RIM #1 Fastest Growing Company in the World

Research in Motion's Co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie must feel on top of the world right now having been named the #1 Fastest Growing Company in the World by Fortune Magazine. Making the jump into the consumer space with the introduction of the BlackBerry Pearl was huge for the company (right product at the right time), and following it up with the uber-popular BlackBerry Curve and now newer next-generation devices like the Bold, Storm and Tour have allowed the company to increase its grasp of the growing US smartphone market up to a whopping 56%.

While being #1 is sweet, it's also a tricky position to be in as it's impossible to continue the skyrocketing growth forever. So to the boys and girls in Waterloo and working for RIM around the globe... we hope you celebrated hard tonight, as the smartphone competition out there is getting fiercer by the minute and there's no shortage of work to be done. We have faith in you... let's keep it locked at #1!

No wonder they haven't been able to put out a good OS update for the Storm, they're to busy celebrating. I'm not sure they were quite ready for this rapid growth, we'll see how they adapt.

With all the media talk and print out there about the iPhone it is always amazing to see these type of numbers. The iPhone success cannot be disputed, but when they add up ALL of the sales for ALL BlackBerry models, there is no other number One.

Also, I can agree with some of the complaints some members have about the dated OS, the UI improvement possibilities, ect., but look who is still number 1 in smartphone sales. And now the fastest growing company in the world.

This does mean that they will need to step it up in Waterloo to maintain thier position and continue to attract new customers arund the world.

Congratulations RIM! Keep up the good work!

How do you feel Mr. iPhone? BB rocks, hey lets all buy stocks this week.

By: Crunch | Date: Tue, 08/18/2009 - 16:23

Man...we could all be rich now. RIM's stock was down and out @ $22 USD right when the stock market went to crap. Now, it's $77 USD. That is TWO AND A HALF times more in LESS THAN A YEAR, and RIM's market share also went up by 150% (one and one half times) reaching a STUNNING 56%.

All this during the intense competition from Apple's iPhone, which makes RIM's story even more improbable.

And no, buying stock now will be of no use, as RIM cannot possibly continue wiping out competitor after competitor. You might gain some percentage points, but the big winner in stocks none of us can ever be with RIMM (<-- NYSE symbol). lol...

We should have bought stock in the company when it was worth 22%. That's what I am pissed about not doing myself. !@#$%^&*
