Official OS for the BlackBerry Torch 9860 from Redington

I thought with RIM's/ the carrier's abandonment of the 9860 I would be stuck with the version I have now, which has several bugs that annoy me.

when is att coming out with 7.1 for torch 9810 they still haven't released it yet. i don't think they ever will they are so worried about the iPhone. this si why i cant wait till bb10 ridiculous how blackberry users are always put last.

RIM should surprise everyone and make another major release for OS7, from 7.1 to 7.5, something with a little PBOS / BB10 feel. I know it's hardware dependent, but I'm sure we could have a taste... ;)

Learning so much from this site, my next carrier will be one that has a history of fresh updates.
Still at from tmobile.

Another lesson: You'll be waiting,... and waiting,... and waiting,...

Carriers are the reasons for update "delays".

As long as you get all the right specs - leaks are all good, and VERY EASY to install/upgrade.

Check the Forums for more info...

Good point. So my question is since the PlayBook get it's OS updates over the air from RIM, will phones running BB10 get them straight from RIM as well? I for one hope we don't have to rely on the carriers anymore.

Actually, it's not.

Both go through very easily the Desktop Manager.

So the time is actually the same.

Just delete the "vendor.xml" file in the leak - found in C:/Programs/Common Files/Research in Motion/AppData

You're good to go. ;)

HEY, SO since BBX isn't coming anytime soon, RIM can keep updating OS7, to something with a little PBOS2.1/BBX feel (whatever is possible by hardware limitations).

It would retain customers.

I've installed this update and have been experiencing intermittent mic issues. I have a 9860 on AT&T. Has anyone else experienced this? I have tried wiping my phone after install and get the same result.

Any thoughts?

Hey folks, so I'm new to the whole OS installing thing... I have a Torch 9860 with Rogers and it's taking them FOREVER to release OS 7.1 ... in the meantime, my phone is constantly freezing, dropping calls, and keeps telling me its memory is full. Also, Blackberry Desktop manager refuses to work with it. (I've uninstalled and reinstalled, tried on my Mac and a friend's PC.. in all fairness, my Mac was compatible with my old Bold 9700).

If I can't use Desktop Manager, how do I install the OS? Do I have to have my phone unlocked to install an OS meant for another provider?

Hey cc85, BB DS is pretty much the smoothest way to run the os upgrade. Why don't you want to use it. By following the upgrade steps, the new os will be installed even if it is from another carrier as long as it is an official release for your model of phone.
