Orange UK Launches 8900 Curve For Prepaid Services!
There has been plenty of talk across the pond and here in North America as well regarding BlackBerry devices heading towards more availability on pre paid services. Orange UK has increased their options having previously only offered Pay As You Go services on the BlackBerry 8120, which began at the beginning of this year, but have now made it official that they will indeed also be offering the BlackBerry Curve 8900 as well for their customers:

The BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphone will be available at launch with six months’ free Internet access. To take advantage of the Orange Pay As You Go BlackBerry smartphone offer, customers must first purchase the BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphone for £245. They can choose one of Orange’s existing Pay As You Go animal packages, offering a choice of free rewards, and will receive free Internet access for the first six months. After that, customers can take out Orange’s Pay As You Go BlackBerry® Internet Service for just £5 per month, on a monthly rolling subscription.

With each carrier push, Pay As You Go BlackBerry seems to be an almost imminent thing to happen and with the carriers backing it so far, it could turn out to be a great venture for RIM.

6 months of free internet! That must be Europe as here in Canada, no one is giving that away! I love this phone except that it doesn't do 3G; which is a big downfall in my mind.

Just a warning to anyone who's thinking of getting this, and wants edge:

I'm on a pay monthly contract with Orange and live in London, and am using an unlocked version of this phone. Because of the fast 3G rollout, edge is only available (on orange) in places where 3G isn't. Basically, I only very rarely, for a split second, get edge coverage at the occasional rail station just outside of London. This phone will be capped to GPRS 99% of the time.

If that's a big deal to you, don't waste your time or your money with orange. You can get an unlocked bold or storm new on ebay for the same price.

I would love to read such a news for Germany. But if prepaid BIS is available in more and more countries, I think the german providers will offer it too!

Hope soon!
