Torch 9800 OS

Hot off the presses comes an official OS release for the BlackBerry Torch 9800. From Beeline we have OS now available. Torch users can head over to the official download site to get in on the fun. Some improvements have come along in the last few leaks for the Torch, so here's to hoping there is some goodness in this one. Fire up the ol' App Loader and give it a go, then be sure to drop a comment with your findings. As always, use caution when updating your device.

Official OS for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 from Beeline

and it's been stable for me too so not sure if it's worth the hassle downloading the "official" one

The .337 release is definitely worth upgrading to from any previous beta or official release. The WiFi/BIS bugs seem to be gone, and things are much more quick'n'snappy now.

A few previous releases seemed to include a feature in the web browser that I'm missing with this version - a tab at the top which brings down the address bar without having to scroll to the top of the page.

no, the .337 isn't missing this. it's been improved. when you're down the page, try hitting the top bar, you'll see the expansion drop down.

they've done this to maximize screen space while web browsing.

Not to mention no longer having to wait for the browser to scroll allll the way to the top before being able to view those options...

WoW, I was also missing that address bar and didn't think about hitting the top bar... Really cool, Thanks!!!

yes the Leaked version is awesome....this seems to be the EXACT same, no need to upgrade if you already have .337

looks to be the same as the leak. i don't plan to update. those of you who are currently running the .337 already, and decide to update to this release, please report back.

This is probably a dumb question, but I downloaded the OS .exe and I cant seem to figure out how to get it uploaded using the desktop software. Any help would be great, since I am new to blackberrys.

run the exe file which should make the new os available on your bb desktop manager.

plug your bb into your comp, and run bb desktop software. there should be a notification letting you know that you have a new exe. follow steps. make sure you have at least an hour to burn to do this, as it may take a while to update.

*update: see the 101 instructional on this site. does a really good job at walking you through the update process. don't trust posters as much as the site's instructions.

This is ALL the same as the leak :

Package Version:
Consisting of:
Software Platform:

I'm stuck already. I downloaded and ran the file but then I go into Desktop Manager and it does not detect it.

Any ideas?

try deleting all prior updates that have on your bb dm. also, you may want to update ur bb dm to the most current version.

I do that and then just use the apploader
you should really read the 101 lecture series on how to do this

If you're not using a Beeline phone, you have to remove the vendor.xml file from your computer so that DM Manager recognizes the install files.

"Any idea when an official release willcome from bb?"

If you mean when the same release will come from your carrier, that is up to your carrier. But this one will be the same one they will offer if they decide to release it.

I like to update throuh my phone so when I see the update notification on my phone I will give it a go. I hope .337 improved the virtual keyboard responsiveness.

Am waiting to hear some of the good features this OS has, and does it work better than .246 from AT&T? All I see is nothing. Someone give this OS a review please? Thanks.

see reviews for unofficial .337 leak. to answer your question in a nutshell, this is the best OS we've seen yet. much smoother than .246 and improved browsing speed and double-tap intuition. also, scrolling and rendering in rss native app is awesome. everything responds quicker and tighter. more of the snappier feeling you'd expect from bb vs. iphone, etc.

Tried to update OS, didnt work.
downloaded and installed it, deleted vendor xml file. Plugged in torch, recognized the update. Clicked update, asks me if i want to back up, then this message pops up: The application "Wireless Music Sync" cannot be loaded because
some required files are not available.

At that point i can't continue with update.

This OS has bugs with icons, etc. according to what people wrote under leaked version, to this OS has to have them too. Making it official won't solve that. This OS was meant for beeline network or icons would work.

Deleted the vendor.xml file and Desktop Manager detected the upgrade no problem and I initiated the upgrade, then all too quickly I got the white error 507 screen. Tried again no luck.

Then I used the trusty ol never fail method of going to the apploader c:/program files/common files/research in motion/apploader and clicked the executable and poof, she is installed. Don't know about performance yet but the Leafs are near the bottom and the Habs are near the top so we're off to a great start.

I just download with t Torch! sweet! Now transfer to desktop, and back to BB. I guess the download is allowed only with official release, can't do it from hotfile or other mirrors!

I printed and followed step by step the clear instructions from the 101 lectures. When I attempt to update my phone with new OS I get an error message that says, "One or more modules could not be resolved". Anyone have an idea what would cause this?

Never mind. Found out by visiting other threads that what I needed to do was to load this version from the "loader" that was insided apploader. Everything working good!

My update went well and I'm pleased with the updated version. I have only noticed a few changes. Namely, the icons are a little bigger which is a plus for me and the responsiveness of flick scrolling is amazing. Overall the .337 is more stable and a little snappier for me, but I'm still having issues with favorites dropping off the favorites and some icons sometimes showing as generic icons.

I got mine done through the apploader, uninstall the .246 file and deleted the vendor file, hopefully this include the fix for wifi issue.

Does seem quicker though. Did loose some of my settings after upgrading, but soon sorted and had to re enter my reg numbers for some programs

I must be mental because I did this for the .246 OS without any probs but this one I can't seem to wrap my head around it. Is Beeline the download that would come from AT&T? If not, should I simply wait for the AT&T download since I'm afraid in my tempoorary idiocy I might screw up the phone? I read the download directions 10 times and i'm still not clear what the hell to do .

I use ATT and deleted the vendor.XML on my computer. BB Desktop still doesn't show the .337 update - only .246. Unexpectedly when I run the .337 exe file the window asks to repair or remove OS 6. I am confused. When I updated to .246 (pre-ATT release) I encountered no problems. Has anyone else with an ATT Torch been able to upgrade to .337?
