Pebble has announced a new premium version of the popular smartwatch today dubbed Pebble Steel. The Steel will be available in two versions — a Black Matte and Brushed Stainless — and will come with matching metal bands as well as a black leather strap. The Pebble Steel will be sporting Gorilla Glass and an anti-fingerprint coating as well.

While Pebble doesn't yet officially support BlackBerry 10, there are some great third-party apps that keep the two working together without much compromise. The Pebble Steel is available for pre-order now for $249 and will begin shipping on January 28th.

If you're interesting in the Pebble, Pebble Steel (or any other smartwatch for that matter) be sure to head over to Smartwatch Fans for all the latest news and coverage from the CES show floor

Press Release

Until now, Pebblers discovered apps and watchfaces thanks to wonderful third party resources like MyPebbleFaces. In fact, 3 million apps and watchfaces have been downloaded so far.

By the end of January, the Pebble appstore will offer a centralized location for users to discover, manage, and install apps and watchfaces.

Pebble appstore makes browsing easy, with categories for Daily, Remotes, Games, Notifications, Tools & Utilities, Fitness, and—of course—Watchfaces. We’re making it easier than ever to find your next favorite app for things like tracking your workout, managing your music, or controlling your thermostat.

In addition to being a simple one-stop shop, we’ll be curating the Pebble appstore, bringing the latest and greatest apps and watchfaces to your wrist in no time. Developers who want their Pebble apps in the appstore at launch must submit them by January 9.

Second, we’re delighted to introduce Pebble Steel: our new, premium smartwatch. With Pebble, we created an iconic, colorful, and sporty smartwatch, but we wanted to build something even more refined—cranking the style dial to 11.

Pebble Steel takes everything you know and love about Pebble—the crystal clear ePaper display, weeklong battery life, and waterproof design—and wraps it a smaller, thinner package. It’s made of forged and CNC-machined stainless steel.

Pebble welcomes Steel to the family.

The display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass lens with an oleophobic, anti-fingerprint coating. The housing also subtly incorporates a RGB LED light to indicate charge status. Like the original Pebble, Pebble Steel is waterproof up to 5 ATM.

Pebble Steel comes in two finishes: Brushed Stainless and Black Matte. All models are bundled with both a matching metal band and a black leather strap. The Black Matte Pebble Steel is crafted using a process called Physical Vapor Deposition to provide a tactile, deep black finish that’s also ultra-durable.

Starting today, you’ll be able to order Pebble Steel exclusively from getpebble.com for $249 US, which includes free courier shipping worldwide for early orders. Orders for Pebble Steel will begin shipping on January 28.

Third, we’re extremely proud to announce that Pandora, ESPN, and Mercedes-Benz are joining Yelp, Foursquare, GoPro, and iControl in our growing family of partners. We can’t wait to share the apps they’ve built to bring tiny moments of awesome to your Pebble everyday.

Pandora, iControl, and Mercedes-Benz will be demoing their Pebble apps with Pebble Steel here in Las Vegas. Please come take a look if you’re attending CES! For those who can’t make it in person, please watch Eric’s announcement video showcasing Pebble Steel and our partner apps.

We’re super excited about what the Pebble appstore, Pebble Steel, and our new partners bring to the table. Our mission is clear: create the gold standard for wearables that mesh perfectly with your everyday life, and build the fundamental ecosystem and platform for these devices.

Two thousand and thirteen was phenomenal for Pebble, but expect even more this year as we continue to improve our platform and listen to the feedback from our users and developers.

So, with two flavors of Pebble now in the world, who’s going to be starting a watch collection?

LOL.
People would rather buy an expensive fad watch
rather than buy a fully functional Z10 or Q10?
No telling how people spend their $.

You my friend are 100% right...

I wonder how long the battery lasts on these ugly looking things.

I've had the same digital watch for about 8 years now with its solar rechargeable battery and it's still working as good as the day I got it... that was a couple hundred dollars well spent...

Have a good one.

That's what I though before, but now that I've seen the metal one with the leather strap, I'm in love .

The watch is more money than my phone. I got my phone for $200 with upgrade lmao. No way in hell I'm buying this. Maybe for $60 buy not even

Posted via CB10

Why would I spend that kind of money when there is no support for y mobile phone?

Addict for 10 years, but it may be time to get off this drug.

Adam is definitely on the right track, an area of technology which is about to take off this year.

But maybe not the type of technology that your typical BlackBerry fan would be interested in.

Just kidding of course but I can see him at CES with a bunch of watches in the inside of his blazer showing them off to everybody and maybe even trying to sell them at one point if this thing doesn't work out.

I'll be ordering one on my birthday which is the 28th. Definitely the steel. Was going to get the current one but since I've seen this I'll be asking my mom to get me this

Full support or not. In the end it is absolutely up to developers to pave the way to show the oem how much interest there is. I'm sure if the devs behind talk2watch or pbbl had the numbers to prove interest there would be a greater chance at BlackBerry 10 support. 1st Gen pebble on its way to me. Regardless to bb10 support or not talk2watch seems to be a decent enough third-party app. Besides, being able to naively install android apps on 10.2.1 I'm going to give the official pebble android app a try. You can't make any sort of strong opinion if you aren't willing to take a risk of being disappointed. High hopes we'll see some love in the future. After all its where pebble started after all. With the inpulse...

I'm pretty sure I'm going to do one of these. I've wanted a smartwatch for a while, and while I was tempted to do one of the original Pebbles, I wasn't nuts about the finish.

This new one looks sharp (especially in Black), and very functional.

I realize some question the utility of these, but I can give you a few reasons why these will sell. For one thing, it's a MUCH more discreet way to check messages or Caller ID than pulling your phone out. I'm finding in social situations that picking my phone up is becoming kind of a no-no. Also, when I'm riding my bike this will give me a much easier way to control my music or even check my speed.

Liking your posts. Always the voice of reason. Give smart watches time. Right now they're just ahead of the curve.

Go Black and Never Go Back.

Wow there as been a lot of pebble coverage lately. Maybe they should actually support Blackberry before we have to read about it all the time on crackberry. *I have a pebble

I love mobile technology, but I just don't get these watches. When I looked into it, they were basically offering some notification features and the ability to receive calls via bluetooth(?) connection with your phone.

Maybe they are offering a little more functionality than that now, but I already carry around my Z or Q... how many times would I want to answer the phone without having to pick my phone up or grab it out of my pocket? I mean, I'm still going to have to hold my hand near my face. It just seems gimmicky and a silly waste of money. Am I missing something? How could having one of these (even if it completely supported BB10) make my work and communications any faster or more efficient than what I have with my Q or Z?

Via CB10 & Z10 or Q10

I think I'll stick to my real watch and my cell phone. I don't need some disgusting watch, smart phone love child.

I'll be getting one of these. I recently picked up the original Pebble and it works great with my blackberry with talk2watch and the developer is super involved on the forums and has helped me through a couple issues and takes feature requests very seriously. For me i like being able to glance at my watch in a meeting or driving to keep track of what emails or texts i'm getting without pulling my phone out of my pocket or seeming rude in a meeting. As for price, i found the $150 for the original pebble to be a good price for what it offers me the $250 is a little pricey but for me will be worth the gorilla glass and steel case. Ive spent much more on watches that do much less. Also, the original Pebble doesnt look that bad if you swap in your own leather or steel band.

Looks good although I don't wear a watch myself - would consider a Pebble if it had BB10 SDK or at least published information on their bluetooth interface...

Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

As soon as they officially support BB10 I'll give them a look.

But not before.
