadows by his hands, to show depth and that his fingers aren't completely flat haha. Fail.

Posted by VirtualVenom Monday, Aug 09, 2010 655 days ago

Probably going to be exclusive to AT&T.

Posted by crush29830 Monday, Aug 09, 2010 655 days ago

I really hope its not really as big as the one in the photo. It looks like a flat screen tv lol!

Posted by stevejb Monday, Aug 09, 2010 655 days ago

I'm curious to know where this is being aimed really.

I've looked at the ipad, but i have an issue with it's UK pricing for what it actually does for me.

However, if the RIM tablet will do the stuff of a ipad and will also be a companion to my BB such as speakerphone, dialling, email comms, tele conference, maybe even an output to connect to a projector etc then i would be really quite interested.

Posted by mciriello Monday, Aug 09, 2010 655 days ago

This is going to be a huge FAIL...no question. RIM has never built a PC and they don't even have a decent touchscreen phone OS. A tablet caters to none of the BB's strengths - how will they even market this thing?

Posted by paulwright1 Monday, Aug 09, 2010 655 days ago

I think not. And RIM will by no means fail with there version of the tablet. Let me guess, you also think RIM is going to be bought out by Palm right? And Rim is going under because of the Storm 1?

Posted by chirmer Tuesday, Aug 10, 2010 654 days ago

Apple and the iPad is a bad comparison, because the big hits with the iPad are the email capabilities (being able to see your Exchange folders, as opposed to Blackberries, the "better emailing" device, where you STILL cannot without additional software) and the apps. The iPad has a HUGE application market, plus the iBooks, and Apple has the best touchscreen, hands down. There's no way the BlackPad or whatever is going to be nearly as successful, unless they bring something really innovative, and drop the price. RIM is not on the best of terms with customers right now, so what consumer base is this going to appeal to? The ones who already have an iPad? lol

Posted by pkcable Monday, Aug 09, 2010 655 days ago

I'm getting one for Christmas!

Posted by jmundi Monday, Aug 09, 2010 655 days ago

I don't see the audience for this. A majority of my BB use is email and calendar and I already have a bigger tool to manage that, it's what my PC/Laptop is for. Second Thought: Interesting speculaton on the OS, and I don't know enough about QNX to comment, but I'd have to assume it runs "native" BB apps, otherwise there wouldn't be enough day 1 apps to make this successful.

Good luck RIM.

Good afternoon
I am glad to see Blackberry is releasing new items. Please enter me into the contest.
Crackberry is a great site. The research I have done on cell phones over time has had great information, reviews, and instruction. Keep up the good work.
Thank you

If they release this tablet in november... The retailers better put it on sale boxing day. Seems like an interesting direction for RIM, but let's see how it pans out in the long run...Wish you the best RIM.

the fact that RIM thinks this thing will sell speaks volumes to their disillusions about who they even are as a company at this point. For years people have been screaming about how "RIM is a business company, they aren't concerned about the consumer market." Clearly RIM thinks they're Apple at this point. They've just lost $2.47 billion in the last 2 days in stock prices, and now this tablet... Come on RIM, you are truly making a mistake here with this device. It's going to be same old boring OS with the same old lack of software for it because nobody is developing for blackberry. You can go get an android tablet today at kmart for under $200 and it blows this thing away. Think about it, by the time this is out it will be one of the worst tablets on the market. RIM isn't a consumer market, and now they aren't a business market, they're a 'ME TOO GUYS ME TOO" There was a point in time where RIM was f'ing innovative, now they're just old hat catching up. I'll give RIM 2 years at this point, they're done.

Posted by Witmen Tuesday, Aug 10, 2010 654 days ago

You have obviously never used the Kmart tablet before. Seriously the Augen Gentouch78 is horrible. You think $149 how bad could it be? Very very bad. It is so bad that it wasn't even worth my gas money to drive to kmart, Buy it and play with it for a few days before returning it. The entire time I was using it I was frustrated, it is by far the worse touch screen device I've ever used and it made the Storm 1 look amazing. Maybe the fact that Augen pirated android has something to do with it sucking so bad.

I'm sure the BB tablet will fail. But RIM would have to try really hard to release as bad a device as the Gentouch78.

What service will carry it. I hope not at&t, they charge too much for data plans if not grandfathered. Would like to see Sprint get this one....

I am waiting to see what this pad can do before I put it down or praise it. Tablet's are the future of computing and RIM is trying to get their foot in the little crack of the door. We must remember that competition can be good(or bad) and Apple seems to be the only one that has a Tablet out on the market. I am not a RIM/Apple/whatev... fanboy.
*This could be an extension device for the phone's that have OS6 along with possibly being a stand-alone device. We will have to see in these coming and trying months*

Lol at all these comments! People talking out the side of their ass like they run a fortune 500 company and whip up products exactly when the market needs them! Now thoughts and opinions isn't a bad thing but the talking idiots who think their opinions run the market is just hilarious!!

But outside of people who already own a Blackberry, who is going to buy it? Unless they pitch it as the serious touch screen tablet, for people doing serious work aside from the ipad?

But in general, its cool that Apple breathed new life into the tablet industry, but I still don't see the point unless you are doing some serious traveling. Out side of that, I fail to see why I need a smart phone, tablet, AND a laptop, unless these tablets are going to replace netbooks?

