My school's B-ball team (GO BUTLER!) is coming back at 2am, we're having a party/pep rally, and I can't use my phone. Figures.

My BBM and Internet seems to be working. I am in Toronto, Canada on Fido with a Rogers branded BB 9700.

Anyone else notice their service has not gone down?

Posted by Starchest Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Why are you talking about service not being down? It's 10 minutes to 1 am CT, geez.

Posted by pnarsai Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

my internet still works fine. well into the upgrade time and my bb's been fine the whole time.

EDIT: actually i just realized although my internet works....im not getting any new emails!!! thats a good thing for once i guess.

Posted by rbracht Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

An hour and twenty minutes into the 3.0 update and bis still working.. Hmmm

Posted by moyjoy Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Well I was at an Erykah Badu show at the new space at the Hudson Hotel (in nyc) that has 0 service so I barely noticed.

BIS 3.0 is up and running, but no 2way Gmail sync.

Posted by mousky Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

2-way Gmail sync is coming later. RIM wants to ensure that BIS 3.0 is running with no issue before rolling out the 2-way Gmail sync.

Posted by MACKSnare519 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Its 5:42 am and my emails just turned back on.

Posted by j.p.hatfield Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

BIS went out at 1:42 am and back on at 5:45am....anybody have the same blank spot in email delivery/received?

Posted by polishbolduser Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

yup confirmed on pacific time its working :D

Posted by lemcoe9 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

So it seems Verizon hasn't followed suit yet, no surprise. Located in Atlanta

Posted by ebedoun Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I'm on at&t...emails started working again at 5:34am Nothing looks different on the BIS site...at all.

Posted by drummerman2008 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I'm trying to use BIS on my Verizon storm 9550 and the BIS website says my information isn't correct when it is, or my device isn't register with my service provider which I did that on my phone.

Posted by the70sboi Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Woke up in the morning and noticed no change on Rogers. Neither on the phone nor at the BIS management page online.

Ideas?

Posted by flyingspatula Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

+1 no noticeable change on Rogers

Posted by Karlos349 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

No changes for me either. Perhaps this was just a backend upgrade, and the front end changes will follow.

Posted by Matt J Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Same here. No change on Rogers.

Posted by Matt J Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I haven't noticed a single change... anywhere. There is still no two-way sync on GMail. There is no contact sync. What changed?

Posted by msgreenf Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Is there a new version of the gmail plugin? cause when u go to download it, that site is down?

Posted by mpaquette Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Nothing changed for me on VZW.

Posted by jbdale Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Something has happened in Kansas. I had to renenter all of my email account passwords this morning.

Posted by msgreenf Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

probably has more to do with provider then state...

Posted by Roscopcoletrain Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Wasnt that the same last BIS update. RIM does there part, then its up to the carriers to implement it?

Posted by jbdale Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I doubt that

Posted by spookyBooberry Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I got my messages as normal all though the night it appears even when I was sleeping.(phone was on all though the night) Did they forget to do the update I wasn't asked for any password either btw :p

Posted by Matt J Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

The GMail plugin has been updated from 1.0.0.49 to 1.0.0.59 for me. No changes noticed though. Still no two-way sync.

Posted by Jerky223 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

How do you find out which version of the plug-in you have?

Posted by Matt J Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Options > Advanced Options > Applications

Posted by decypher44 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Matt, I don't see it in there. When I check my options while in the messages folder, it shows enhanced plugin, but not what version.

Posted by Matt J Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Not in your mail applications. The Options (i.e. wrench) from you home screen.

Posted by decypher44 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Yeah, I've looked under the wrench. What I'm saying is that I don't see plugin there. The only place I see it is when I'm in my email folder and choose options. Is there the possibility that it was deleted? I've deleted my gmail account and set up up again, hoping that it would do "something", but it didn't.

Posted by Matt J Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Just re-install it:

www.blackberry.com/gmail

Posted by Jerky223 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Okay, I tried the www.blackberry.com/gmail but I'm asked if I want to replace v 2.0.0.32 with 2.0.0.25 (see image).
http://i39.tinypic.com/hrd449.jpg

Posted by Matt J Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

If you are using OS 5.0, then 2.0.0.32 came with the OS. You already have the latest version for OS 5.0

Posted by simplecomplex Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

i'm confused, but maybe i just haven't been paying attention, but my gmail accounts, including google apps (business email powered by google) email accounts have all had the check-box for "sync contacts" at the bis edit page. so was there going to be better sync features rolled-out? or am i just not paying enough attention? im on sprint, tour 9630.

