Ha! As an aside OS6 is running flawlessly on my Vodafone UK Bold 9700.

One would think that an AT&T rep would visIt CB.Com from time to time. Guess not,..they're too busy working on the latest OS5 update.

some of us don't cry every day for the lack of OS6 and are going to stick with OS5. I don't want multiple menus and not be able to turn them off...I am a simpleton and don't want my Berry flipping between All, Media, etc and have things in 4-5 different locations. Boo on OS6 :P

Posted by Dash Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 568 days ago

the webkit alone is enough to put up with having multiple menus. or, you could just download a new theme that would make it simpler. being on OS5 is like not having a smartphone. it's the natural evolution. :D

Posted by rizzzzoooo Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 568 days ago

Yeah the webkit is great UNTIL you get the "this page is to large to load" error and the browser shuts down. Then you start second guessing if it is REALLY worth it.

Posted by ExpressJTS Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 568 days ago

A silence falls on the CBerry nation, followed by a huge roar of laughter...simply what is webkit and why is it so great plz?

Posted by Dash Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 568 days ago

the browser. http://blogs.blackberry.com/2010/08/blackberry-6-new-browser/

Posted by Dash Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 568 days ago

I haven't had that problem

Posted by strods Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

Well not for everyone the browser is working correctly, My provider doesnt support it (mas movil) and i inserted a movistar and a digicel sim and it worked... now i know its my provider!! hope this gets fixed

Posted by superjojo29 Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

It works for me (+movil panama), all I had to do was restore the servicebooks from a backup I made prior to installing OS6.
I read it in the forums. Don't have the link right now.

Posted by StormJH1 Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

I had been excited about WebKit since March or whenever it was first revealed. I ran out an installed it on my 9700, but the leaked OS version does not run properly. I could see why I would want to use WebKit in the future, but we aren't there yet without a real release.

Also, agree with the poster's comment about the stupid tray on the bottom that accidentally gets scrolled over. There are probably a dozen (free) themes on OS5.0 I would rather use than the one you are forced to use on OS6.

Posted by hunoosh Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 568 days ago

Got a good laugh when I saw this! Now EVERYONE sporting a 9700 should be HAPPY!!! New OS5 and leaked 06! Life is good for you...no?!?!

Posted by Statehouse Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 568 days ago

I could really careless about any official AT&T updates. I am running the 6.0 leak, and its simply amazing. There have been very few hiccups, and they are expected given its a leak.

I played around with the Torch and was impressed. Actually having it running on my 9700 is amazing. Every thing about it, the accessibility, features and overall experience of BlackBerry has improved dramatically with OS 6.

Posted by belfastdispatcher Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 568 days ago

No chance am I ever going back to OS5 :) Works perfect on Vodafone UK

Posted by Teddyp6 Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 568 days ago

I only put official OS on my blackberry so i will be downloading this until an official OS 6 is dropped. I have patience so no rush on downloading a leak.

You got to be kidding; this is a joke...rite?

Posted by Connor83 Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 568 days ago

Well I'm one of those "just stick with offical" type guys. Well I got the email so I went to download it. It messed my phone up and faught with it for 3 hours. Now I had to get the OS6 leak. Now sure about it yet. I. Wish I had news about .979 but I have to say I love the social feed on OS6 but I have noticed little things on it that are "messed"

Posted by Dash Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 568 days ago

you got the social feed app in your leaked version? I don't have that on mine.

Posted by emirozmen Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

you need to select it from apploader or from the applications menu inside desktop manager

os6 has tons of issues... i mean runs smoth but ´´the loading black little clock´´ issue its peace me off... if i large a bbm contact profile.. lags forever..... ill wait for others fixed leaks or official os6

Posted by nolan.b Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 568 days ago

Classic.

T-mobile 9700, was one of the herd that upgraded.

I have no thoughts of downgrading, experience so far has been superb. Unit is speedy, battery life the same (at least end of day i still had almost full, I pop it in cradle going to bed).

Only os6 complaint is my flash on camera doesn't always get triggered (even when forced ON).

Well for those that do not want to chance "leaks", i guess this is good news... :S

Posted by mtnspokes Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

My rep told me OS6 won't be out for the 9700 until 2011. This will have to do until then. :/

I agree with several of the comments above about the OS 6.0 being unreliable. I do use my phone for work and of course for a great deal of personal use, and it's simply unacceptable to have the constant fear of an "Application Error 602" crashing the device, or to have the inconvenience of not knowing whether the browser can load a web page.

