Official OS 6.0.0.706 for the BlackBerry Bold 9780 from Partner Communications
For those of you still rocking my long lost love the Bold 9780, Partner Communications has released OS 6.0.0.706 for the BlackBerry Bold 9780. This build looks to be a good one, so if you're a 9780 use fire up those USB cables and let this one rip. If you give it a go, be sure to hit up the forums and let us know what you find. As always, use caution when updating your device software.

And I just got the .668java + 666sfi loaded and stablized... :-p
Multi language means no support for Asian language characters I guess...

I'm glad to have an update, but I gotta wonder- with all of RIM's current challenges, why bother continuing to work on these OSes?
beemir Nov 21, 2011 at 12:33 pm
I agree! Unless they're doing something to fix a flaw or what not...why bother. I guess they do have to somewhat support their previous generation (BB6) devices too right? But yeah you couldn't be any more on point.
beemir Nov 21, 2011 at 12:31 pm
Right off the bat I noticed under connections where it shows mobile network, wifi, bluetooth...instead of saying turn all connections on or off it now just says "all on" or "all off" depending on what you choose. Interesting. I wonder what other, if any, small tweaks there are here and there. Will report back with any other funky (or perhaps useless) discoveries.

the same as OS7, maybe RIM make OS6 to be OS7 lite edition?

i have the latest version of desktop manager on my computer.
i have deleted the older os from my computer
i have downloaded and installed this os on my computer.
i plug in my phone and back it up
when i check for an update there is nothing
i also try to delete the vendor file and there is still nothing.
i have also tried using apploader to make this work and still nothing.
can somebody help me and tell me if there is something i am doing wtrong
Winstorm Dec 29, 2011 at 9:56 pm
Copy the original vendor file (the one that came with the original OS) to apploader folder. Then try applying the new OS update again.

Can you please tell me where i go and get the vendor file that comes with that OS.
Where in my computer is it?

What I am seeing that I didn't notice in .666 or .668 is that within Options->Third Party Applications I see "Personalization & Privacy for BBM". I don't remember seeing that before. Maybe it was there prior, and I never noticed it? Has anyone else seen this before?
Maybe I was just blind to it previously.
Nice build. Running well.
csantoss Nov 21, 2011 at 3:41 pm
I have 668 running on my 9700, which means it's the same build you had... The Personalization & Privacy for BBM item is there under Options->Third Party Applications.
Hopefully out 9700s will get a new OS soon... This 668 I am running is giving me a lot of problems (memory running out).
MADBRADNYC Nov 21, 2011 at 9:01 pm
Thanks! But I believe they have the same build numbers, but made for different devices, so all content may not be exactly the same. Your device is a 9700. Someone already confirmed for me in the 9780 thread that this add-on is not present in the 9780 .668 build. I thought as much, but could not remember.
Thanks again!
EDIT: @csantoss, I was just informed that this is a condition of having the new BBM 6.1.0.25 installed from BetaZone, and is not due to the OS. Sounds good to me. In any event, I am happy for an upgrade. RIM has not forgotten us who are not on OS7. ;)

Any support for Asian characters guys?
diruocco Nov 21, 2011 at 4:22 pm
can i use a mac to put this on my bold without running windows on it?
I do have the programs wine & wine bottler however it doesn't seem to be working.
Cazurela Nov 21, 2011 at 5:45 pm
That's the best way to fiddle with your BB on a Mac. As matter of fact, it's the ONLY reason I use Windoze on my Mac.
spoonman9696 Nov 22, 2011 at 11:55 am
I've downloaded it, but when I try to install on my computer, it keeps saying "error reading setup initiation file". Tried downloading again and same thing happens...this blows!!
bladerunner6821 Nov 22, 2011 at 1:39 pm
same here spoonman9696, only i don't even get an error message, it just doesn't happen. i've reinstalled it so many times, i even went so far as to completely uninstall the desktop manager and reinstall this OS update once again and nothing.

I have a question, does this os version work on the bold 9700 or will it ruin my phone? because all the other versions did work on my phone, but im not sure if this one is safe for my bold 9700
boyriot Nov 27, 2011 at 7:06 am
