Out With The Old, In With The New?
After waking up this morning and checking my Tour (as I always do when I roll out of bed) I had NO emails! None! I immediately jumped on my PC to look into things, and sure enough, my emails had come in and just had not made it to my Berry. I know there was a scheduled BIS outage, so I logged on to my BIS and tried to resend my service books - but wait - where is the Service Book tab? A quick cry for help on Twitter and I found that it has been moved from the main screen to the Help section. A sigh of relief and I was on my way. I'm still only receiving less than sparatic emails, but its a good start. Is BIS 2.8 upon us? Drop us a line in the comments and let us know whats going on with your BIS.

I have no changes. it's still where it always hass been.
DaleMH Oct 3, 2009 at 9:25 am
I'm on Telus and my service books link as been moved but I seem to be receiving emails just fine. I also deleted and readded my Hotmail account and the Microsoft Mobile Services Protocol is now optional. The protocol allows for syncing but also makes you re-enter your password every 90 days.

I noticed that it was gone and freaked out and maybe thought that the update was not finished or something, so I resent through email setting on my device. Glad to see that it is still there, although I think it was a mistake to remove the Tab on the main screen.
Forums is gonna be flooded with "Where are Service Books on BIS?" now

I'm on AT&T. I woke up at 9am this morning and did have all my emails and they're coming through fine. I checked the BIS page and Service Books has moved under Help, so I'm wondering if they did upgrade to BIS 2.8 early this morning?

clexman Oct 3, 2009 at 9:51 am

for the verizon BIS.... the send service book is in the help page
contractorslim Oct 3, 2009 at 10:19 am
Verizon's BIS page has been changed over for well over a month now. I thought this was probably already posted about, or I would have jumped on it.
casperwhiteboy Oct 3, 2009 at 10:19 am
Yeah, I noticed this. It happened here around 2:00am. Hadn't really done much with my phone but I had receieved emails. Then when I go to send myself an email to start working with it...BIS was down.
UrbanNewz Oct 3, 2009 at 10:30 am
I just upgraded to 5.0 on the 8330 and thought not getting any emails was a problem. Sprint's BIS doesn't have the service books and had I been checking CB like I should have, I would have seen the upgrade was happening. But...I just deleted and re-created my email accounts. Good thing I backed-up all my emails last night because all I have to do now is restore all my messages.
Ahh....the wonderful world of Blackberry!

Swisscom is like 9 month like this.......
n0m0n Oct 3, 2009 at 11:12 am
Well
I went onto the Blackberry/Verizon site and couldn't find the Service Book option.
My view was the same as the one shown above but no tab or option for service books.
n0m0n Oct 3, 2009 at 11:15 am
You should have the ability on your BB device.
Email setup, enter your BB mail name and password.
I think theres a option on the page that will appear on the device.
UrbanNewz Oct 3, 2009 at 1:13 pm
I swear I tried that earlier and it didn't work, but now it's there. Thanks!
Just another thing to love about 5.0

No change to BIS layout or service interruption afaik.
It has always been unclear to me if a BIS upgrade is carrier dependent or not. ie - is this happening on RIM servers and the pages are "skinned" for each carrier or something else?
Also, is there a way to see what version of BIS you are on, either on the website, or on the device?
ChadFarr Oct 3, 2009 at 11:36 am
i was trying to log on to the BIS sight yesterday and the site was down. i was able to log onto the BIS from my phone though...? wierd!
serpico Oct 3, 2009 at 11:37 am
Me too, checked my Telus bis account and it was moved. All emails coming through.
imdabold1 Oct 3, 2009 at 11:39 am
I just checked my BIS and realised the very same thing!
Ironman69 Oct 3, 2009 at 11:41 am
My shaw email is still coming in up to 10 min late but at least it is coming in. Was hoping the upgrade would increase the speed but no luck :(
donnamatt Oct 3, 2009 at 11:55 am
No change on the T-Mobile site...emails have been delivered on time since last night.
mbacon1906 Oct 3, 2009 at 12:13 pm

jeffreii Oct 3, 2009 at 12:13 pm
I don't really see any changes on my Bold 9000 running .297 - how can I confirm whether or not I've received this update? And shouldn't there be settings somewhere for the Google Contacts sync or it just gonna do it on its own?
papachango1313 Oct 3, 2009 at 12:14 pm
No change - all emails have been delivered and have been on time -- TMO taking its time or is RIM taking its time?
flamingkitties Oct 3, 2009 at 12:22 pm
Been under 'Help' on Orange UK BIS for a while.
Took me a while to find it too when I needed it!
bobby1874 Oct 3, 2009 at 12:44 pm
All appears to be good. Not sure of any changes but my E Mail from Aol and BB are flying in almost instantly. So far so good. Hope this is a sign of continued improvements.
jmlowes Oct 3, 2009 at 12:45 pm
I did not have any emails this morning and have not received any so far. I should check my BIS. Oh yeah, I am with Telus.
delikid Oct 3, 2009 at 1:14 pm
I just logged on @ 1.12pm EST and click 'help' and low and behold "Not receiving email? If you are experiencing difficulties sending or receiving email from your BlackBerry(R) device, send service books to your device. Service books determine which services are available on your device." with the 'send service books' button.
So, i sent the service books and yep, i got the email.
sigh.

Tried to get my email working today. I was told delete all my service books. So I did. Email started working. But my device is randomly restarting now. Hopefully that mean my GPS will start working?
jzklein Oct 3, 2009 at 2:11 pm

5hea Oct 4, 2009 at 3:59 am
Oh c'mon Crackberry, you're better than this!
It's not like it was some accidental misspelling, just a general failure at spelling an English word. This is just pathetic.
It's SPORADIC, not SPARATIC.
sechler Oct 5, 2009 at 8:07 pm
I deleted and entered my gmail account info today and the new gmail sync was there.
