Qualcomm is looking to head into 2016 with a clean slate in China now that the company has signed new patent licensing deals in the country. Qualcomm has reached an agreement with smartphone manufacturers Beijing Tianyu Communication Equipment and Haier Group. The move comes after the company itself was investigated by Chinese officials over an antitrust dispute.
As well as working with aforementioned local manufacturers, Qualcomm will also be announcing new deals with other partners now that the settlement of $975 million has gone through. It remains to be seen just how much of an impact these new deals and just how much Qualcomm will collect off licensing fees. This comes at a time when the company is facing increased competition from the likes of Huawei, MediaTek and others with their own processor developments.
While things are starting to look up in China, Qualcomm continues to be entangled with authorities in Europe regarding antitrust concerns.