Posted by JRF_8520 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I remember reading the Blackberry site and it said that the 3.0 upgrade is just for the gmail plug-in and speeding up a bit the connections. Gmail should be recieving more options during Spring 2010. So maybe another update for gmail soon?

Posted by ijason Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I'm not noticing anything new here. Do I need to delete my Gmail account and re-add it?

Posted by musicandnumbers Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I called Verizon, since I hadn't seen any changes to my Storm 9550. This is disappointing--they said they have "no idea" when BIS 3.0 is coming to Verizon users. I did advise the cs rep I spoke with that it appears other cell phone providers have pushed it to their customers. The cs rep said that they have been told nothing about BIS 3.0 and it's release to VZW customers.

She then contacted RIM and her "supervisor" and then called me back. Apparently Verizon users should have BIS 3.0 sometime today.

I'm hopeful...but not optimistic!

Posted by lemcoe9 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I'm very confused. Can Verizon opt-out of BIS 3.0? They haven't ever taken to anything RIM has done, and now they are holding back 3.0.

God I hate Verizon.

Posted by luqman24 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I haven't notices a single change except an email that came in at 6:47 CT idk if that tells u anything :s and btw I'm on Fido using a Rogers branded Bold 9000

Posted by JRF_8520 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

And my BIS was working, well atleast I recieved one email. So far haven't noticed anything new, except (maybe my imagination?) My internet connection is a bit faster! I think it is my imagination xD
Did BIS update for all of the americas? Or just North? Mexico is part of north, right? :D

Edit: my Bolt browser (1.7) doesn't stick at the 20% mark anymore!

Posted by bean34 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

What are the (noticable) changes this morning?

Posted by decypher44 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

How can I tell? Also, I can't seem to find the info on my gmail plugin. I must have had a rough weekend so far... I can't remember how to do anything this morning. Thanks.

Posted by PROB1 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Maybe it's just the link I clicked on this morning, but my native browser was almost smokin when it opened the page. It seemed like it was 2 or 3 times faster than it was yesterday. I am with Verizon, running 5.0.0.591 and last soft reset was Saturday morning. If I'm dreaming please don't wake me up, because this is great so far!

Posted by Furgs Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Could this be another case of carriers rolling out on their own after RIM does?

RIm released the 5.0 software and each carrier did it on their own - Still waiting for 5.0 on my curve 8900 from rogers to come out!! :(

Why does Rogers suck with everything?

Love my BB buy why do we have to have carriers release software.

Posted by Bold_until_Hybrid_Comes Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Sick of downtime with no noticable upgrades. Upgrading to iphone or android device soon!

Posted by lcohen999 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

we don't care

Posted by Matt J Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Perhaps it is my imagination, but the native browser seems to load significantly faster after this BIS 3.0 upgrade. Anyone else notice a performance boost? I'm on Rogers.

Posted by sk8er_tor Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

I have noticed the native browser to be very fast at loading pages as well. Using the 8900 with OS 5.0.0.509 on the Rogers network.

Posted by Matt J Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I also noticed that Bolt 2.0 doesn't "stick" at the 20% mark anymore... it blazes through now.

Posted by jetisbac Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

So wait, will this increase the internet speed?

Posted by Matt J Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

It seems to have increased speed on my browsers.

Posted by jetisbac Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Iight. Are you using Verizon?

Posted by acmecocktail Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

How can you tell if you are running BIS 3.0?

Posted by zippox180 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I went into my email settings and clicked on my gmail account and then scrolled to sync options where I found sync contacts and sync deleted items. Is this new? I don't remember seeing it before .hopefully it is . :)

Posted by Matt J Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

If you're using OS 5.0, that was always there.

Posted by zippox180 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Lol damn oh well just never noticed it

Posted by decypher44 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Seriously, can someone please let those of us that are clueless how to tell what BIS version we have? I searched high and low and can't seem to figure it out. I never "log in" to anything. I can't see what version of BIS is in ANY of the settings, I don't see BIS or Enhanced Gmail Plugin under options - Applications... what can I do to see this info?

I feel like I'm losing my mind. Hahaha.

