If you're a fan of ReadItNow!, which I am, then you'll probably be pleased to know that it has just received another update. You definitely can't say this developer sits on his laurels. It has come a long way since its first version way back when on the BlackBerry PlayBook. Though, I personally only discovered it on BlackBerry 10, mainly because I was using another read it later type service back then. If you didn't know already, ReadItNow! is a third party app for Pocket users, it allows you save to articles to read later. Very useful.

ReadItNow! v6.8.0 changelog

  • NEW: auto-saving scroll position inside articles!
  • NEW: showing authors inside article (if available)
  • NEW: added new FAQ entry for sharing from twitter!
  • IMPROVED: in general better performance and less memory consumption
  • IMPROVED: Turbo Reader integration with large articles
  • IMPROVED: better link color in dark theme
  • IMPROVED: line-spacing in article view with larger fonts
  • IMPROVED: several ui modifications
  • FIXED: auto-sync on startup

The developer marks that this is the 30th update to this app since the BlackBerry PlayBook version and to celebrate the ocassion he is having a 50% sale. If you have been holding out or haven't tried it before, maybe you should give it a download now. Sale ends April 6th, 2014. All you need is a Pocket account and that's a free sign up. If you have ever been sent an article to read or started reading one but couldn't finish reading it, ReadItNow! is a great way to save the article to read it later. It syncs with your Pocket account so you can continue reading it on your computer or any other device you can sync Pocket with. It is available for all BlackBerry 10 devices and will be priced at $0.99 for the next week. Usual price $1.99.

I'm constantly amazed reviewers assume the reader knows what this product (in this case, app) is used for. It should be the Editor's #1 job to pound in the simple question, "what?". I have no idea what this app is useful for. You can review all the great features and performance but none of it has any meaning to someone who doesn't know what to use it for.

Yeah James does that too. He goes on and on about something without giving us a little background info.

DJ though, gave you some information that it allows you to sync articles from Pocket. I guess that's all that's needed. Personally, that is acceptable to me.

I gave a brief explanation of the what the app does and in the last paragraph I even gave a scenario for using the app. Also, in the first Paragraph ReadItNow! Is clickable and you can read up more about the app :)

Thank you for a great app dev.

One of the top 3 apps used on my Z10 and highly recommend.

What do you mean exactly? Do you want to share a BBM message to ReadItNow! to read the BBM message later?

Sven (Developer of ReadItNow!)

Question: doesn't the "save page" function in the browser allow you to read articles offline later? Someone mentioned in the forums that this was new with the latest VZ OS update, but I thought it was already there. It saves the article to PDF format (apologies to jrohland for the alphabet soup ;-).

Is there something substantially additional this app does?

Yes but that doesn't sync. I like this app as it can syncs to my Pocket account and I can read it on my computer too

How do you save a webpage as a pdf file with the BlackBerry browser? My browser just saves it as html files.

This is one of the best apps for the BlackBerry.
I link the account with my Kobo. And the developer linked it with Sayit and turbo reader awesome apps.
Must have

Is there a way to have this read content to you (text to speech)? Even if the app won't do it by itself, I have a real use for listening to articles while I drive.

Hi Stephen!

Normally you are able to share the article content directly to SayIt! but since the last update of SayIt! that does not work anymore. Sadly. I already tried to contact the developer a few times via Twitter to find a solution, but he did not respond to any of my messages so far. :(

Hi Kenton!

It's useful if you want to read the complete article in your own look and feel. You have the same look and feel for every article exactly as you configured ReadItNow! Also the whole article content is available when you are offline with your device and everything else beside the content and the images is stripped from the article, so reading is much more enjoyable imho. :)

I really have to put a little more effort into reading things. This whole time I thought it read "Reddit now".

Can't get pocket to work on explorer. The instructions are cryptic to say the least.

Could someone explain to me that after I download Readitnow, do I need a pocket account to make this all work.

Hi wuuwuu!

Let me comment your recent one star rating of my app here, because I cannot do this in the BlackBerry World (sadly). It's really frustrating for me to see people are giving my app a 1* rating and they take the time to do so, but they take not the time to ask the developer for some help. I really don't understand the thinking behind...

You also state that ReadItNow! is useless because there is no native Pocket app available for BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry is not referenced by Pocket. ReadItNow! is a third party Pocket client, developed by me. It's not on official application developed by Pocket itself. That's the reason that Pocket does not market my app. And because of the missing official Pocket app from the Pocket team, I decided to bring that kind of service to BlackBerry 10 and I wrote ReadItNow! to take advantage of the awesome service that Pocket offers. That you did not get the Pocket icon to your Internet Explorer Bookmarks bar is really frustrating, I strongly believe. But in my opinion that should be no reason to rate my app with one star. Again, I'm not Pocket. I do not work for Pocket and I have no relationships to them, except that I'm using there service for my little app.

So next time I, and any other developer I believe as well, would really appreciate the opportunity to respond to your questions, instead of seeing such a weird review in the BlackBerry World.

So long,
Sven (Developer of ReadItNow!)

Hi wuuwuu!

Yeah, you need a Pocket account to get this working. You just need to create a new account. That's something that you can do on your BB10 device as well, if the Explorer is not working as expected.

Bought it since playbook days. Absolutely awesome app. And Seven is very responsive.

Must have app IMHO.

No, it doesn't. Didn't even knew that the official app supports that for iOS and Android. How long does that work, do you knew that?