I'm not sure if it's a memory issue with the 9700 that can't be fixed, or if this is just a crappy build, but WebKit Browser in that leak is WORSE than a new version of BOLT running on 5.0. For all the people who say they never encountered an error, I highly doubt they tried to load anything beyond small mobile websites. I had 6.0 installed for a day, and I was unable to load several pages, even things like YouTube videos through their mobile site. Went to log into a fantasy football site and it couldn't even load the log in page due to memory constraints.

So I was pleasantly surprised to see an official .979 release from AT&T and I am now happily downgraded. When you factor in the library of apps and utilities that aren't yet compatible with 6.0, I really think that 5.0 is going to continue to be a superior OS for some time. I'll revisit that opinion if and when we get an official release from AT&T of 6.0 that is stable enough to rely on.

Posted by amirnabilkamelsaad Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

I agree, OS 6 is unreliable since it's still new and a lot of work has been put in to OS 5 for a very long time to be reliable.

Posted by djnick Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

Os6 is the biggest piece of crap to ever land on 9700. Avoid it at all costs

Posted by ka3yan Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

???

Posted by amirnabilkamelsaad Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

Remember OS 5 when it was in it's infancy of 5.0.0.91?
Fresh, beta, full of bugs and nothing worked?
Give it some time and it will be as good and better than OS 5 in a couple of months.
Actually, it's pretty usable compared to OS 5 when it first came out.

Posted by cwhitney24 Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

I upgraded over the phone and now my phone will not lock when going into holster (yes I double checked the settings under password), I hit the lock button and it does not go to the lock screen, my folders are different under media.

Posted by cwhitney24 Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

Lock screen work now but only if I use a att theme. Something different I found that on the app screen when yiu hit the blackberry button then options it has a different layout now. Also dropbox will not work for me and the phone is sluggish

i dont understand y every1 was *itching and complaining about getting about a os6 leak and now when u get one ur *itching and complaining about its bugs. of course its gunna have bugs dummies its a LEAK. Imagine if full 6.0.0.197 leaked? yall would be switching to android by now. its a damn early version. best builds are seen around .500+ just wait for next leak and stop pms'ing

Posted by StormJH1 Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

I've used leaked versions of OS5.0 and never encountered anything near the problems there are with the OS6.0 leak. A "bug" is something like "Hey, it doesn't lock properly in this mode", or "Hey, when I type in a phone number, I have to scroll up to the number I just typed before I can dial it". In other words: a minor inconvenience with a feasible workaround.

Having your phone crash three times a day (at least) due to application errors is not a "bug". Being unable to load webpages (even mobile sites) on a regular basis is not a bug. These are signs of an incomplete OS that is only quasi-functional. I basically consider it a tech demo for what would be possible if they could figure out how to get it to work on the device. The things happening in the OS6 leak should NEVER happen on a cell phone, and they didn't happen in the vast majority of OS5 leaks.

...and there is no way that I'm going backwards. In fact, I just install BB 9000 Ring tones, etc. To me, OS6 has me feeling as if I went and bought a new phone,...correct, make that a new Blackberry! My phone has reacted quite well to the OS6 upgrade,..in fact, I even use my Media Player more,..and Tunein radio,...and lets not talk about Universal Search! It's awesome! Plus, I can set the Call Log to sort the calls by "date",...not sure if I could have done this with OS5, but it was an easy find in OS6.

...There is no way I'm going back to OS5,...in fact, I'd get a 9780 before I go backwards! I mean, who wants a Pentium IV nowadays?

Hey all 9700 users if you go to Duane Reade and show them your 9700 you will get for free 7 bibs 1 box of pampers and 1GL of milk so you can all stop crying about something that you ALL WANTED so badly and still crying about it I mean damn stop the Bull S**T

Posted by StormJH1 Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

Whatever. You seem to have enough time to post on threads about 9700 operating systems, or you would otherwise ignore us. RIM basically told everyone from the start that this OS would work on 9700. The 9700 is still probably (or easily) the device that most people on this site use. We got an OS6 leak, and it doesn't really work. Isn't this the place to complain about something like that? Where would you prefer us to vent, Deadspin?

Posted by Rockdog97 Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

I for one find the lack of punctuation in some of these threads quite comical. Carry on...oh, and I'll wait until my wife gets her 9800 and play around with OS6 before installing it on my 9700.

Posted by dbowe4415 Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

I'll be getting this OS for sure; I have no intention of downloading a leaked version of OS 6 on my 9700. Even if OS 6 releases for the 9700 next year, I'll be content with 5.0 for now...it's still a solid OS.

Posted by Snipes Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

When will this be available OTA?

Posted by Hennessy62082 Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

I'm running leaked OS6 and it's awesome! I think I'll stick with OS6...thanks though AT&T.

