Review: BerryBuzz for BlackBerry Smartphones

It's been a while since we've checked out BerryBuzz for BlackBerry and there have been quite a few improvements and additions over the last few months. The app is without a doubt one of my favorite applications and one that I can seem to be without. I love being able to kill all the alerts on my device and just have different colored LEDs lighting my way. BerryBuzz is totally customizable and has support for email, phone, SMS, contact alerts and a ton of 3rd party apps. It truly is a great utility for BlackBerry and can totally change the way you use your device. If you haven't yet checked it out, watch the video above to see all thats new in the updated BerryBuzz, then pick it up for yourself for $5.95 in the CrackBerry App Store.

There is also a free slimmed-down version of BerryBuzz (BeBuzz) available in BlackBerry App World. The free version was recently updated with some major fixes for the Torch/OS 6 and is a good trial to see if BerryBuzz is right for you. You can give it a whirl and see how you like it, then upgrade to the full-featured version like the rest of us :-)

Review: BerryBuzz for BlackBerry Smartphones

I'm running 2.1.22 on an 8310 using We ordered our 9650's (Yes, I'm switching to Verizon from AT&T) last night. Will I be able to bump this up to run on 5.0 (and 6.0) when I do my file switch? I know it's only $5 or $6, but hey...

...from version 2... to 3... I believe there was an upgrade charge of a dollar or two. Redownload it from Crackberry or whereever you downloaded it from originally and you should have an upgrade option.

Seriously, nice review, but how you forgot to mention that the apps let you get vibrate & ringtone at the same time which is why most people actually get this apps (option is available in the free version)

But sometimes it gives off random flashes. And even if I'm not using the red LED anymore because it stresses me out, sometimes it still flashes even if I've already turned off all LED notifications in all the profiles that I'm using. Sometimes flashing even if there's no missed call or any notification at all. Another is sometimes, since in general my message alert LED is white, I get the white LED first before the assigned LED color for a contact when they message me. But these don't happen all the time, but they do happen probably once every 5 days? I don't know. Anyway other than these "issues" I think this app is great and I promote it to my other friends using Blackberry.

This looks like a great app for RIM to push since the iPhone has no light to match this (and won't since God Jobs knows what's best, recall the mouse right click). I could see a million adds where you have a scenario where a guy glances at his phone during a meeting and whispers to his colleague "wife wants me" or "boss wants me, how about you?" the iPhone guy is dumbfounded because he can't pull his phone out during a meeting. It isn't crucial but it would be funny. :-)

I like all the new BB ads but most of them so far say things that most iPhone guys are going to say, ya I can do that (I don't think the BBM commercials are understandable to people that don't use BBM) It would be nice to have commercials highlight things that BBs can do that other phones can't, and there are such things. This is one of them.

Why can't I customize the LED for a specific BBM person? ie. my wife's e-mails, calls, texts are all purple - but I can't include her BBM messages, just BBM as a whole (ALL BBM Messages must be same colour).

A one-time pain-in-the-butt to set up, and a bit tricky to figure out, but WOW is it worth it. I love having such customization for each contact, each account, some apps...and the disco flashes are super cool :)

This is on sale today -- IMO, go for it!
