Phone Tap for BlackBerry 10 goes on sale

Phone Tap for BlackBerry 10 goes on sale

Phone Tap is an app we have looked at before here on CrackBerry. It is an app that allows you to record phone calls on your BlackBerry 10 device. But it can also act as a voice recorder too and since it runs headless, you can set a trigger button to quickly record things. If you had been holding off on trying it out perhaps now you can take a lot as it goes on sale. From today and the next two weeks you can get Phone Tap for $1.99. Regular price is $2.99.

Also, from the same developer, HUB++, is still on sale in Indonesia. It went on sale in Indonesia when the BlackBerry Z3 was launched and since Z3 sales have been very good, the sale has been extended until June 13th, 2014. If you're not in Indonesia, the HUB++ sale is also available to you too. You can get it for $1.99. Regular price is $2.99.

You can check out our review for Phone Tap, if you haven't seen it already. You can also read up on HUB++ too.

Phone Tap for BlackBerry 10 goes on sale

Used to be a standard feature on my first phone more than 10 years ago. An gold gold colored Samsung with the flip down mic cover.

$2, $2 and $3. Fixed the grade 5 math trick. Lol

For those finding that it is not available in their region, it would be because of legislation in the telecommunications industry regarding recording phone calls. I found this out when I was unable to download and install Parrot Pro (which offers the same feature).

Well pmingus, that's unlikely to be the reason knighty2112 was unable to download Parrot, because I am also UK-based and was able to download Parrot without a hitch.

Did they fix that "only records when speakerphone is enabled" bit. That's a deal breaker. I already bought it full price and deleted it for that reason. IF they ever fix that part, it will indeed be a useful app.

Thanks for the heads up, if it only works on speaker phone that puts me off from purchasing it. Bummer...

Hey, npunk, could you just reinstall and test for us?

Still interested in an app like that, but don't wanna buy junk. Maybe we could have a comparison review with Parrot, Call Recorder, and others...

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

I'd be very interested to know this as well. I've currently got Call recorder installed which worked well with either speaker phone or handset, but when I added a bluetooth headset, it only recorded my side of the conversation which pretty much now makes it useless to me. I'd buy Phone Tab in a millisecond if it worked on handset and bluetooth headsets.

Comparison reviews are asked for.....and we never get them here on Crackberry. :(
It could practically be a full time job for someone.

Sorry, I tried it, its the same deal. I get most of my call via the blue tooth in my work vehicle. All I hear is my end of the conversation. This would be so useful as I cant write out all the details of a call while Im driving. If this app worked the way it says I could just play the call back later and write everything down. A VERY useful tool. as it is, not very useful at all. Bummer. Step it up guys!

Parrot is the best and only: headless, records incoming and outgoing, and doesn't require call to be on speaker. Can set it to automatically record all calls or manually per call. Excellent voice recorder as well. Once you try Parrot, there can be only one. Killer app, killer developer.

Can you control where the recordings are saved?
That was the real problem for me using Phone Tap. It was killing my internal storage and then it lost track of the files! The files are saved in the app's 'sandbox', so there is no way to use a file manager to move the recordings! Grrr!

You may not be able to use file manager but inside the app you can export individually or export all, it saves as an .amr file. Then you can do whatever you like with the exported file with file manager.

Let me correct myself, you can choose to save the file in settings to either AMR M4U or WAV.

Disagree re Parrot.

Yes it's a very good recording app in general, but as a phone call recorder, it is poor.

To record phone calls it relies on the ear-piece speaker for audio volume of the other party's side of the conversation.

I find that I have to turn up the phone volume to the max to get the incoming side of the conversation at any sort of volume at all, and even then, it still sounds weak at best.

On a positive note, I actually wrote to the devs about this issue and they admitted it was a problem.

They said that hopefully, when 10.3 is out, they could fix the problem, because according to them, updated API components of the newest OS version enable a codec which removes the need to record actual audio through a speaker. (Can be done digitally instead.)

Here's hoping, because Parrot would be perfect if it could actually record phone calls perfectly.

Has anyone used this and Call Recorder Pro? Which one is better? Looks like they offer similar features.

Speaker does not have to be on. I've used this since it came out and always have crystal clear recordings ...

Posted via CB10

When I used parrot, only my voice was being recorded during the call. I want to hear the CONVO between me and the other person, does anyone know how to make that work?

Posted via CB10

Just curious are there prompts or tones that alert the other party that the call is being recorded on these call recorder apps.

For this app it's a choice, you can you can turn it on or off. Some places have legislation that stipulates that the caller be made aware that their being recorded. You have to look up local laws, if you want...

There is no app available which lets you get both voices recorded loud and clear witout using speaker. Parrot cant do this either.
Recording phonecalls in speakermode is not an option.

I've said it and I'm gonna still be saying it again. BlackBerry needs to come up with prepaid cards to be able to buy things. Just like ITunes cards.. I don't have credit cards or PayPal..

Z10 10.2.1

They already got my 4 bucks a while ago. I would gladly pay another ten if they could get it to work over Bluetooth, and not just over speakerphone.

Huh, a new article on crackberry. I thought my CB App was broken only see old stuff I not want to buy and running apps.

No interesting articles anymore, why?

The same issue exists in Call Recorder, but they call it a security feature!
"For the security purpose, the voice clips will not be shown anywhere in the device, The clips are stored in the applications only."

The winner: Parrot Pro!...
"Record to SD Storage: Record directly to your SD card (including SDHC 16GB, 32GB and 64GB cards). "

Please note that, in the latest release of the PhoneTap app, you have the option to record directly to SD Card.