Posted by HimeLowpez Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

will this official os from att also work on tmobile 9700??....

ps as far as the os 6 leak, some folks need to take it easy, we all waited for os6 to finally be leaked for our 9700, im extremely happy that it finally made its way to us, progress people! enough with people complaining about all the "bugs" and how theyre going back os5 and yada yada yada...

Posted by jimscapelle Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

i thought YESSSS finally OS 6, but i've installed it and it workes not good, i go back to the Official 5.0.0.979. I will wait for the Official OS 6.

Posted by beemir Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

i'd like to say that i was one of the guys waiting for OS 6 on my 9700, a long time ago. checking crackberry.com every day. that all stopped about 2-3 months ago. i gave up because i realized something. it occurred to me that maybe OS 6 won't be as great on the 9700, as it will be on say the torch or the 9780 that's about to come out (yeah i knew about this for sure).

suffice to say i wasn't the least bit disappointed when i put the leak on my phone. i wasn't expecting my phone to transform and cook for me or anything. i knew it would be sluggish at times and i knew it wouldn't be flawless. yet i'm still sticking to it. that's my personal choice.

i did however download this because if i'm downgrading, i'll be downgrading to an official version of build 979 and not a leak.

people, set your expectations to a realistic level next time.

Posted by soo007 Thursday, Nov 04, 2010 567 days ago

PROS.
The new update (from .714) leaves frees up about 6Mb of memory and slightly better battery life.

CONS
Be careful when pairing 2 Blackberries together via Bluetooth. Once paired either Blackberry will call the most recent phone number in you call history (most recent incoming or outgoing number).

I've experienced this 3 times already and I feel bad waking people up at 1230AM.

I also noticed slower Bluetooth performance.

If you want East Asian language support then download the OS for O2 UK.

If you have .714 keep it and wait for OS6.

For those that with the leaked OS6, just wondering how much free app memory is available on the 9700 after OS6 install? Thanks

Posted by mommytina Friday, Nov 05, 2010 567 days ago

I like so many others have been patiently waiting for the release of os 6, but the last time I installed a "leaked" version of anything it bricked my berry. With that being said I went for the official 5.0.979 dl w/ att. The only thing that I didn't like is having to reinstall the latest bbm. It wasn't that big of a deal... just my personal thoughts. Thanks.

plz someone help me.. how can i downgrade to this OS, from my leaked OS6 ?

Posted by Teddyp6 Friday, Nov 05, 2010 566 days ago

This build drains my battery like no other. I was usually around 80% at mid day and with build I was at 58%. I will be downgrading back to .602 when I get home.

Posted by RHaroLA Friday, Nov 05, 2010 566 days ago

updated to this last night.

so far i've noticed a bit more smoothness through menus and such.

but i have also noticed one annoying problem..

my custom contact alerts stopped working.
anyone else experiencing this? any fix?

also i've noticed that putting my bb in standby mode using the mute key no longer works. not a big deal as lock mode still works but still a feature that stopped working.

Posted by chase9 Saturday, Nov 06, 2010 566 days ago

Had major problems with this update (I consider myself very tech savy).. So I downloaded; Then ran this update before I went to sleep last night.. Woke up this morning some 7 hours later and it was still at 1%. Played with it a bit to no response; did alt+del+Shift, a couple times and it alternated between white screen and error msg.. Had to go to my friends house (with a windows comp) in order to wipe it and re-install my software.

And O yeah as of now my blackberry wont restore via Mac Desktop Manager. It gets half the job done at most, then stops because it can't load a messages database.. SO right now i'm Dealing with a half-phone. Good thing I use Google Sync. Will be going back to said friends place tomorrow and wiping and will try to backup from files saved here on windows desktop manager.

Anybody else have problems?

realllllly don't understand why everyone is talking about os 6 when this is an os 5.0.0.979 thread...

Posted by djmm2 Sunday, Nov 07, 2010 564 days ago

I loaded new OS. I don't see any real difference except I no longer can use the left or right convenience keys to lock keyboard, have to push top button which is inconvenient with ifrogz protective case on it. Using "Todayplus 9700" by Berrygoodtheme, looks and works great.

I'm starting to believe after reading this that most of you didn't follow directions towards installing your leak OS

Posted by dberricrz Thursday, Nov 11, 2010 560 days ago

Yeah OS6 is smooth, BUT a HUGE memory hog!!! I have never seen the hour glass/clock so many times!!! My bold is slow. And my address book got messed up! My call log shows all contacts names but not all contacts showing in my address book(and i did a backup &restore) Sooo i'm dwn grading till the offical os6 release...or unless someone has a TMobile address book fix???
