The name of the app probably gives away what it does - it reads out text for you. If comes from a developer we're familiar with - Sven Ziegler - who has been busy coding apps lately. Updating his existing ones whilst also bringing new ones to the table. Read Out came about as something to be integrated with ReadItNow!, where you could have articles read out to you. The developer then decided to release a full blown app to it could be used with other apps.

Upon opening Read Out for the first time, you get some instructions on how to use the app. The usual welcome you get with Sven Ziegler apps. Once you know your way around the app, you can get going.

There are a couple of ways you can have text read out to you. You can paste text into the Text to read out field and tap Play or you can share from any app that supports text sharing. For example, any emails that come through to the Hub can then be shared to Read Out using the native Share function and it will automatically play (you can change this setting if you don't want autoplay). There is a moment's wait before it starts to play as Read Out needs to download the sound bite first. The longer the text, the longer the wait.

Read Out supports 30 different languages too. By default, it is set to automatically detect the language within the text field. Just select the language drop down menu and then choose a language you want it to read out in. During play back, you can pause, stop or rewind 10 seconds. There is also the ability to share the MP3 with others.

Overall, Read Out is a useful app that makes things convenient in certain situations. You can check out the video above to get a feel for how the app works. If it's something you're going to find useful you can download it from BlackBerry World. It is currently priced at $0.99 - a bargain if it's something you're interested in. It is available for all BlackBerry 10 smartphones.