Posted by Jake Storm Monday, Aug 09, 2010 654 days ago

"unless these tablets are going to replace netbooks?"

I think that's exactly the niche market they are aiming for.
It seems to be the companies (Apple, RIM, Google) that don't currently have a netbook, are the companies coming out with tablets.

Posted by HTC_Droid_EvO Monday, Aug 09, 2010 655 days ago

Its not needed...Apple did it, and now everyone has one coming but when you are RIM and your OS is already not user friendly then its like ....why ???

Android and Palm/HP have one coming ....I alway want to see a vast diffrence in theres form apple.

Posted by Jake Storm Monday, Aug 09, 2010 654 days ago

If it's out before Christmas, I'll be getting a couple of them.
One for a gift and one for myself!

If my Blackberry already works wonders on my small screen and phone. What would be the point of having it on a bigger screen? Do I really need BBM on a 9.7 inch screen?

Posted by 5dollarsheep Monday, Aug 09, 2010 654 days ago

I really hope they make smaller ones, ya i know keyboards need space... but DAMN! Going by the "picture" it looks like he needs to store that in the trunk of his car hahaha! Its definitely not real.... I hope. Can you imagine whippen out that baby on a plane? I like it, but i also don't... I mean that thing can like also be my tv in some rooms haha.

Posted by simplayer Monday, Aug 09, 2010 654 days ago

It's supposed to carry a 10" screen.

Posted by Bazza1 Monday, Aug 09, 2010 654 days ago

The only way that RIM could may a go of such a device is;

a) ensure it is not a companion (aka iPad or the ill-fated Palm Folio) device. A case for others of 'been there, done that', RIM would have to produce a fully-featured and self-contained device capable of doing everything without the need to sync / connect to a 'real' computer.
b) offer an intuitive and user-friendly GUI - something that OS6 has shown they haven't a handle on yet.
c) dramatically increase the products in their App Store, with a corresponding drop in price for these.
d) prove the device can do things that other similar devices cannot do. Their one current claim to fame - security - is up for debate as they appear to relinquish access to governments (and potentially others)with dubious political, human rights and business espionage histories.

Otherwise, why bother - for the consumer, at least.

Posted by zensen Tuesday, Aug 10, 2010 654 days ago

I agree with every point but a device like this will definitely mean re-tooling of current apps and creation of new ones and that can only be a good thing for tablet of this size.

Point A raises a very important issue that i have with the iPad. it's not really a standalone device and relies on other devices to simple things that notebooks and netbooks have done for a very long time.

Posted by pattste Monday, Aug 09, 2010 654 days ago

What a stupid idea. Come up with something like the iPad (only with minimal specs), a year after the iPad and at the same price as the iPad. What are people going to run on it? When you look at the application catalog, it's pretty dismal with led color customizers and battery pull apps as best sellers. Seriously, what are they thinking? Their marketshare is dropping like there's no tomorrow. Every product looks like it's a year late. They're launching a flagship phone who's reception in the press and amongst Berry heads is lukewarm at best. Something like half the respondents to a survey here on CrackBerry say they'll defect to the iPhone or Android (and we're talking Blackberry enthousiasts, here). Meanwhile they waste precious resources, time and money to come up with a Blackberry tablet? Are they insane?

Posted by MrcleMakn Monday, Aug 09, 2010 654 days ago

Why don't they call it the "BlackTab", its a tablet... is it not!?!? The "BlackPad" name, it's so close to Apple iPad!!

Posted by CamGleaton Monday, Aug 09, 2010 654 days ago

Dude, this is a fake picture. Look at the size of the thing! My coffee table would crash with one of these sitting on it. Tell me I'm not the only that notices this!!!

Interesting post I'm just curious why RIM is not trying to give more specs than what we hear on these leaks bout this pad with only 2 an half months till release why wouldn't they start letting ppl know more bout this product an what it can do an why there asking so much other than the fact that they've lost so profit over the past year if it wasn't for these sites like crackberry an other sites for BB. PPI wouldn't even know at all so why doesn't RIM advertise more bout there products just make since.

I could definetly see a market for this product. with the explosion of touch screen devices in the past 5 years, tablet or handheld, i think RIM is going in the right direction. HP, I-pad, are all useful devices if you are into the media features, this is the perfect product for someone who likes touch screen media, and the ability to have a push network of BIS or BES on their personel computer.

Posted by pittsy12 Tuesday, Aug 10, 2010 654 days ago

I would think November would be pretty aggressive. I got this email survey late July:

As you are likely aware, tablet computers are all the rage right now. As such, one of our research partners, Vision Critical, is conducting a study to better understand what technology users (such as you) think about this computing trend. Please note that this study is not part of RIM Market Research, but we thought it was a study you might be interested in.

I would imagine that if the tablet was coming, then this survey would only be for slight tweaks at this point...

I also thought I heard somewhere that you'd have to tether your BB to the tablet in order to get any kind of service. I guess that makes sense so as to not be tied to any carrier...

I wonder how this blackpad will work. There seems to be quite potential for this product but hopefully rim doesn't approach this product wrong

if it works with Tether, sign me up! I don't want to have to pay Verizon more just to use it.