Posted by luqman24 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Haha relax if u haven't noticed anything then ur carrier hasn't rolled it out yet neither did I noticed changes except that my browser it much much faster :D now I'm satisfied with .554 and don't mind if Rogers make it official :D

Posted by decypher44 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I'm on Sprint. I'm pretty sure that they rolled it out. My question is, and always has been, how can I tell? I know that there are a lot of very bright people on here, but I've yet to see how one can tell if it happened. Maybe it's so "behind-the-scenes" that I can't visibly see it anywhere?

Posted by susu222 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

noticed everything seemed faster esp the native browser. Is this for real? I'm on unlocked 8900 on Fido

Posted by snakedoctor231 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

people all the changes are server-side.its not a complete overhaul of anything.nothing will look different.its strictly a server side update.just read the notes provided at rims website.and everyone got it in NA.

Posted by decypher44 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Thank you!

Posted by qtsuga Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Don't know if this counts but if you go to the manage internet email option, the layout looks different (I'm on T-Mobile). Is that an indication there was an upgrade?

Posted by bryanshelton Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I've noticed switching between apps, the app world, bbm, email etc...I'm seeing a network speed increase. I'm on TMO with a 9700. Hmmm...

Posted by jinko Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I haven't found any difference so far. The only thing I noticed is that all the icons of IM apps which I don't use and never installed, dissapeared (yahooM, google talk, flickr and Myspace) I haven't received any emails throughout the morning but maybe is that I don't have friends lol.
I have a 9000 running on Rogers in Montreal. BTW I've never logged in on the BIS service page, what are the benefits? Am I missing something because of that? I feel like a total noob in that subject

Posted by Oilersboy Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

no major changes at all with bell which I am using BB storm 9530

Posted by nighthawks Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

no changes at all

Posted by nkcbberry4148 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Somebody, please enlighten me; I recall seeing screen shots from the 3.0 upgrade in Europe a week or two ago. AT&T BIS looks as it always has (well, at least since the 2.4 upgrade) and is functioning the same as it always has. BIS was indeed down last night - but I'm not seeing anything new here (in both physical appearance of the BIS page, and functionality.)

Hope I'm missing something! RIM has been on the naughty list this year -- too many outages and not enough advancements.

Posted by elmbrook Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

Simply check for a BIS 3 feature, like the email secret question / answer option.

Set up email...Need an email account..

If it has the secret question / answer then you are on BIS 3.

Posted by ShAdoWSKy Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

woke up and saw no difference on my phone... how do u check that you got an update? or can someone tell me what changes actually happened?

Posted by rlin5741 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 789 days ago

I believe BIS is run on a RIMM server and application, the carriers simply subscribe to it to allow their customers to get RIMM push email. Thus, various providers cannot use different versions, that part is controlled by RIMM. One indication of this is that the various BIS websites (can access here are all in the blackberry.com domains.

If you look at the official KB article, it says that read/unread status will be implemented in Spring 2010. Also, note that it indicated that 3.0 users can set the read receipt sending options on the blackberry - I checked mine this morning (VZW Tour on 5.0.591) and those options are available - I can't remember if they were not there before, but its an indication that 3.0 has hit.

For users seeing faster internet - that is possibly due to BIS upgrade. Remember, the Blackberry has 3 ways of connecting to the internet - Direct (TCP), through BIS, or thorugh BES. I believe the default connection method for the Browser and most third party apps is through BIS, so if there was any upgrades to BIS it could result in speedier internet.

Sorry I can't post links to the websites I referenced above - CB truncates the links and doesn't make them hyperlinks, so you can't follow...

- Good looks on da update

Posted by Arielnyc2009 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

Looks like Boost Mobile has not upgraded to 3.0, I added a new email account and was not prompted for a secret question/answer.

Posted by bricenm Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

2-way gmail sync seems to be working for me on VZW. I had about 20 emails when I woke up this morning on my Storm 2. I decided to use Outlook to read them as I had other work to do this morning. As soon as I read them or deleted them on Outlook, my BB updated read/delete as well. I did some test emails and tried read/delete on the BB and Outlook updated within a minute.

I haven't noticed this before. Maybe i'm going crazy. Can anyone else confirm?

Posted by Propa Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

I never noticed an outage...

Posted by TomWilliams Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

Thats is the version I have downloaded in the UK a few moments ago.

Posted by thebrownguy01 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

When I went to www.blackberry.com/gmail and went to download v2.0.0.25 it said that v2.0.0.30 was already installed. Is that a BIS 3.0 thing? Maybe the blackberry.com/gmail download hasn't been updated yet?

Posted by RJSH_1727 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

elmbrook is right! I just tried adding a hotmail account and and the option Show Password is now there, which I DEF do NOT recall being there before. It's not much, but it's better than not recognizing anything! LOL

Posted by luqman24 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

I found the Secret question/answer when ur creating a new blackberry email account idk if that's the one everyone's talkin about

Posted by samuels1289 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

Guys, just do a battery pull.. do not use restart app. Just do a battery pull, and you will see changes.

Posted by DieselCityMag Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

I don't know about everyone else, but my data is greased up or something. It's FAST!! Thanks for the awesome 3.0 update. BTW, I don't think we should see too many physical changes on the BIS update, I'm guessing it's an overhaul of Blackberry's system (not carrier systems) in order to bring future software changes. As for now, I'm going to enjoy how fast my info flows.

Posted by joshbenhase Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

How do you know if your BIS is 3.0?

Posted by DieselCityMag Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

go to Options -> Advanced Options -> GPS
If your GPS location is within North America, your BIS is 3.0

;)

love it!

Posted by nkcbberry4148 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

Definitely no changes (at least for me) using my Bold 9000 on AT&T w/ a valid BIS plan and the latest OS 5 leak.

I have done battery pulls, re-sent service books, deleted & re-added accounts. Not even one of the features anyone who claims to have this up and running (i.e., security question) is appearing for me.

My BIS and BlackBerry are as they always have been. Ergo, those of you running AT&T saying otherwise (if any) please let me know what you did to get these new features, because quite frankly I'm stumped.

Posted by pennfire38 Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

Ive seen NO difference whatsoever.... I had to log into bis site, send service books, and click the link to manually upgrade my gmail plugin. I got emails and notifications through the night, so I dont think this thing went through. It would be nice if RIM could send some kind of confirmation, or have some info on their home page that tells us this went through.

Posted by Nelimungous Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

My data is flying today. Browser FAST! Connection is MUCH improved. I am on AT&T.

Posted by brolik Sunday, Mar 28, 2010 788 days ago

My browser speeds def improved, I connected my BB to the DM and asked for enhanced gmail plug in to be updated, I did it but to be honest what exactly is supposed to change in gmail plug in?

Posted by joshbenhase Monday, Mar 29, 2010 788 days ago

How to tell if your running 3.0

Posted by SpaceMonster Monday, Mar 29, 2010 788 days ago

Ok it only took RIM about a thousand years to do this.

Posted by penpower Monday, Mar 29, 2010 788 days ago

When you switch BB and you need to validate each of your email addresses (except Blackberry's own email), you are on BIS 3.0. And I don't like this change, especially when you have several email accts.

Posted by phiv5e Monday, Mar 29, 2010 788 days ago

No change on tmobile in California... nothing that i can tell anyways. Same ol same... Is there someway to look up if i actually got the update???

Posted by joe18 Monday, Mar 29, 2010 788 days ago

I haven't noticed any change at all. Either its because there is no update for verizon or something else. Someone help me if I'm wrong.

Posted by snakedoctor231 Monday, Mar 29, 2010 788 days ago

there is not supposed to be a noticeable difference in any of the ui.i dont know where people got the idea something was supposed to "look" different.as i said before.......the update is server-side.NOTHING SHOULD LOOK DIFFERENT ON YOUR PHONE!!.Mass craziness i tell you. the masses have gone mad.

Posted by decolur455 Monday, Mar 29, 2010 788 days ago

??? I just did a batt pull and the only thing I noticed was that a Skype icon was now on my home screen. My browser got much faster when I did the 5.0 update to my 8530 last week.

Posted by knuckles937 Monday, Mar 29, 2010 788 days ago

I'm on the sprint network and as soon I woke up and logged onto crackberry.com using my tour, I instantly noticed that my browser was about 2x faster!

Posted by jkoogler Monday, Mar 29, 2010 788 days ago

I am also on Sprint. I resent service books and it prompt me to download the Gmail Plugin. That all went fine and also noticed increased speed in the browser as others have mentioned.

Anyone on US Cellular completely lose service? I can't make calls, text, or browse the web. Started yesterday evening. I noticed a triangle about the time and a compass with three ) on my main screen. I have pulled the battery twice and was able to send one text after the first pull, now nothing.
